וַיֹּצֵא אָסָא כֶּסֶף וְזָהָב מֵאֹֽצְרוֹת בֵּית יְהוָה וּבֵית הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיִּשְׁלַח אֶל-בֶּן-הֲדַד מֶלֶךְ אֲרָם הַיּוֹשֵׁב בְּדַרְמֶשֶׂק לֵאמֹֽר׃
Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the king's house, and sent to Ben-hadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,
וּבָעֵת הַהִיא בָּא חֲנָנִי הָֽרֹאֶה אֶל-אָסָא מֶלֶךְ יְהוּדָה וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו בְּהִשָּׁעֶנְךָ עַל-מֶלֶךְ אֲרָם וְלֹא נִשְׁעַנְתָּ עַל-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ עַל-כֵּן נִמְלַט חֵיל מֶֽלֶךְ-אֲרָם מִיָּדֶֽךָ׃
And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the LORD thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine hand.
וַיַּעַשׂ לוֹ צִדְקִיָּהוּ בֶֽן-כְּנַעֲנָה קַרְנֵי בַרְזֶל וַיֹּאמֶר כֹּֽה-אָמַר יְהוָה בְּאֵלֶּה תְּנַגַּח אֶת-אֲרָם עַד-כַּלּוֹתָֽם׃
And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah had made him horns of iron, and said, Thus saith the LORD, With these thou shalt push Syria until they be consumed.
וּמֶלֶךְ אֲרָם צִוָּה אֶת-שָׂרֵי הָרֶכֶב אֲשֶׁר-לוֹ לֵאמֹר לֹא תִּלָּחֲמוּ אֶת-הַקָּטֹן אֶת-הַגָּדוֹל כִּי אִֽם-אֶת-מֶלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל לְבַדּֽוֹ׃
Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of the chariots that were with him, saying, Fight ye not with small or great, save only with the king of Israel.
וַתַּעַל הַמִּלְחָמָה בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא וּמֶלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל הָיָה מַֽעֲמִיד בַּמֶּרְכָּבָה נֹכַח אֲרָם עַד-הָעָרֶב וַיָּמָת לְעֵת בּוֹא הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃
And the battle increased that day: howbeit the king of Israel stayed himself up in his chariot against the Syrians until the even: and about the time of the sun going down he died.
וַיָּבֹאוּ וַיַּגִּידוּ לִיהֽוֹשָׁפָט לֵאמֹר בָּא עָלֶיךָ הָמוֹן רָב מֵעֵבֶר לַיָּם מֵֽאֲרָם וְהִנָּם בְּחַֽצְצוֹן תָּמָר הִיא עֵין גֶּֽדִי׃
Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazon-tamar, which is En-gedi.
גַּם בַּֽעֲצָתָם הָלַךְ וַיֵּלֶךְ אֶת-יְהוֹרָם בֶּן-אַחְאָב מֶלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל לַמִּלְחָמָה עַל-חֲזָאֵל מֶֽלֶךְ-אֲרָם בְּרָמוֹת גִּלְעָד וַיַּכּוּ הָֽרַמִּים אֶת-יוֹרָֽם׃
He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth-gilead: and the Syrians smote Joram.
וַיָּשָׁב לְהִתְרַפֵּא בְיִזְרְעֶאל כִּי הַמַּכִּים אֲשֶׁר הִכֻּהוּ בָֽרָמָה בְּהִלָּחֲמוֹ אֶת-חֲזָהאֵל מֶלֶךְ אֲרָם וַֽעֲזַרְיָהוּ בֶן-יְהוֹרָם מֶלֶךְ יְהוּדָה יָרַד לִרְאוֹת אֶת-יְהוֹרָם בֶּן-אַחְאָב בְּיִזְרְעֶאל כִּֽי-חֹלֶה הֽוּא׃
And he returned to be healed in Jezreel because of the wounds which were given him at Ramah, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria. And Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab at Jezreel, because he was sick.
וַיְהִי׀ לִתְקוּפַת הַשָּׁנָה עָלָה עָלָיו חֵיל אֲרָם וַיָּבֹאוּ אֶל-יְהוּדָה וִירוּשָׁלִַם וַיַּשְׁחִיתוּ אֶת-כָּל-שָׂרֵי הָעָם מֵעָם וְכָל-שְׁלָלָם שִׁלְּחוּ לְמֶלֶךְ דַּרְמָֽשֶׂק׃
And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the host of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of Damascus.
כִּי בְמִצְעַר אֲנָשִׁים בָּאוּ׀ חֵיל אֲרָם וַֽיהוָה נָתַן בְּיָדָם חַיִל לָרֹב מְאֹד כִּי עָֽזְבוּ אֶת-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי אֲבֽוֹתֵיהֶם וְאֶת-יוֹאָשׁ עָשׂוּ שְׁפָטִֽים׃
For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash.
וַֽיִּתְּנֵהוּ יְהוָה אֱלֹהָיו בְּיַד מֶלֶךְ אֲרָם וַיַּכּוּ-בוֹ וַיִּשְׁבּוּ מִמֶּנּוּ שִׁבְיָה גְדוֹלָה וַיָּבִיאוּ דַּרְמָשֶׂק וְגַם בְּיַד-מֶלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל נִתָּן וַיַּךְ-בּוֹ מַכָּה גְדוֹלָֽה׃
Wherefore the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.
וַיִּזְבַּח לֵֽאלֹהֵי דַרְמֶשֶׂק הַמַּכִּים בּוֹ וַיֹּאמֶר כִּי אֱלֹהֵי מַלְכֵֽי-אֲרָם הֵם מַעְזְרִים אֹתָם לָהֶם אֲזַבֵּחַ וְיַעְזְרוּנִי וְהֵם הָֽיוּ-לוֹ לְהַכְשִׁילוֹ וּלְכָל-יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.
וּבִימֵי אַרְתַּחְשַׁשְׂתָּא כָּתַב בִּשְׁלָם מִתְרְדָת טָֽבְאֵל וּשְׁאָר (כנותו) כְּנָוֺתָיו עַל-(ארתחששתא) אַרְתַּחְשַׁשְׂתְּ מֶלֶךְ פָּרָס וּכְתָב הַֽנִּשְׁתְּוָן כָּתוּב אֲרָמִית וּמְתֻרְגָּם אֲרָמִֽית׃
And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their companions, unto Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian tongue, and interpreted in the Syrian tongue.
וַיְהִי בִּימֵי אָחָז בֶּן-יוֹתָם בֶּן-עֻזִּיָּהוּ מֶלֶךְ יְהוּדָה עָלָה רְצִין מֶֽלֶךְ-אֲרָם וּפֶקַח בֶּן-רְמַלְיָהוּ מֶֽלֶךְ-יִשְׂרָאֵל יְרוּשָׁלִַם לַמִּלְחָמָה עָלֶיהָ וְלֹא יָכֹל לְהִלָּחֵם עָלֶֽיהָ׃
And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.
וַיֻּגַּד לְבֵית דָּוִד לֵאמֹר נָחָֽה אֲרָם עַל-אֶפְרָיִם וַיָּנַע לְבָבוֹ וּלְבַב עַמּוֹ כְּנוֹעַ עֲצֵי-יַעַר מִפְּנֵי-רֽוּחַ׃
And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind.
וְאָמַרְתָּ אֵלָיו הִשָּׁמֵר וְהַשְׁקֵט אַל-תִּירָא וּלְבָבְךָ אַל-יֵרַךְ מִשְּׁנֵי זַנְבוֹת הָאוּדִים הָעֲשֵׁנִים הָאֵלֶּה בָּחֳרִי-אַף רְצִין וַאֲרָם וּבֶן-רְמַלְיָֽהוּ׃
And say unto him, Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.
יַעַן כִּֽי-יָעַץ עָלֶיךָ אֲרָם רָעָה אֶפְרַיִם וּבֶן-רְמַלְיָהוּ לֵאמֹֽר׃
Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying,
כִּי רֹאשׁ אֲרָם דַּמֶּשֶׂק וְרֹאשׁ דַּמֶּשֶׂק רְצִין וּבְעוֹד שִׁשִּׁים וְחָמֵשׁ שָׁנָה יֵחַת אֶפְרַיִם מֵעָֽם׃
For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that it be not a people.
אֲרָם מִקֶּדֶם וּפְלִשְׁתִּים מֵֽאָחוֹר וַיֹּאכְלוּ אֶת-יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּכָל-פֶּה בְּכָל-זֹאת לֹא-שָׁב אַפּוֹ וְעוֹד יָדוֹ נְטוּיָֽה׃
The Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
וְנִשְׁבַּת מִבְצָר מֵֽאֶפְרַיִם וּמַמְלָכָה מִדַּמֶּשֶׂק וּשְׁאָר אֲרָם כִּכְבוֹד בְּנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל יִֽהְיוּ נְאֻם יְהוָה צְבָאֽוֹת׃
The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֶלְיָקִים וְשֶׁבְנָא וְיוֹאָח אֶל-רַב-שָׁקֵה דַּבֶּר-נָא אֶל-עֲבָדֶיךָ אֲרָמִית כִּי שֹׁמְעִים אֲנָחְנוּ וְאַל-תְּדַבֵּר אֵלֵינוּ יְהוּדִית בְּאָזְנֵי הָעָם אֲשֶׁר עַל-הַחוֹמָֽה׃
Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jews' language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.
וַיְהִי בַּעֲלוֹת נְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּר מֶֽלֶךְ-בָּבֶל אֶל-הָאָרֶץ וַנֹּאמֶר בֹּאוּ וְנָבוֹא יְרוּשָׁלִַם מִפְּנֵי חֵיל הַכַּשְׂדִּים וּמִפְּנֵי חֵיל אֲרָם וַנֵּשֶׁב בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃
But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians: so we dwell at Jerusalem.
בְּטֶרֶם תִּגָּלֶה רָעָתֵךְ כְּמוֹ עֵת חֶרְפַּת בְּנוֹת-אֲרָם וְכָל-סְבִיבוֹתֶיהָ בְּנוֹת פְּלִשְׁתִּים הַשָּׁאטוֹת אוֹתָךְ מִסָּבִֽיב׃
Before thy wickedness was discovered, as at the time of thy reproach of the daughters of Syria, and all that are round about her, the daughters of the Philistines, which despise thee round about.
אֲרָם סֹחַרְתֵּךְ מֵרֹב מַעֲשָׂיִךְ בְּנֹפֶךְ אַרְגָּמָן וְרִקְמָה וּבוּץ וְרָאמֹת וְכַדְכֹּד נָתְנוּ בְּעִזְבוֹנָֽיִךְ׃
Syria was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of the wares of thy making: they occupied in thy fairs with emeralds, purple, and broidered work, and fine linen, and coral, and agate.
וַֽיְדַבְּרוּ הַכַּשְׂדִּים לַמֶּלֶךְ אֲרָמִית מַלְכָּא לְעָלְמִין חֱיִי אֱמַר חֶלְמָא לְעַבְדָיךְ וּפִשְׁרָא נְחַוֵּֽא׃
Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.
וַיִּבְרַח יַעֲקֹב שְׂדֵה אֲרָם וַיַּעֲבֹד יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּאִשָּׁה וּבְאִשָּׁה שָׁמָֽר׃
And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.
וְשָֽׁבַרְתִּי בְּרִיחַ דַּמֶּשֶׂק וְהִכְרַתִּי יוֹשֵׁב מִבִּקְעַת-אָוֶן וְתוֹמֵךְ שֵׁבֶט מִבֵּית עֶדֶן וְגָלוּ עַם-אֲרָם קִירָה אָמַר יְהוָֽה׃
I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the LORD.
הֲלוֹא כִבְנֵי כֻשִׁיִּים אַתֶּם לִי בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל נְאֻם-יְהוָה הֲלוֹא אֶת-יִשְׂרָאֵל הֶעֱלֵיתִי מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם וּפְלִשְׁתִּיִּים מִכַּפְתּוֹר וַאֲרָם מִקִּֽיר׃
Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith the LORD. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?
Ἰούδας δὲ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Φαρὲς καὶ τὸν Ζαρὰ ἐκ τῆς Θαμάρ· Φαρὲς δὲ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ἑσρώμ· Ἑσρὼμ δὲ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ἀράμ
And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
Ἀρὰμ δὲ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ἀμιναδάβ· Ἀμιναδὰβ δὲ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ναασσών· Ναασσὼν δὲ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Σαλμών
And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;
τοῦ Ἀμιναδὰβ τοῦ Ἀράμ τοῦ Ἑσρὼμ τοῦ Φάρες τοῦ Ἰούδα
Which was the son of Aminadab, which was the son of Aram, which was the son of Esrom, which was the son of Phares, which was the son of Juda,
לַמְנַצֵּחַ עַל-שׁוּשַׁן עֵדוּת מִכְתָּם לְדָוִד לְלַמֵּֽד׃ בְּהַצּוֹתוֹ׀ אֶת אֲרַם נַהֲרַיִם וְאֶת-אֲרַם צוֹבָה וַיָּשָׁב יוֹאָב וַיַּךְ אֶת-אֱדוֹם בְּגֵיא-מֶלַח שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר אָֽלֶף׃
To the chief Musician upon Shushan-eduth, Michtam of David, to teach; when he strove with Aram-naharaim and with Aram-zobah, when Joab returned, and smote of Edom in the valley of salt twelve thousand.
