And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
וַיִּקְרָא אֶת-שְׁמוֹ נֹחַ לֵאמֹר זֶה יְנַֽחֲמֵנוּ מִֽמַּעֲשֵׂנוּ וּמֵֽעִצְּבוֹן יָדֵינוּ מִן-הָאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר אֵֽרְרָהּ יְהוָֽה׃
And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed.
οἴδαμεν γὰρ ὅτι πᾶσα ἡ κτίσις συστενάζει καὶ συνωδίνει ἄχρι τοῦ νῦν·
For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
עַד-מָתַי תֶּאֱבַל הָאָרֶץ וְעֵשֶׂב כָּל-הַשָּׂדֶה יִיבָשׁ מֵרָעַת יֹֽשְׁבֵי-בָהּ סָפְתָה בְהֵמוֹת וָעוֹף כִּי אָמְרוּ לֹא יִרְאֶה אֶת-אַחֲרִיתֵֽנוּ׃
How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end.
וְהָאָרֶץ חָנְפָה תַּחַת יֹשְׁבֶיהָ כִּֽי-עָבְרוּ תוֹרֹת חָלְפוּ חֹק הֵפֵרוּ בְּרִית עוֹלָֽם׃
The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.
כִּי גַם-אַיֶּלֶת בַּשָּׂדֶה יָלְדָה וְעָזוֹב כִּי לֹֽא-הָיָה דֶּֽשֶׁא׃
Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass.
עַל-כֵּן׀ תֶּאֱבַל הָאָרֶץ וְאֻמְלַל כָּל-יוֹשֵׁב בָּהּ בְּחַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה וּבְעוֹף הַשָּׁמָיִם וְגַם-דְּגֵי הַיָּם יֵאָסֵֽפוּ׃
Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
הֲבֵל הֲבָלִים אָמַר קֹהֶלֶת הֲבֵל הֲבָלִים הַכֹּל הָֽבֶל׃
Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים לְנֹחַ קֵץ כָּל-בָּשָׂר בָּא לְפָנַי כִּֽי-מָלְאָה הָאָרֶץ חָמָס מִפְּנֵיהֶם וְהִנְנִי מַשְׁחִיתָם אֶת-הָאָֽרֶץ׃
And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
יִשְׁלָיוּ אֹֽהָלִים׀ לְשֹׁדְדִים וּֽבַטֻּחוֹת לְמַרְגִּיזֵי אֵל לַאֲשֶׁר הֵבִיא אֱלוֹהַּ בְּיָדֽוֹ׃
The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth abundantly.
מַה-נֶּאֶנְחָה בְהֵמָה נָבֹכוּ עֶדְרֵי בָקָר כִּי אֵין מִרְעֶה לָהֶם גַּם-עֶדְרֵי הַצֹּאן נֶאְשָֽׁמוּ׃
How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.
שָׂמָהּ לִשְׁמָמָה אָבְלָה עָלַי שְׁמֵמָה נָשַׁמָּה כָּל-הָאָרֶץ כִּי אֵין אִישׁ שָׂם עַל-לֵֽב׃
They have made it desolate, and being desolate it mourneth unto me; the whole land is made desolate, because no man layeth it to heart.
