וַתֹּאמֶר לֵאָה זְבָדַנִי אֱלֹהִים׀ אֹתִי זֵבֶד טוֹב הַפַּעַם יִזְבְּלֵנִי אִישִׁי כִּֽי-יָלַדְתִּי לוֹ שִׁשָּׁה בָנִים וַתִּקְרָא אֶת-שְׁמוֹ זְבֻלֽוּן׃
And Leah said, God hath endued me with a good dowry; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have born him six sons: and she called his name Zebulun.
וַיִּפְרֹץ הָאִישׁ מְאֹד מְאֹד וַֽיְהִי-לוֹ צֹאן רַבּוֹת וּשְׁפָחוֹת וַֽעֲבָדִים וּגְמַלִּים וַֽחֲמֹרִֽים׃
And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses.
וְהַמִּצְפָּה אֲשֶׁר אָמַר יִצֶף יְהוָה בֵּינִי וּבֵינֶךָ כִּי נִסָּתֵר אִישׁ מֵֽרֵעֵֽהוּ׃
And Mizpah; for he said, The LORD watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another.
אִם-תְּעַנֶּה אֶת-בְּנֹתַי וְאִם-תִּקַּח נָשִׁים עַל-בְּנֹתַי אֵין אִישׁ עִמָּנוּ רְאֵה אֱלֹהִים עֵד בֵּינִי וּבֵינֶֽךָ׃
If thou shalt afflict my daughters, or if thou shalt take other wives beside my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness betwixt me and thee.
וַיָּשֻׁבוּ הַמַּלְאָכִים אֶֽל-יַעֲקֹב לֵאמֹר בָּאנוּ אֶל-אָחִיךָ אֶל-עֵשָׂו וְגַם הֹלֵךְ לִקְרָֽאתְךָ וְאַרְבַּע-מֵאוֹת אִישׁ עִמּֽוֹ׃
And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.
וַיִּוָּתֵר יַֽעֲקֹב לְבַדּוֹ וַיֵּֽאָבֵק אִישׁ עִמּוֹ עַד עֲלוֹת הַשָּֽׁחַר׃
And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.
וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא יַֽעֲקֹב יֵֽאָמֵר עוֹד שִׁמְךָ כִּי אִם-יִשְׂרָאֵל כִּֽי-שָׂרִיתָ עִם-אֱלֹהִים וְעִם-אֲנָשִׁים וַתּוּכָֽל׃
And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
וַיִּשָּׂא יַֽעֲקֹב עֵינָיו וַיַּרְא וְהִנֵּה עֵשָׂו בָּא וְעִמּוֹ אַרְבַּע מֵאוֹת אִישׁ וַיַּחַץ אֶת-הַיְלָדִים עַל-לֵאָה וְעַל-רָחֵל וְעַל שְׁתֵּי הַשְּׁפָחֽוֹת׃
And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.
וּבְנֵי יַֽעֲקֹב בָּאוּ מִן-הַשָּׂדֶה כְּשָׁמְעָם וַיִּֽתְעַצְּבוּ הָֽאֲנָשִׁים וַיִּחַר לָהֶם מְאֹד כִּֽי-נְבָלָה עָשָׂה בְיִשְׂרָאֵל לִשְׁכַּב אֶת-בַּֽת-יַעֲקֹב וְכֵן לֹא יֵֽעָשֶֽׂה׃
And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob's daughter; which thing ought not to be done.
וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ אֲלֵיהֶם לֹא נוּכַל לַֽעֲשׂוֹת הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה לָתֵת אֶת-אֲחֹתֵנוּ לְאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר-לוֹ עָרְלָה כִּֽי-חֶרְפָּה הִוא לָֽנוּ׃
And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us:
וַיָּבֹא חֲמוֹר וּשְׁכֶם בְּנוֹ אֶל-שַׁעַר עִירָם וַֽיְדַבְּרוּ אֶל-אַנְשֵׁי עִירָם לֵאמֹֽר׃
And Hamor and Shechem his son came unto the gate of their city, and communed with the men of their city, saying,
הָֽאֲנָשִׁים הָאֵלֶּה שְֽׁלֵמִים הֵם אִתָּנוּ וְיֵֽשְׁבוּ בָאָרֶץ וְיִסְחֲרוּ אֹתָהּ וְהָאָרֶץ הִנֵּה רַֽחֲבַת-יָדַיִם לִפְנֵיהֶם אֶת-בְּנֹתָם נִקַּֽח-לָנוּ לְנָשִׁים וְאֶת-בְּנֹתֵינוּ נִתֵּן לָהֶֽם׃
These men are peaceable with us; therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade therein; for the land, behold, it is large enough for them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters.
אַךְ-בְּזֹאת יֵאֹתוּ לָנוּ הָֽאֲנָשִׁים לָשֶׁבֶת אִתָּנוּ לִֽהְיוֹת לְעַם אֶחָד בְּהִמּוֹל לָנוּ כָּל-זָכָר כַּֽאֲשֶׁר הֵם נִמֹּלִֽים׃
Only herein will the men consent unto us for to dwell with us, to be one people, if every male among us be circumcised, as they are circumcised.
וַיְהִי בַיּוֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁי בִּֽהְיוֹתָם כֹּֽאֲבִים וַיִּקְחוּ שְׁנֵֽי-בְנֵי-יַעֲקֹב שִׁמְעוֹן וְלֵוִי אֲחֵי דִינָה אִישׁ חַרְבּוֹ וַיָּבֹאוּ עַל-הָעִיר בֶּטַח וַיַּֽהַרְגוּ כָּל-זָכָֽר׃
And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city boldly, and slew all the males.
וַיִּמְצָאֵהוּ אִישׁ וְהִנֵּה תֹעֶה בַּשָּׂדֶה וַיִּשְׁאָלֵהוּ הָאִישׁ לֵאמֹר מַה-תְּבַקֵּֽשׁ׃
And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?
וַיֹּאמֶר הָאִישׁ נָֽסְעוּ מִזֶּה כִּי שָׁמַעְתִּי אֹֽמְרִים נֵֽלְכָה דֹּתָיְנָה וַיֵּלֶךְ יוֹסֵף אַחַר אֶחָיו וַיִּמְצָאֵם בְּדֹתָֽן׃
And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.
וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ אִישׁ אֶל-אָחִיו הִנֵּה בַּעַל הַֽחֲלֹמוֹת הַלָּזֶה בָּֽא׃
And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh.
וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ אֲנָשִׁים מִדְיָנִים סֹֽחֲרִים וַֽיִּמְשְׁכוּ וַיַּֽעֲלוּ אֶת-יוֹסֵף מִן-הַבּוֹר וַיִּמְכְּרוּ אֶת-יוֹסֵף לַיִּשְׁמְעֵאלִים בְּעֶשְׂרִים כָּסֶף וַיָּבִיאוּ אֶת-יוֹסֵף מִצְרָֽיְמָה׃
Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.
וַֽיְהִי בָּעֵת הַהִוא וַיֵּרֶד יְהוּדָה מֵאֵת אֶחָיו וַיֵּט עַד-אִישׁ עֲדֻלָּמִי וּשְׁמוֹ חִירָֽה׃
And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.
וַיַּרְא-שָׁם יְהוּדָה בַּת-אִישׁ כְּנַֽעֲנִי וּשְׁמוֹ שׁוּעַ וַיִּקָּחֶהָ וַיָּבֹא אֵלֶֽיהָ׃
And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.
וַיִּשְׁאַל אֶת-אַנְשֵׁי מְקֹמָהּ לֵאמֹר אַיֵּה הַקְּדֵשָׁה הִוא בָֽעֵינַיִם עַל-הַדָּרֶךְ וַיֹּאמְרוּ לֹֽא-הָיְתָה בָזֶה קְדֵשָֽׁה׃
Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side? And they said, There was no harlot in this place.
וַיָּשָׁב אֶל-יְהוּדָה וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא מְצָאתִיהָ וְגַם אַנְשֵׁי הַמָּקוֹם אָֽמְרוּ לֹֽא-הָיְתָה בָזֶה קְדֵשָֽׁה׃
And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, that there was no harlot in this place.
הִוא מוּצֵאת וְהִיא שָֽׁלְחָה אֶל-חָמִיהָ לֵאמֹר לְאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר-אֵלֶּה לּוֹ אָֽנֹכִי הָרָה וַתֹּאמֶר הַכֶּר-נָא לְמִי הַחֹתֶמֶת וְהַפְּתִילִים וְהַמַּטֶּה הָאֵֽלֶּה׃
When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff.
וְיוֹסֵף הוּרַד מִצְרָיְמָה וַיִּקְנֵהוּ פּֽוֹטִיפַר סְרִיס פַּרְעֹה שַׂר הַטַּבָּחִים אִישׁ מִצְרִי מִיַּד הַיִּשְׁמְעֵאלִים אֲשֶׁר הֽוֹרִדֻהוּ שָֽׁמָּה׃
And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither.
וַיְהִי יְהוָה אֶת-יוֹסֵף וַיְהִי אִישׁ מַצְלִיחַ וַיְהִי בְּבֵית אֲדֹנָיו הַמִּצְרִֽי׃
And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
וַֽיְהִי כְּהַיּוֹם הַזֶּה וַיָּבֹא הַבַּיְתָה לַֽעֲשׂוֹת מְלַאכְתּוֹ וְאֵין אִישׁ מֵֽאַנְשֵׁי הַבַּיִת שָׁם בַּבָּֽיִת׃
And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.
וַתִּקְרָא לְאַנְשֵׁי בֵיתָהּ וַתֹּאמֶר לָהֶם לֵאמֹר רְאוּ הֵבִיא לָנוּ אִישׁ עִבְרִי לְצַחֶק בָּנוּ בָּא אֵלַי לִשְׁכַּב עִמִּי וָֽאֶקְרָא בְּקוֹל גָּדֽוֹל׃
That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:
וַיַּֽחַלְמוּ חֲלוֹם שְׁנֵיהֶם אִישׁ חֲלֹמוֹ בְּלַיְלָה אֶחָד אִישׁ כְּפִתְרוֹן חֲלֹמוֹ הַמַּשְׁקֶה וְהָֽאֹפֶה אֲשֶׁר לְמֶלֶךְ מִצְרַיִם אֲשֶׁר אֲסוּרִים בְּבֵית הַסֹּֽהַר׃
And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison.
וַנַּֽחַלְמָה חֲלוֹם בְּלַיְלָה אֶחָד אֲנִי וָהוּא אִישׁ כְּפִתְרוֹן חֲלֹמוֹ חָלָֽמְנוּ׃
And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.
וְשָׁם אִתָּנוּ נַעַר עִבְרִי עֶבֶד לְשַׂר הַטַּבָּחִים וַנְּסַפֶּר-לוֹ וַיִּפְתָּר-לָנוּ אֶת-חֲלֹֽמֹתֵינוּ אִישׁ כַּֽחֲלֹמוֹ פָּתָֽר׃
And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.
וְעַתָּה יֵרֶא פַרְעֹה אִישׁ נָבוֹן וְחָכָם וִֽישִׁיתֵהוּ עַל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃
Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.
וַיֹּאמֶר פַּרְעֹה אֶל-עֲבָדָיו הֲנִמְצָא כָזֶה אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר רוּחַ אֱלֹהִים בּֽוֹ׃
And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?
וַיֹּאמֶר פַּרְעֹה אֶל-יוֹסֵף אֲנִי פַרְעֹה וּבִלְעָדֶיךָ לֹֽא-יָרִים אִישׁ אֶת-יָדוֹ וְאֶת-רַגְלוֹ בְּכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.
כֻּלָּנוּ בְּנֵי אִישׁ-אֶחָד נָחְנוּ כֵּנִים אֲנַחְנוּ לֹֽא-הָיוּ עֲבָדֶיךָ מְרַגְּלִֽים׃
We are all one man's sons; we are true men, thy servants are no spies.
וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר עֲבָדֶיךָ אַחִים׀ אֲנַחְנוּ בְּנֵי אִישׁ-אֶחָד בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנָעַן וְהִנֵּה הַקָּטֹן אֶת-אָבִינוּ הַיּוֹם וְהָֽאֶחָד אֵינֶֽנּוּ׃
And they said, Thy servants are twelve brethren, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and, behold, the youngest is this day with our father, and one is not.
וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ אִישׁ אֶל-אָחִיו אֲבָל אֲשֵׁמִים׀ אֲנַחְנוּ עַל-אָחִינוּ אֲשֶׁר רָאִינוּ צָרַת נַפְשׁוֹ בְּהִתְחַֽנְנוֹ אֵלֵינוּ וְלֹא שָׁמָעְנוּ עַל-כֵּן בָּאָה אֵלֵינוּ הַצָּרָה הַזֹּֽאת׃
And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.
וַיְצַו יוֹסֵף וַיְמַלְאוּ אֶת-כְּלֵיהֶם בָּר וּלְהָשִׁיב כַּסְפֵּיהֶם אִישׁ אֶל-שַׂקּוֹ וְלָתֵת לָהֶם צֵדָה לַדָּרֶךְ וַיַּעַשׂ לָהֶם כֵּֽן׃
Then Joseph commanded to fill their sacks with corn, and to restore every man's money into his sack, and to give them provision for the way: and thus did he unto them.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל-אֶחָיו הוּשַׁב כַּסְפִּי וְגַם הִנֵּה בְאַמְתַּחְתִּי וַיֵּצֵא לִבָּם וַיֶּֽחֶרְדוּ אִישׁ אֶל-אָחִיו לֵאמֹר מַה-זֹּאת עָשָׂה אֱלֹהִים לָֽנוּ׃
And he said unto his brethren, My money is restored; and, lo, it is even in my sack: and their heart failed them, and they were afraid, saying one to another, What is this that God hath done unto us?
דִּבֶּר הָאִישׁ אֲדֹנֵי הָאָרֶץ אִתָּנוּ קָשׁוֹת וַיִּתֵּן אֹתָנוּ כִּֽמְרַגְּלִים אֶת-הָאָֽרֶץ׃
The man, who is the lord of the land, spake roughly to us, and took us for spies of the country.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלֵינוּ הָאִישׁ אֲדֹנֵי הָאָרֶץ בְּזֹאת אֵדַע כִּי כֵנִים אַתֶּם אֲחִיכֶם הָֽאֶחָד הַנִּיחוּ אִתִּי וְאֶת-רַֽעֲבוֹן בָּֽתֵּיכֶם קְחוּ וָלֵֽכוּ׃
And the man, the lord of the country, said unto us, Hereby shall I know that ye are true men; leave one of your brethren here with me, and take food for the famine of your households, and be gone:
וַיְהִי הֵם מְרִיקִים שַׂקֵּיהֶם וְהִנֵּה-אִישׁ צְרוֹר-כַּסְפּוֹ בְּשַׂקּוֹ וַיִּרְאוּ אֶת-צְרֹרוֹת כַּסְפֵּיהֶם הֵמָּה וַֽאֲבִיהֶם וַיִּירָֽאוּ׃
And it came to pass as they emptied their sacks, that, behold, every man's bundle of money was in his sack: and when both they and their father saw the bundles of money, they were afraid.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו יְהוּדָה לֵאמֹר הָעֵד הֵעִד בָּנוּ הָאִישׁ לֵאמֹר לֹֽא-תִרְאוּ פָנַי בִּלְתִּי אֲחִיכֶם אִתְּכֶֽם׃
And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.
וְאִם-אֵֽינְךָ מְשַׁלֵּחַ לֹא נֵרֵד כִּֽי-הָאִישׁ אָמַר אֵלֵינוּ לֹֽא-תִרְאוּ פָנַי בִּלְתִּי אֲחִיכֶם אִתְּכֶֽם׃
But if thou wilt not send him, we will not go down: for the man said unto us, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.
וַיֹּאמֶר יִשְׂרָאֵל לָמָה הֲרֵֽעֹתֶם לִי לְהַגִּיד לָאִישׁ הַעוֹד לָכֶם אָֽח׃
And Israel said, Wherefore dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother?
וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ שָׁאוֹל שָֽׁאַל-הָאִישׁ לָנוּ וּלְמֽוֹלַדְתֵּנוּ לֵאמֹר הַעוֹד אֲבִיכֶם חַי הֲיֵשׁ לָכֶם אָח וַנַגֶּד-לוֹ עַל-פִּי הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה הֲיָדוֹעַ נֵדַע כִּי יֹאמַר הוֹרִידוּ אֶת-אֲחִיכֶֽם׃
And they said, The man asked us straitly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have ye another brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down?
וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲבִיהֶם אִם-כֵּן׀ אֵפוֹא זֹאת עֲשׂוּ קְחוּ מִזִּמְרַת הָאָרֶץ בִּכְלֵיכֶם וְהוֹרִידוּ לָאִישׁ מִנְחָה מְעַט צֳרִי וּמְעַט דְּבַשׁ נְכֹאת וָלֹט בָּטְנִים וּשְׁקֵדִֽים׃
And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:
וְאֶת-אֲחִיכֶם קָחוּ וְקוּמוּ שׁוּבוּ אֶל-הָאִֽישׁ׃
Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man:
וְאֵל שַׁדַּי יִתֵּן לָכֶם רַֽחֲמִים לִפְנֵי הָאִישׁ וְשִׁלַּח לָכֶם אֶת-אֲחִיכֶם אַחֵר וְאֶת-בִּנְיָמִין וַֽאֲנִי כַּֽאֲשֶׁר שָׁכֹלְתִּי שָׁכָֽלְתִּי׃
And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.
וַיִּקְחוּ הָֽאֲנָשִׁים אֶת-הַמִּנְחָה הַזֹּאת וּמִשְׁנֶה-כֶּסֶף לָֽקְחוּ בְיָדָם וְאֶת-בִּנְיָמִן וַיָּקֻמוּ וַיֵּֽרְדוּ מִצְרַיִם וַיַּֽעַמְדוּ לִפְנֵי יוֹסֵֽף׃
And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.
וַיַּרְא יוֹסֵף אִתָּם אֶת-בִּנְיָמִין וַיֹּאמֶר לַֽאֲשֶׁר עַל-בֵּיתוֹ הָבֵא אֶת-הָֽאֲנָשִׁים הַבָּיְתָה וּטְבֹחַ טֶבַח וְהָכֵן כִּי אִתִּי יֹֽאכְלוּ הָֽאֲנָשִׁים בַּֽצָּהֳרָֽיִם׃
And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, Bring these men home, and slay, and make ready; for these men shall dine with me at noon.
וַיַּעַשׂ הָאִישׁ כַּֽאֲשֶׁר אָמַר יוֹסֵף וַיָּבֵא הָאִישׁ אֶת-הָֽאֲנָשִׁים בֵּיתָה יוֹסֵֽף׃
And the man did as Joseph bade; and the man brought the men into Joseph's house.
וַיִּֽירְאוּ הָֽאֲנָשִׁים כִּי הֽוּבְאוּ בֵּית יוֹסֵף וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ עַל-דְּבַר הַכֶּסֶף הַשָּׁב בְּאַמְתְּחֹתֵינוּ בַּתְּחִלָּה אֲנַחְנוּ מֽוּבָאִים לְהִתְגֹּלֵל עָלֵינוּ וּלְהִתְנַפֵּל עָלֵינוּ וְלָקַחַת אֹתָנוּ לַֽעֲבָדִים וְאֶת-חֲמֹרֵֽינוּ׃
And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph's house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.
וַֽיִּגְּשׁוּ אֶל-הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר עַל-בֵּית יוֹסֵף וַיְדַבְּרוּ אֵלָיו פֶּתַח הַבָּֽיִת׃
And they came near to the steward of Joseph's house, and they communed with him at the door of the house,
וַיְהִי כִּי-בָאנוּ אֶל-הַמָּלוֹן וַֽנִּפְתְּחָה אֶת-אַמְתְּחֹתֵינוּ וְהִנֵּה כֶֽסֶף-אִישׁ בְּפִי אַמְתַּחְתּוֹ כַּסְפֵּנוּ בְּמִשְׁקָלוֹ וַנָּשֶׁב אֹתוֹ בְּיָדֵֽנוּ׃
And it came to pass, when we came to the inn, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, every man's money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight: and we have brought it again in our hand.
וַיָּבֵא הָאִישׁ אֶת-הָֽאֲנָשִׁים בֵּיתָה יוֹסֵף וַיִּתֶּן-מַיִם וַיִּרְחֲצוּ רַגְלֵיהֶם וַיִּתֵּן מִסְפּוֹא לַחֲמֹֽרֵיהֶֽם׃
And the man brought the men into Joseph's house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender.
וַיֵּֽשְׁבוּ לְפָנָיו הַבְּכֹר כִּבְכֹרָתוֹ וְהַצָּעִיר כִּצְעִֽרָתוֹ וַיִּתְמְהוּ הָֽאֲנָשִׁים אִישׁ אֶל-רֵעֵֽהוּ׃
And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth: and the men marvelled one at another.
וַיְצַו אֶת-אֲשֶׁר עַל-בֵּיתוֹ לֵאמֹר מַלֵּא אֶת-אַמְתְּחֹת הָֽאֲנָשִׁים אֹכֶל כַּֽאֲשֶׁר יֽוּכְלוּן שְׂאֵת וְשִׂים כֶּֽסֶף-אִישׁ בְּפִי אַמְתַּחְתּֽוֹ׃
And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men's sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man's money in his sack's mouth.
הַבֹּקֶר אוֹר וְהָֽאֲנָשִׁים שֻׁלְּחוּ הֵמָּה וַחֲמֹֽרֵיהֶֽם׃
As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their asses.
הֵם יָֽצְאוּ אֶת-הָעִיר לֹא הִרְחִיקוּ וְיוֹסֵף אָמַר לַֽאֲשֶׁר עַל-בֵּיתוֹ קוּם רְדֹף אַֽחֲרֵי הָֽאֲנָשִׁים וְהִשַּׂגְתָּם וְאָֽמַרְתָּ אֲלֵהֶם לָמָּה שִׁלַּמְתֶּם רָעָה תַּחַת טוֹבָֽה׃
And when they were gone out of the city, and not yet far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Up, follow after the men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good?
וַֽיְמַהֲרוּ וַיּוֹרִדוּ אִישׁ אֶת-אַמְתַּחְתּוֹ אָרְצָה וַֽיִּפְתְּחוּ אִישׁ אַמְתַּחְתּֽוֹ׃
Then they speedily took down every man his sack to the ground, and opened every man his sack.
וַֽיִּקְרְעוּ שִׂמְלֹתָם וַֽיַּעֲמֹס אִישׁ עַל-חֲמֹרוֹ וַיָּשֻׁבוּ הָעִֽירָה׃
Then they rent their clothes, and laded every man his ass, and returned to the city.
וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם יוֹסֵף מָֽה-הַמַּעֲשֶׂה הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר עֲשִׂיתֶם הֲלוֹא יְדַעְתֶּם כִּֽי-נַחֵשׁ יְנַחֵשׁ אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר כָּמֹֽנִי׃
And Joseph said unto them, What deed is this that ye have done? wot ye not that such a man as I can certainly divine?
וַיֹּאמֶר חָלִילָה לִּי מֵֽעֲשׂוֹת זֹאת הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר נִמְצָא הַגָּבִיעַ בְּיָדוֹ הוּא יִֽהְיֶה-לִּי עָבֶד וְאַתֶּם עֲלוּ לְשָׁלוֹם אֶל-אֲבִיכֶֽם׃
And he said, God forbid that I should do so: but the man in whose hand the cup is found, he shall be my servant; and as for you, get you up in peace unto your father.
וַנֹּאמֶר לֹא נוּכַל לָרֶדֶת אִם-יֵשׁ אָחִינוּ הַקָּטֹן אִתָּנוּ וְיָרַדְנוּ כִּי-לֹא נוּכַל לִרְאוֹת פְּנֵי הָאִישׁ וְאָחִינוּ הַקָּטֹן אֵינֶנּוּ אִתָּֽנוּ׃
And we said, We cannot go down: if our youngest brother be with us, then will we go down: for we may not see the man's face, except our youngest brother be with us.
וְלֹֽא-יָכֹל יוֹסֵף לְהִתְאַפֵּק לְכֹל הַנִּצָּבִים עָלָיו וַיִּקְרָא הוֹצִיאוּ כָל-אִישׁ מֵֽעָלָי וְלֹא-עָמַד אִישׁ אִתּוֹ בְּהִתְוַדַּע יוֹסֵף אֶל-אֶחָֽיו׃
Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by him; and he cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren.
לְכֻלָּם נָתַן לָאִישׁ חֲלִפוֹת שְׂמָלֹת וּלְבִנְיָמִן נָתַן שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת כֶּסֶף וְחָמֵשׁ חֲלִפֹת שְׂמָלֹֽת׃
To all of them he gave each man changes of raiment; but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver, and five changes of raiment.
וְהָֽאֲנָשִׁים רֹעֵי צֹאן כִּֽי-אַנְשֵׁי מִקְנֶה הָיוּ וְצֹאנָם וּבְקָרָם וְכָל-אֲשֶׁר לָהֶם הֵבִֽיאוּ׃
And the men are shepherds, for their trade hath been to feed cattle; and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.
וַֽאֲמַרְתֶּם אַנְשֵׁי מִקְנֶה הָיוּ עֲבָדֶיךָ מִנְּעוּרֵינוּ וְעַד-עַתָּה גַּם-אֲנַחְנוּ גַּם-אֲבֹתֵינוּ בַּֽעֲבוּר תֵּֽשְׁבוּ בְּאֶרֶץ גֹּשֶׁן כִּֽי-תוֹעֲבַת מִצְרַיִם כָּל-רֹעֵה צֹֽאן׃
That ye shall say, Thy servants' trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians.
וּמִקְצֵה אֶחָיו לָקַח חֲמִשָּׁה אֲנָשִׁים וַיַּצִּגֵם לִפְנֵי פַרְעֹֽה׃
And he took some of his brethren, even five men, and presented them unto Pharaoh.
אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם לְפָנֶיךָ הִוא בְּמֵיטַב הָאָרֶץ הוֹשֵׁב אֶת-אָבִיךָ וְאֶת-אַחֶיךָ יֵֽשְׁבוּ בְּאֶרֶץ גֹּשֶׁן וְאִם-יָדַעְתָּ וְיֶשׁ-בָּם אַנְשֵׁי-חַיִל וְשַׂמְתָּם שָׂרֵי מִקְנֶה עַל-אֲשֶׁר-לִֽי׃
The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.
וַיִּקֶן יוֹסֵף אֶת-כָּל-אַדְמַת מִצְרַיִם לְפַרְעֹה כִּֽי-מָכְרוּ מִצְרַיִם אִישׁ שָׂדֵהוּ כִּֽי-חָזַק עֲלֵהֶם הָֽרָעָב וַתְּהִי הָאָרֶץ לְפַרְעֹֽה׃
And Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine prevailed over them: so the land became Pharaoh's.
בְּסֹדָם אַל-תָּבֹא נַפְשִׁי בִּקְהָלָם אַל-תֵּחַד כְּבֹדִי כִּי בְאַפָּם הָרְגוּ אִישׁ וּבִרְצֹנָם עִקְּרוּ-שֽׁוֹר׃
O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their selfwill they digged down a wall.
וַֽיְמָרֲרֻהוּ וָרֹבּוּ וַֽיִּשְׂטְמֻהוּ בַּֽעֲלֵי חִצִּֽים׃
The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him:
כָּל-אֵלֶּה שִׁבְטֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר וְזֹאת אֲשֶׁר-דִּבֶּר לָהֶם אֲבִיהֶם וַיְבָרֶךְ אוֹתָם אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר כְּבִרְכָתוֹ בֵּרַךְ אֹתָֽם׃
All these are the twelve tribes of Israel: and this is it that their father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them.
וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמוֹת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הַבָּאִים מִצְרָיְמָה אֵת יַֽעֲקֹב אִישׁ וּבֵיתוֹ בָּֽאוּ׃
Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob.
וַיֵּלֶךְ אִישׁ מִבֵּית לֵוִי וַיִּקַּח אֶת-בַּת-לֵוִֽי׃
And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.
וַיְהִי׀ בַּיָּמִים הָהֵם וַיִּגְדַּל מֹשֶׁה וַיֵּצֵא אֶל-אֶחָיו וַיַּרְא בְּסִבְלֹתָם וַיַּרְא אִישׁ מִצְרִי מַכֶּה אִישׁ-עִבְרִי מֵֽאֶחָֽיו׃
And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.
וַיִּפֶן כֹּה וָכֹה וַיַּרְא כִּי אֵין אִישׁ וַיַּךְ אֶת-הַמִּצְרִי וַֽיִּטְמְנֵהוּ בַּחֽוֹל׃
And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.
וַיֵּצֵא בַּיּוֹם הַשֵּׁנִי וְהִנֵּה שְׁנֵֽי-אֲנָשִׁים עִבְרִים נִצִּים וַיֹּאמֶר לָֽרָשָׁע לָמָּה תַכֶּה רֵעֶֽךָ׃
And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?
וַיֹּאמֶר מִי שָֽׂמְךָ לְאִישׁ שַׂר וְשֹׁפֵט עָלֵינוּ הַלְהָרְגֵנִי אַתָּה אֹמֵר כַּֽאֲשֶׁר הָרַגְתָּ אֶת-הַמִּצְרִי וַיִּירָא מֹשֶׁה וַיֹּאמַר אָכֵן נוֹדַע הַדָּבָֽר׃
And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.
וַתֹּאמַרְןָ אִישׁ מִצְרִי הִצִּילָנוּ מִיַּד הָֽרֹעִים וְגַם-דָּלֹה דָלָה לָנוּ וַיַּשְׁקְ אֶת-הַצֹּֽאן׃
And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל-בְּנֹתָיו וְאַיּוֹ לָמָּה זֶּה עֲזַבְתֶּן אֶת-הָאִישׁ קִרְאֶן לוֹ וְיֹאכַל לָֽחֶם׃
And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.
וַיּוֹאֶל מֹשֶׁה לָשֶׁבֶת אֶת-הָאִישׁ וַיִּתֵּן אֶת-צִפֹּרָה בִתּוֹ לְמֹשֶֽׁה׃
And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.
וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל-יְהוָה בִּי אֲדֹנָי לֹא אִישׁ דְּבָרִים אָנֹכִי גַּם מִתְּמוֹל גַּם מִשִּׁלְשֹׁם גַּם מֵאָז דַּבֶּרְךָ אֶל-עַבְדֶּךָ כִּי כְבַד-פֶּה וּכְבַד לָשׁוֹן אָנֹֽכִי׃
And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֵלָיו מִי שָׂם פֶּה לָֽאָדָם אוֹ מִֽי-יָשׂוּם אִלֵּם אוֹ חֵרֵשׁ אוֹ פִקֵּחַ אוֹ עִוֵּר הֲלֹא אָֽנֹכִי יְהוָֽה׃
And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה בְּמִדְיָן לֵךְ שֻׁב מִצְרָיִם כִּי-מֵתוּ כָּל-הָאֲנָשִׁים הַֽמְבַקְשִׁים אֶת-נַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃
And the LORD said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought thy life.
תִּכְבַּד הָֽעֲבֹדָה עַל-הָֽאֲנָשִׁים וְיַֽעֲשׂוּ-בָהּ וְאַל-יִשְׁעוּ בְּדִבְרֵי-שָֽׁקֶר׃
Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.
וַיַּשְׁלִיכוּ אִישׁ מַטֵּהוּ וַיִּֽהְיוּ לְתַנִּינִם וַיִּבְלַע מַטֵּֽה-אַהֲרֹן אֶת-מַטֹּתָֽם׃
For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods.
וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ-כֵן וַיֵּט אַֽהֲרֹן אֶת-יָדוֹ בְמַטֵּהוּ וַיַּךְ אֶת-עֲפַר הָאָרֶץ וַתְּהִי הַכִּנָּם בָּֽאָדָם וּבַבְּהֵמָה כָּל-עֲפַר הָאָרֶץ הָיָה כִנִּים בְּכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃
And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ-כֵן הַֽחַרְטֻמִּים בְּלָֽטֵיהֶם לְהוֹצִיא אֶת-הַכִּנִּים וְלֹא יָכֹלוּ וַתְּהִי הַכִּנָּם בָּֽאָדָם וּבַבְּהֵמָֽה׃
And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast.
וְהָיָה לְאָבָק עַל כָּל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם וְהָיָה עַל-הָֽאָדָם וְעַל-הַבְּהֵמָה לִשְׁחִין פֹּרֵחַ אֲבַעְבֻּעֹת בְּכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃
And it shall become small dust in all the land of Egypt, and shall be a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast, throughout all the land of Egypt.
וַיִּקְחוּ אֶת-פִּיחַ הַכִּבְשָׁן וַיַּֽעַמְדוּ לִפְנֵי פַרְעֹה וַיִּזְרֹק אֹתוֹ מֹשֶׁה הַשָּׁמָיְמָה וַיְהִי שְׁחִין אֲבַעְבֻּעֹת פֹּרֵחַ בָּֽאָדָם וּבַבְּהֵמָֽה׃
And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast.
וְעַתָּה שְׁלַח הָעֵז אֶֽת-מִקְנְךָ וְאֵת כָּל-אֲשֶׁר לְךָ בַּשָּׂדֶה כָּל-הָֽאָדָם וְהַבְּהֵמָה אֲשֶֽׁר-יִמָּצֵא בַשָּׂדֶה וְלֹא יֵֽאָסֵף הַבַּיְתָה וְיָרַד עֲלֵהֶם הַבָּרָד וָמֵֽתוּ׃
Send therefore now, and gather thy cattle, and all that thou hast in the field; for upon every man and beast which shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה נְטֵה אֶת-יָֽדְךָ עַל-הַשָּׁמַיִם וִיהִי בָרָד בְּכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם עַל-הָֽאָדָם וְעַל-הַבְּהֵמָה וְעַל כָּל-עֵשֶׂב הַשָּׂדֶה בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃
And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.
וַיַּךְ הַבָּרָד בְּכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם אֵת כָּל-אֲשֶׁר בַּשָּׂדֶה מֵֽאָדָם וְעַד-בְּהֵמָה וְאֵת כָּל-עֵשֶׂב הַשָּׂדֶה הִכָּה הַבָּרָד וְאֶת-כָּל-עֵץ הַשָּׂדֶה שִׁבֵּֽר׃
And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field.
וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ עַבְדֵי פַרְעֹה אֵלָיו עַד-מָתַי יִֽהְיֶה זֶה לָנוּ לְמוֹקֵשׁ שַׁלַּח אֶת-הָאֲנָשִׁים וְיַֽעַבְדוּ אֶת-יְהוָה אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶם הֲטֶרֶם תֵּדַע כִּי אָֽבְדָה מִצְרָֽיִם׃
And Pharaoh's servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?
לֹא כֵן לְכֽוּ-נָא הַגְּבָרִים וְעִבְדוּ אֶת-יְהוָה כִּי אֹתָהּ אַתֶּם מְבַקְשִׁים וַיְגָרֶשׁ אֹתָם מֵאֵת פְּנֵי פַרְעֹֽה׃
Not so: go now ye that are men, and serve the LORD; for that ye did desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence.
לֹֽא-רָאוּ אִישׁ אֶת-אָחִיו וְלֹא-קָמוּ אִישׁ מִתַּחְתָּיו שְׁלֹשֶׁת יָמִים וּֽלְכָל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הָיָה אוֹר בְּמֽוֹשְׁבֹתָֽם׃
They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.
דַּבֶּר-נָא בְּאָזְנֵי הָעָם וְיִשְׁאֲלוּ אִישׁ׀ מֵאֵת רֵעֵהוּ וְאִשָּׁה מֵאֵת רְעוּתָהּ כְּלֵי-כֶסֶף וּכְלֵי זָהָֽב׃
Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold.
וַיִּתֵּן יְהוָה אֶת-חֵן הָעָם בְּעֵינֵי מִצְרָיִם גַּם׀ הָאִישׁ מֹשֶׁה גָּדוֹל מְאֹד בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם בְּעֵינֵי עַבְדֵֽי-פַרְעֹה וּבְעֵינֵי הָעָֽם׃
And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh's servants, and in the sight of the people.
