לֹֽא-יִמָּצֵא בְךָ מַֽעֲבִיר בְּנֽוֹ-וּבִתּוֹ בָּאֵשׁ קֹסֵם קְסָמִים מְעוֹנֵן וּמְנַחֵשׁ וּמְכַשֵּֽׁף׃
There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
כִּֽי-יִקַּח אִישׁ אִשָּׁה חֲדָשָׁה לֹא יֵצֵא בַּצָּבָא וְלֹֽא-יַעֲבֹר עָלָיו לְכָל-דָּבָר נָקִי יִֽהְיֶה לְבֵיתוֹ שָׁנָה אֶחָת וְשִׂמַּח אֶת-אִשְׁתּוֹ אֲשֶׁר-לָקָֽח׃
When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken.
וְאָֽמַרְתָּ לִפְנֵי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ בִּעַרְתִּי הַקֹּדֶשׁ מִן-הַבַּיִת וְגַם נְתַתִּיו לַלֵּוִי וְלַגֵּר לַיָּתוֹם וְלָֽאַלְמָנָה כְּכָל-מִצְוָֽתְךָ אֲשֶׁר צִוִּיתָנִי לֹֽא-עָבַרְתִּי מִמִּצְוֹתֶיךָ וְלֹא שָׁכָֽחְתִּי׃
Then thou shalt say before the LORD thy God, I have brought away the hallowed things out of mine house, and also have given them unto the Levite, and unto the stranger, to the fatherless, and to the widow, according to all thy commandments which thou hast commanded me: I have not transgressed thy commandments, neither have I forgotten them:
וְהָיָה בַּיּוֹם אֲשֶׁר תַּֽעַבְרוּ אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן אֶל-הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ נֹתֵן לָךְ וַהֲקֵֽמֹתָ לְךָ אֲבָנִים גְּדֹלוֹת וְשַׂדְתָּ אֹתָם בַּשִּֽׂיד׃
And it shall be on the day when ye shall pass over Jordan unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and plaister them with plaister:
וְכָֽתַבְתָּ עֲלֵיהֶן אֶֽת-כָּל-דִּבְרֵי הַתּוֹרָה הַזֹּאת בְּעָבְרֶךָ לְמַעַן אֲשֶׁר תָּבֹא אֶל-הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ׀ נֹתֵן לְךָ אֶרֶץ זָבַת חָלָב וּדְבַשׁ כַּֽאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵֽי-אֲבֹתֶיךָ לָֽךְ׃
And thou shalt write upon them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over, that thou mayest go in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, a land that floweth with milk and honey; as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee.
וְהָיָה בְּעָבְרְכֶם אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן תָּקִימוּ אֶת-הָֽאֲבָנִים הָאֵלֶּה אֲשֶׁר אָֽנֹכִי מְצַוֶּה אֶתְכֶם הַיּוֹם בְּהַר עֵיבָל וְשַׂדְתָּ אוֹתָם בַּשִּֽׂיד׃
Therefore it shall be when ye be gone over Jordan, that ye shall set up these stones, which I command you this day, in mount Ebal, and thou shalt plaister them with plaister.
אֵלֶּה יַֽעַמְדוּ לְבָרֵךְ אֶת-הָעָם עַל-הַר גְּרִזִים בְּעָבְרְכֶם אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן שִׁמְעוֹן וְלֵוִי וִֽיהוּדָה וְיִשָּׂשכָר וְיוֹסֵף וּבִנְיָמִֽן׃
These shall stand upon mount Gerizim to bless the people, when ye are come over Jordan; Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin:
לְעָבְרְךָ בִּבְרִית יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ וּבְאָֽלָתוֹ אֲשֶׁר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ כֹּרֵת עִמְּךָ הַיּֽוֹם׃
That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the LORD thy God, and into his oath, which the LORD thy God maketh with thee this day:
כִּֽי-אַתֶּם יְדַעְתֶּם אֵת אֲשֶׁר-יָשַׁבְנוּ בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם וְאֵת אֲשֶׁר-עָבַרְנוּ בְּקֶרֶב הַגּוֹיִם אֲשֶׁר עֲבַרְתֶּֽם׃
(For ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the nations which ye passed by;
וְלֹֽא-מֵעֵבֶר לַיָּם הִוא לֵאמֹר מִי יַֽעֲבָר-לָנוּ אֶל-עֵבֶר הַיָּם וְיִקָּחֶהָ לָּנוּ וְיַשְׁמִעֵנוּ אֹתָהּ וְנַֽעֲשֶֽׂנָּה׃
Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
הִגַּדְתִּי לָכֶם הַיּוֹם כִּי אָבֹד תֹּֽאבֵדוּן לֹֽא-תַאֲרִיכֻן יָמִים עַל-הָאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר אַתָּה עֹבֵר אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן לָבוֹא שָׁמָּה לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃
I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם בֶּן-מֵאָה וְעֶשְׂרִים שָׁנָה אָֽנֹכִי הַיּוֹם לֹֽא-אוּכַל עוֹד לָצֵאת וְלָבוֹא וַֽיהוָה אָמַר אֵלַי לֹא תַֽעֲבֹר אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן הַזֶּֽה׃
And he said unto them, I am an hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: also the LORD hath said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan.
יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ הוּא׀ עֹבֵר לְפָנֶיךָ הֽוּא-יַשְׁמִיד אֶת-הַגּוֹיִם הָאֵלֶּה מִלְּפָנֶיךָ וִֽירִשְׁתָּם יְהוֹשֻׁעַ הוּא עֹבֵר לְפָנֶיךָ כַּֽאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָֽה׃
The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said.
וּבְנֵיהֶם אֲשֶׁר לֹֽא-יָדְעוּ יִשְׁמְעוּ וְלָמְדוּ לְיִרְאָה אֶת-יְהוָה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם כָּל-הַיָּמִים אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם חַיִּים עַל-הָאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם עֹֽבְרִים אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן שָׁמָּה לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃
And that their children, which have not known any thing, may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as ye live in the land whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.
כִּי לֹֽא-דָבָר רֵק הוּא מִכֶּם כִּי-הוּא חַיֵּיכֶם וּבַדָּבָר הַזֶּה תַּֽאֲרִיכוּ יָמִים עַל-הָאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם עֹֽבְרִים אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן שָׁמָּה לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃
For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֵלָיו זֹאת הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּעְתִּי לְאַבְרָהָם לְיִצְחָק וּֽלְיַעֲקֹב לֵאמֹר לְזַרְעֲךָ אֶתְּנֶנָּה הֶרְאִיתִיךָ בְעֵינֶיךָ וְשָׁמָּה לֹא תַֽעֲבֹֽר׃
And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.
וַיִּקְבֹּר אֹתוֹ בַגַּיְ בְּאֶרֶץ מוֹאָב מוּל בֵּית פְּעוֹר וְלֹֽא-יָדַע אִישׁ אֶת-קְבֻרָתוֹ עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּֽה׃
And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Beth-peor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.
מֹשֶׁה עַבְדִּי מֵת וְעַתָּה קוּם עֲבֹר אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן הַזֶּה אַתָּה וְכָל-הָעָם הַזֶּה אֶל-הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר אָֽנֹכִי נֹתֵן לָהֶם לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.
עִבְרוּ׀ בְּקֶרֶב הַֽמַּחֲנֶה וְצַוּוּ אֶת-הָעָם לֵאמֹר הָכִינוּ לָכֶם צֵידָה כִּי בְּעוֹד׀ שְׁלֹשֶׁת יָמִים אַתֶּם עֹֽבְרִים אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן הַזֶּה לָבוֹא לָרֶשֶׁת אֶת-הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר יְהוָה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם נֹתֵן לָכֶם לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃
Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it.
נְשֵׁיכֶם טַפְּכֶם וּמִקְנֵיכֶם יֵֽשְׁבוּ בָּאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר נָתַן לָכֶם מֹשֶׁה בְּעֵבֶר הַיַּרְדֵּן וְאַתֶּם תַּֽעַבְרוּ חֲמֻשִׁים לִפְנֵי אֲחֵיכֶם כֹּל גִּבּוֹרֵי הַחַיִל וַֽעֲזַרְתֶּם אוֹתָֽם׃
Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;
וַיָּשֻׁבוּ שְׁנֵי הָֽאֲנָשִׁים וַיֵּֽרְדוּ מֵֽהָהָר וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ וַיָּבֹאוּ אֶל-יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן-נוּן וַיְסַפְּרוּ-לוֹ אֵת כָּל-הַמֹּֽצְאוֹת אוֹתָֽם׃
So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them:
וַיַּשְׁכֵּם יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בַּבֹּקֶר וַיִּסְעוּ מֵֽהַשִּׁטִּים וַיָּבֹאוּ עַד-הַיַּרְדֵּן הוּא וְכָל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיָּלִנוּ שָׁם טֶרֶם יַֽעֲבֹֽרוּ׃
And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.
וַיְהִי מִקְצֵה שְׁלֹשֶׁת יָמִים וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ הַשֹּֽׁטְרִים בְּקֶרֶב הַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃
And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the host;
אַךְ׀ רָחוֹק יִֽהְיֶה בֵּֽינֵיכֶם (ובינו) וּבֵינָיו כְּאַלְפַּיִם אַמָּה בַּמִּדָּה אַֽל-תִּקְרְבוּ אֵלָיו לְמַעַן אֲשֶׁר-תֵּֽדְעוּ אֶת-הַדֶּרֶךְ אֲשֶׁר תֵּֽלְכוּ-בָהּ כִּי לֹא עֲבַרְתֶּם בַּדֶּרֶךְ מִתְּמוֹל שִׁלְשֽׁוֹם׃
Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוֹשֻׁעַ אֶל-הַכֹּֽהֲנִים לֵאמֹר שְׂאוּ אֶת-אֲרוֹן הַבְּרִית וְעִבְרוּ לִפְנֵי הָעָם וַיִּשְׂאוּ אֶת-אֲרוֹן הַבְּרִית וַיֵּֽלְכוּ לִפְנֵי הָעָֽם׃
And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.
הִנֵּה אֲרוֹן הַבְּרִית אֲדוֹן כָּל-הָאָרֶץ עֹבֵר לִפְנֵיכֶם בַּיַּרְדֵּֽן׃
Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passeth over before you into Jordan.
וַיְהִי בִּנְסֹעַ הָעָם מֵאָהֳלֵיהֶם לַֽעֲבֹר אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן וְהַכֹּֽהֲנִים נֹֽשְׂאֵי הָֽאָרוֹן הַבְּרִית לִפְנֵי הָעָֽם׃
And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people;
וַיַּֽעַמְדוּ הַמַּיִם הַיֹּֽרְדִים מִלְמַעְלָה קָמוּ נֵד-אֶחָד הַרְחֵק מְאֹד (באדם) מֵֽאָדָם הָעִיר אֲשֶׁר מִצַּד צָֽרְתָן וְהַיֹּֽרְדִים עַל יָם הָֽעֲרָבָה יָם-הַמֶּלַח תַּמּוּ נִכְרָתוּ וְהָעָם עָֽבְרוּ נֶגֶד יְרִיחֽוֹ׃
That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.
וַיַּֽעַמְדוּ הַכֹּֽהֲנִים נֹֽשְׂאֵי הָֽאָרוֹן בְּרִית-יְהוָה בֶּחָֽרָבָה בְּתוֹךְ הַיַּרְדֵּן הָכֵן וְכָל-יִשְׂרָאֵל עֹֽבְרִים בֶּחָרָבָה עַד אֲשֶׁר-תַּמּוּ כָּל-הַגּוֹי לַֽעֲבֹר אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃
And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.
וַֽיְהִי כַּֽאֲשֶׁר-תַּמּוּ כָל-הַגּוֹי לַֽעֲבוֹר אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-יְהוֹשֻׁעַ לֵאמֹֽר׃
And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over Jordan, that the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,
וְצַוּוּ אוֹתָם לֵאמֹר שְׂאֽוּ-לָכֶם מִזֶּה מִתּוֹךְ הַיַּרְדֵּן מִמַּצַּב רַגְלֵי הַכֹּֽהֲנִים הָכִין שְׁתֵּים-עֶשְׂרֵה אֲבָנִים וְהַֽעֲבַרְתֶּם אוֹתָם עִמָּכֶם וְהִנַּחְתֶּם אוֹתָם בַּמָּלוֹן אֲשֶׁר-תָּלִינוּ בוֹ הַלָּֽיְלָה׃
And command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night.
וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם יְהוֹשֻׁעַ עִבְרוּ לִפְנֵי אֲרוֹן יְהוָה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם אֶל-תּוֹךְ הַיַּרְדֵּן וְהָרִימוּ לָכֶם אִישׁ אֶבֶן אַחַת עַל-שִׁכְמוֹ לְמִסְפַּר שִׁבְטֵי בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of Jordan, and take ye up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel:
וַֽאֲמַרְתֶּם לָהֶם אֲשֶׁר נִכְרְתוּ מֵימֵי הַיַּרְדֵּן מִפְּנֵי אֲרוֹן בְּרִית-יְהוָה בְּעָבְרוֹ בַּיַּרְדֵּן נִכְרְתוּ מֵי הַיַּרְדֵּן וְהָיוּ הָֽאֲבָנִים הָאֵלֶּה לְזִכָּרוֹן לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל עַד-עוֹלָֽם׃
Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.
וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ-כֵן בְּנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל כַּֽאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוֹשֻׁעַ וַיִּשְׂאוּ שְׁתֵּֽי-עֶשְׂרֵה אֲבָנִים מִתּוֹךְ הַיַּרְדֵּן כַּֽאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה אֶל-יְהוֹשֻׁעַ לְמִסְפַּר שִׁבְטֵי בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיַּֽעֲבִרוּם עִמָּם אֶל-הַמָּלוֹן וַיַּנִּחוּם שָֽׁם׃
And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of Jordan, as the LORD spake unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.
וְהַכֹּֽהֲנִים נֹֽשְׂאֵי הָֽאָרוֹן עֹֽמְדִים בְּתוֹךְ הַיַּרְדֵּן עַד תֹּם כָּֽל-הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר-צִוָּה יְהוָה אֶת-יְהוֹשֻׁעַ לְדַבֵּר אֶל-הָעָם כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר-צִוָּה מֹשֶׁה אֶת-יְהוֹשֻׁעַ וַיְמַֽהֲרוּ הָעָם וַֽיַּעֲבֹֽרוּ׃
For the priests which bare the ark stood in the midst of Jordan, until every thing was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over.
וַיְהִי כַּֽאֲשֶׁר-תַּם כָּל-הָעָם לַֽעֲבוֹר וַיַּֽעֲבֹר אֲרוֹן-יְהוָה וְהַכֹּֽהֲנִים לִפְנֵי הָעָֽם׃
And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of the LORD passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.
וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ בְּנֵֽי-רְאוּבֵן וּבְנֵי-גָד וַֽחֲצִי שֵׁבֶט הַֽמְנַשֶּׁה חֲמֻשִׁים לִפְנֵי בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל כַּֽאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר אֲלֵיהֶם מֹשֶֽׁה׃
And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spake unto them:
כְּאַרְבָּעִים אֶלֶף חֲלוּצֵי הַצָּבָא עָֽבְרוּ לִפְנֵי יְהוָה לַמִּלְחָמָה אֶל עַֽרְבוֹת יְרִיחֽוֹ׃
About forty thousand prepared for war passed over before the LORD unto battle, to the plains of Jericho.
וְהֽוֹדַעְתֶּם אֶת-בְּנֵיכֶם לֵאמֹר בַּיַּבָּשָׁה עָבַר יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן הַזֶּֽה׃
Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.
אֲשֶׁר-הוֹבִישׁ יְהוָה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם אֶת-מֵי הַיַּרְדֵּן מִפְּנֵיכֶם עַֽד-עָבְרְכֶם כַּֽאֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה יְהוָה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם לְיַם-סוּף אֲשֶׁר-הוֹבִישׁ מִפָּנֵינוּ עַד-עָבְרֵֽנוּ׃
For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:
וַיְהִי כִשְׁמֹעַ כָּל-מַלְכֵי הָֽאֱמֹרִי אֲשֶׁר בְּעֵבֶר הַיַּרְדֵּן יָמָּה וְכָל-מַלְכֵי הַֽכְּנַעֲנִי אֲשֶׁר עַל-הַיָּם אֵת אֲשֶׁר-הוֹבִישׁ יְהוָה אֶת-מֵי הַיַּרְדֵּן מִפְּנֵי בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל עַד-(עברנו) עָבְרָם וַיִּמַּס לְבָבָם וְלֹא-הָיָה בָם עוֹד רוּחַ מִפְּנֵי בְּנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.
(ויאמרו) וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל-הָעָם עִבְרוּ וְסֹבּוּ אֶת-הָעִיר וְהֶחָלוּץ יַֽעֲבֹר לִפְנֵי אֲרוֹן יְהוָֽה׃
And he said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the LORD.
וַיְהִי כֶּֽאֱמֹר יְהוֹשֻׁעַ אֶל-הָעָם וְשִׁבְעָה הַכֹּֽהֲנִים נֹֽשְׂאִים שִׁבְעָה שֽׁוֹפְרוֹת הַיּֽוֹבְלִים לִפְנֵי יְהוָה עָֽבְרוּ וְתָֽקְעוּ בַּשּֽׁוֹפָרוֹת וַֽאֲרוֹן בְּרִית יְהוָה הֹלֵךְ אַֽחֲרֵיהֶֽם׃
And it came to pass, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns passed on before the LORD, and blew with the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוֹשֻׁעַ אֲהָהּ׀ אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה לָמָה הֵֽעֲבַרְתָּ הַֽעֲבִיר אֶת-הָעָם הַזֶּה אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן לָתֵת אֹתָנוּ בְּיַד הָֽאֱמֹרִי לְהַֽאֲבִידֵנוּ וְלוּ הוֹאַלְנוּ וַנֵּשֶׁב בְּעֵבֶר הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃
And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!
חָטָא יִשְׂרָאֵל וְגַם עָֽבְרוּ אֶת-בְּרִיתִי אֲשֶׁר צִוִּיתִי אוֹתָם וְגַם לָֽקְחוּ מִן-הַחֵרֶם וְגַם גָּֽנְבוּ וְגַם כִּֽחֲשׁוּ וְגַם שָׂמוּ בִכְלֵיהֶֽם׃
Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.
וְהָיָה הַנִּלְכָּד בַּחֵרֶם יִשָּׂרֵף בָּאֵשׁ אֹתוֹ וְאֶת-כָּל-אֲשֶׁר-לוֹ כִּי עָבַר אֶת-בְּרִית יְהוָה וְכִֽי-עָשָׂה נְבָלָה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.
וְכָל-הָעָם הַמִּלְחָמָה אֲשֶׁר אִתּוֹ עָלוּ וַֽיִּגְּשׁוּ וַיָּבֹאוּ נֶגֶד הָעִיר וַֽיַּחֲנוּ מִצְּפוֹן לָעַי וְהַגַּי (בינו) בֵּינָיו וּבֵין-הָעָֽי׃
And all the people, even the people of war that were with him, went up, and drew nigh, and came before the city, and pitched on the north side of Ai: now there was a valley between them and Ai.
וַיַּֽעֲבֹר יְהוֹשֻׁעַ וְכָֽל-יִשְׂרָאֵל עִמּוֹ מִמַּקֵּדָה לִבְנָה וַיִּלָּחֶם עִם-לִבְנָֽה׃
Then Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah:
וַיַּֽעֲבֹר יְהוֹשֻׁעַ וְכָל-יִשְׂרָאֵל עִמּוֹ מִלִּבְנָה לָכִישָׁה וַיִּחַן עָלֶיהָ וַיִּלָּחֶם בָּֽהּ׃
And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it:
וַיַּֽעֲבֹר יְהוֹשֻׁעַ וְכָל-יִשְׂרָאֵל עִמּוֹ מִלָּכִישׁ עֶגְלֹנָה וַיַּֽחֲנוּ עָלֶיהָ וַיִּֽלָּחֲמוּ עָלֶֽיהָ׃
And from Lachish Joshua passed unto Eglon, and all Israel with him; and they encamped against it, and fought against it:
וְיָצָא אֶל-מִנֶּגֶב לְמַֽעֲלֵה עַקְרַבִּים וְעָבַר צִנָה וְעָלָה מִנֶּגֶב לְקָדֵשׁ בַּרְנֵעַ וְעָבַר חֶצְרוֹן וְעָלָה אַדָּרָה וְנָסַב הַקַּרְקָֽעָה׃
And it went out to the south side to Maaleh-acrabbim, and passed along to Zin, and ascended up on the south side unto Kadesh-barnea, and passed along to Hezron, and went up to Adar, and fetched a compass to Karkaa:
וְעָבַר עַצְמוֹנָה וְיָצָא נַחַל מִצְרַיִם (והיה) וְהָיוּ תֹּֽצְאוֹת הַגְּבוּל יָמָּה זֶה-יִֽהְיֶה לָכֶם גְּבוּל נֶֽגֶב׃
From thence it passed toward Azmon, and went out unto the river of Egypt; and the goings out of that coast were at the sea: this shall be your south coast.
וְעָלָה הַגְּבוּל בֵּית חָגְלָה וְעָבַר מִצְּפוֹן לְבֵית הָֽעֲרָבָה וְעָלָה הַגְּבוּל אֶבֶן בֹּהַן בֶּן-רְאוּבֵֽן׃
And the border went up to Beth-hogla, and passed along by the north of Beth-arabah; and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben:
וְעָלָה הַגְּבוּל׀ דְּבִרָה מֵעֵמֶק עָכוֹר וְצָפוֹנָה פֹּנֶה אֶל-הַגִּלְגָּל אֲשֶׁר-נֹכַח לְמַֽעֲלֵה אֲדֻמִּים אֲשֶׁר מִנֶּגֶב לַנָּחַל וְעָבַר הַגְּבוּל אֶל-מֵי-עֵין שֶׁמֶשׁ וְהָיוּ תֹֽצְאֹתָיו אֶל-עֵין רֹגֵֽל׃
And the border went up toward Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, looking toward Gilgal, that is before the going up to Adummim, which is on the south side of the river: and the border passed toward the waters of En-shemesh, and the goings out thereof were at En-rogel:
וְעָלָה הַגְּבוּל גֵּי בֶן-הִנֹּם אֶל-כֶּתֶף הַיְבוּסִי מִנֶּגֶב הִיא יְרֽוּשָׁלִָם וְעָלָה הַגְּבוּל אֶל-רֹאשׁ הָהָר אֲשֶׁר עַל-פְּנֵי גֵֽי-הִנֹּם יָמָּה אֲשֶׁר בִּקְצֵה עֵֽמֶק-רְפָאִים צָפֽוֹנָה׃
And the border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnom unto the south side of the Jebusite; the same is Jerusalem: and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lieth before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the end of the valley of the giants northward:
וְנָסַב הַגְּבוּל מִבַּֽעֲלָה יָמָּה אֶל-הַר שֵׂעִיר וְעָבַר אֶל-כֶּתֶף הַר-יְעָרִים מִצָּפוֹנָה הִיא כְסָלוֹן וְיָרַד בֵּֽית-שֶׁמֶשׁ וְעָבַר תִּמְנָֽה׃
And the border compassed from Baalah westward unto mount Seir, and passed along unto the side of mount Jearim, which is Chesalon, on the north side, and went down to Beth-shemesh, and passed on to Timnah:
וְיָצָא הַגְּבוּל אֶל-כֶּתֶף עֶקְרוֹן צָפוֹנָה וְתָאַר הַגְּבוּל שִׁכְּרוֹנָה וְעָבַר הַר-הַֽבַּעֲלָה וְיָצָא יַבְנְאֵל וְהָיוּ תֹּֽצְאוֹת הַגְּבוּל יָֽמָּה׃
And the border went out unto the side of Ekron northward: and the border was drawn to Shicron, and passed along to mount Baalah, and went out unto Jabneel; and the goings out of the border were at the sea.
וְיָצָא מִבֵּֽית-אֵל לוּזָה וְעָבַר אֶל-גְּבוּל הָֽאַרְכִּי עֲטָרֽוֹת׃
And goeth out from Beth-el to Luz, and passeth along unto the borders of Archi to Ataroth,
וְיָצָא הַגְּבוּל הַיָּמָּה הַֽמִּכְמְתָת מִצָּפוֹן וְנָסַב הַגְּבוּל מִזְרָחָה תַּֽאֲנַת שִׁלֹה וְעָבַר אוֹתוֹ מִמִּזְרַח יָנֽוֹחָה׃
And the border went out toward the sea to Michmethah on the north side; and the border went about eastward unto Taanath-shiloh, and passed by it on the east to Janohah;
וַיֵּֽלְכוּ הָֽאֲנָשִׁים וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ בָאָרֶץ וַיִּכְתְּבוּהָ לֶֽעָרִים לְשִׁבְעָה חֲלָקִים עַל-סֵפֶר וַיָּבֹאוּ אֶל-יְהוֹשֻׁעַ אֶל-הַֽמַּחֲנֶה שִׁלֹֽה׃
And the men went and passed through the land, and described it by cities into seven parts in a book, and came again to Joshua to the host at Shiloh.
וְעָבַר מִשָּׁם הַגְּבוּל לוּזָה אֶל-כֶּתֶף לוּזָה נֶגְבָּה הִיא בֵּֽית-אֵל וְיָרַד הַגְּבוּל עַטְרוֹת אַדָּר עַל-הָהָר אֲשֶׁר מִנֶּגֶב לְבֵית-חֹרוֹן תַּחְתּֽוֹן׃
And the border went over from thence toward Luz, to the side of Luz, which is Beth-el, southward; and the border descended to Ataroth-adar, near the hill that lieth on the south side of the nether Beth-horon.
וְיָרַד הַגְּבוּל אֶל-קְצֵה הָהָר אֲשֶׁר עַל-פְּנֵי גֵּי בֶן-הִנֹּם אֲשֶׁר בְּעֵמֶק רְפָאִים צָפוֹנָה וְיָרַד גֵּי הִנֹּם אֶל-כֶּתֶף הַיְבוּסִי נֶגְבָּה וְיָרַד עֵין רֹגֵֽל׃
And the border came down to the end of the mountain that lieth before the valley of the son of Hinnom, and which is in the valley of the giants on the north, and descended to the valley of Hinnom, to the side of Jebusi on the south, and descended to En-rogel,
וְעָבַר אֶל-כֶּתֶף מוּל-הָֽעֲרָבָה צָפוֹנָה וְיָרַד הָֽעֲרָבָֽתָה׃
And passed along toward the side over against Arabah northward, and went down unto Arabah:
וְעָבַר הַגְּבוּל אֶל-כֶּתֶף בֵּית-חָגְלָה צָפוֹנָה (והיה) וְהָיוּ׀ (תצאותיו) תֹּצְאוֹת הַגְּבוּל אֶל-לְשׁוֹן יָם-הַמֶּלַח צָפוֹנָה אֶל-קְצֵה הַיַּרְדֵּן נֶגְבָּה זֶה גְּבוּל נֶֽגֶב׃
And the border passed along to the side of Beth-hoglah northward: and the outgoings of the border were at the north bay of the salt sea at the south end of Jordan: this was the south coast.
וּמִשָּׁם עָבַר קֵדְמָה מִזְרָחָה גִּתָּה חֵפֶר עִתָּה קָצִין וְיָצָא רִמּוֹן הַמְּתֹאָר הַנֵּעָֽה׃
And from thence passeth on along on the east to Gittah-hepher, to Ittah-kazin, and goeth out to Remmon-methoar to Neah;
וְנָסַב אֹתוֹ הַגְּבוּל מִצְּפוֹן חַנָּתֹן וְהָיוּ תֹּֽצְאֹתָיו גֵּי יִפְתַּח-אֵֽל׃
And the border compasseth it on the north side to Hannathon: and the outgoings thereof are in the valley of Jiphthah-el:
וְשָׁב מִזְרַח הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ בֵּית דָּגֹן וּפָגַע בִּזְבֻלוּן וּבְגֵי יִפְתַּח-אֵל צָפוֹנָה בֵּית הָעֵמֶק וּנְעִיאֵל וְיָצָא אֶל-כָּבוּל מִשְּׂמֹֽאל׃
And turneth toward the sunrising to Beth-dagon, and reacheth to Zebulun, and to the valley of Jiphthah-el toward the north side of Beth-emek, and Neiel, and goeth out to Cabul on the left hand,
וְאַךְ אִם-טְמֵאָה אֶרֶץ אֲחֻזַּתְכֶם עִבְרוּ לָכֶם אֶל-אֶרֶץ אֲחֻזַּת יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר שָֽׁכַן-שָׁם מִשְׁכַּן יְהוָה וְהֵאָֽחֲזוּ בְּתוֹכֵנוּ וּבַֽיהוָה אַל-תִּמְרֹדוּ וְאֹתָנוּ אֶל-תִּמְרֹדוּ בִּבְנֹֽתְכֶם לָכֶם מִזְבֵּחַ מִֽבַּלְעֲדֵי מִזְבַּח יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃
Notwithstanding, if the land of your possession be unclean, then pass ye over unto the land of the possession of the LORD, wherein the LORD's tabernacle dwelleth, and take possession among us: but rebel not against the LORD, nor rebel against us, in building you an altar beside the altar of the LORD our God.
בְּעָבְרְכֶם אֶת-בְּרִית יְהוָה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה אֶתְכֶם וַֽהֲלַכְתֶּם וַֽעֲבַדְתֶּם אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים וְהִשְׁתַּֽחֲוִיתֶם לָהֶם וְחָרָה אַף-יְהוָה בָּכֶם וַֽאֲבַדְתֶּם מְהֵרָה מֵעַל הָאָרֶץ הַטּוֹבָה אֲשֶׁר נָתַן לָכֶֽם׃
When ye have transgressed the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them; then shall the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.
וַתַּֽעַבְרוּ אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן וַתָּבֹאוּ אֶל-יְרִיחוֹ וַיִּלָּֽחֲמוּ בָכֶם בַּעֲלֵֽי-יְרִיחוֹ הָֽאֱמֹרִי וְהַפְּרִזִּי וְהַֽכְּנַעֲנִי וְהַֽחִתִּי וְהַגִּרְגָּשִׁי הַֽחִוִּי וְהַיְבוּסִי וָֽאֶתֵּן אוֹתָם בְּיֶדְכֶֽם׃
And ye went over Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand.
כִּי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ הוּא הַמַּֽעֲלֶה אֹתָנוּ וְאֶת-אֲבוֹתֵינוּ מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם מִבֵּית עֲבָדִים וַֽאֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה לְעֵינֵינוּ אֶת-הָֽאֹתוֹת הַגְּדֹלוֹת הָאֵלֶּה וַֽיִּשְׁמְרֵנוּ בְּכָל-הַדֶּרֶךְ אֲשֶׁר הָלַכְנוּ בָהּ וּבְכֹל הָֽעַמִּים אֲשֶׁר עָבַרְנוּ בְּקִרְבָּֽם׃
For the LORD our God, he it is that brought up us and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:
וַיִּֽחַר-אַף יְהוָה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וַיֹּאמֶר יַעַן אֲשֶׁר עָֽבְרוּ הַגּוֹי הַזֶּה אֶת-בְּרִיתִי אֲשֶׁר צִוִּיתִי אֶת-אֲבוֹתָם וְלֹא שָֽׁמְעוּ לְקוֹלִֽי׃
And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;
וְאֵהוּד נִמְלַט עַד הִֽתְמַהְמְהָם וְהוּא עָבַר אֶת-הַפְּסִילִים וַיִּמָּלֵט הַשְּׂעִירָֽתָה׃
And Ehud escaped while they tarried, and passed beyond the quarries, and escaped unto Seirath.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם רִדְפוּ אַֽחֲרַי כִּֽי-נָתַן יְהוָה אֶת-אֹֽיְבֵיכֶם אֶת-מוֹאָב בְּיֶדְכֶם וַיֵּֽרְדוּ אַֽחֲרָיו וַֽיִּלְכְּדוּ אֶֽת-מַעְבְּרוֹת הַיַּרְדֵּן לְמוֹאָב וְלֹֽא-נָתְנוּ אִישׁ לַֽעֲבֹֽר׃
And he said unto them, Follow after me: for the LORD hath delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. And they went down after him, and took the fords of Jordan toward Moab, and suffered not a man to pass over.
וְכָל-מִדְיָן וַֽעֲמָלֵק וּבְנֵי-קֶדֶם נֶֽאֶסְפוּ יַחְדָּו וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ וַֽיַּחֲנוּ בְּעֵמֶק יִזְרְעֶֽאל׃
Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east were gathered together, and went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel.
וַיָּבֹא גִדְעוֹן הַיַּרְדֵּנָה עֹבֵר הוּא וּשְׁלֹשׁ-מֵאוֹת הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר אִתּוֹ עֲיֵפִים וְרֹֽדְפִֽים׃
And Gideon came to Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing them.
וַיָּשִׂימוּ לוֹ בַֽעֲלֵי שְׁכֶם מְאָֽרְבִים עַל רָאשֵׁי הֶֽהָרִים וַיִּגְזְלוּ אֵת כָּל-אֲשֶׁר-יַֽעֲבֹר עֲלֵיהֶם בַּדָּרֶךְ וַיֻּגַּד לַֽאֲבִימֶֽלֶךְ׃
And the men of Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech.
וַיָּבֹא גַּעַל בֶּן-עֶבֶד וְאֶחָיו וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ בִּשְׁכֶם וַיִּבְטְחוּ-בוֹ בַּֽעֲלֵי שְׁכֶֽם׃
And Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brethren, and went over to Shechem: and the men of Shechem put their confidence in him.
וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ בְנֵֽי-עַמּוֹן אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן לְהִלָּחֵם גַּם-בִּֽיהוּדָה וּבְבִנְיָמִין וּבְבֵית אֶפְרָיִם וַתֵּצֶר לְיִשְׂרָאֵל מְאֹֽד׃
Moreover the children of Ammon passed over Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sore distressed.
וַיִּשְׁלַח יִשְׂרָאֵל מַלְאָכִים׀ אֶל-מֶלֶךְ אֱדוֹם׀ לֵאמֹר אֶעְבְּרָה-נָּא בְאַרְצֶךָ וְלֹא שָׁמַע מֶלֶךְ אֱדוֹם וְגַם אֶל-מֶלֶךְ מוֹאָב שָׁלַח וְלֹא אָבָה וַיֵּשֶׁב יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּקָדֵֽשׁ׃
Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom would not hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab: but he would not consent: and Israel abode in Kadesh.
וַיִּשְׁלַח יִשְׂרָאֵל מַלְאָכִים אֶל-סִיחוֹן מֶֽלֶךְ-הָאֱמֹרִי מֶלֶךְ חֶשְׁבּוֹן וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ יִשְׂרָאֵל נַעְבְּרָה-נָּא בְאַרְצְךָ עַד-מְקוֹמִֽי׃
And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said unto him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land into my place.
וְלֹֽא-הֶאֱמִין סִיחוֹן אֶת-יִשְׂרָאֵל עֲבֹר בִּגְבֻלוֹ וַיֶּֽאֱסֹף סִיחוֹן אֶת-כָּל-עַמּוֹ וַֽיַּחֲנוּ בְּיָהְצָה וַיִּלָּחֶם עִם-יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his coast: but Sihon gathered together, all his people and pitched in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
וַתְּהִי עַל-יִפְתָּח רוּחַ יְהוָה וַיַּֽעֲבֹר אֶת-הַגִּלְעָד וְאֶת-מְנַשֶּׁה וַֽיַּעֲבֹר אֶת-מִצְפֵּה גִלְעָד וּמִמִּצְפֵּה גִלְעָד עָבַר בְּנֵי עַמּֽוֹן׃
Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon.
וַיַּֽעֲבֹר יִפְתָּח אֶל-בְּנֵי עַמּוֹן לְהִלָּחֶם בָּם וַיִּתְּנֵם יְהוָה בְּיָדֽוֹ׃
So Jephthah passed over unto the children of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD delivered them into his hands.
וַיִּצָּעֵק אִישׁ אֶפְרַיִם וַֽיַּעֲבֹר צָפוֹנָה וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ לְיִפְתָּח מַדּוּעַ׀ עָבַרְתָּ׀ לְהִלָּחֵם בִּבְנֵֽי-עַמּוֹן וְלָנוּ לֹא קָרָאתָ לָלֶכֶת עִמָּךְ בֵּֽיתְךָ נִשְׂרֹף עָלֶיךָ בָּאֵֽשׁ׃
And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.
וָֽאֶרְאֶה כִּֽי-אֵינְךָ מוֹשִׁיעַ וָֽאָשִׂימָה נַפְשִׁי בְכַפִּי וָֽאֶעְבְּרָה אֶל-בְּנֵי עַמּוֹן וַיִּתְּנֵם יְהוָה בְּיָדִי וְלָמָה עֲלִיתֶם אֵלַי הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה לְהִלָּחֶם בִּֽי׃
And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?
וַיִּלְכֹּד גִּלְעָד אֶֽת-מַעְבְּרוֹת הַיַּרְדֵּן לְאֶפְרָיִם וְֽהָיָה כִּי יֹֽאמְרוּ פְּלִיטֵי אֶפְרַיִם אֶֽעֱבֹרָה וַיֹּאמְרוּ לוֹ אַנְשֵֽׁי-גִלְעָד הַֽאֶפְרָתִי אַתָּה וַיֹּאמֶֽר׀ לֹֽא׃
And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;
וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ מִשָּׁם הַר-אֶפְרָיִם וַיָּבֹאוּ עַד-בֵּית מִיכָֽה׃
And they passed thence unto mount Ephraim, and came unto the house of Micah.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו אֲדֹנָיו לֹא נָסוּר אֶל-עִיר נָכְרִי אֲשֶׁר לֹֽא-מִבְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הֵנָּה וְעָבַרְנוּ עַד-גִּבְעָֽה׃
And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside hither into the city of a stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah.
וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ וַיֵּלֵכוּ וַתָּבֹא לָהֶם הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ אֵצֶל הַגִּבְעָה אֲשֶׁר לְבִנְיָמִֽן׃
And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongeth to Benjamin.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו עֹֽבְרִים אֲנַחְנוּ מִבֵּֽית-לֶחֶם יְהוּדָה עַד-יַרְכְּתֵי הַר-אֶפְרַיִם מִשָּׁם אָנֹכִי וָֽאֵלֵךְ עַד-בֵּית לֶחֶם יְהוּדָה וְאֶת-בֵּית יְהוָה אֲנִי הֹלֵךְ וְאֵין אִישׁ מְאַסֵּף אוֹתִי הַבָּֽיְתָה׃
And he said unto him, We are passing from Bethlehem-judah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Bethlehem-judah, but I am now going to the house of the LORD; and there is no man that receiveth me to house.
וַיֹּאמֶר בֹּעַז אֶל-רוּת הֲלוֹא שָׁמַעַתְּ בִּתִּי אַל-תֵּֽלְכִי לִלְקֹט בְּשָׂדֶה אַחֵר וְגַם לֹא תַֽעֲבוּרִי מִזֶּה וְכֹה תִדְבָּקִין עִם-נַֽעֲרֹתָֽי׃
Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens:
וּבֹעַז עָלָה הַשַּׁעַר וַיֵּשֶׁב שָׁם וְהִנֵּה הַגֹּאֵל עֹבֵר אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר-בֹּעַז וַיֹּאמֶר סוּרָה שְׁבָה-פֹּה פְּלֹנִי אַלְמֹנִי וַיָּסַר וַיֵּשֵֽׁב׃
Then went up Boaz to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.
אַל בָּנָי כִּי לֽוֹא-טוֹבָה הַשְּׁמֻעָה אֲשֶׁר אָֽנֹכִי שֹׁמֵעַ מַֽעֲבִרִים עַם-יְהוָֽה׃
Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD's people to transgress.
וַיַּֽעֲבֹר בְּהַר-אֶפְרַיִם וַיַּֽעֲבֹר בְּאֶֽרֶץ-שָׁלִשָׁה וְלֹא מָצָאוּ וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ בְאֶרֶץ-שַֽׁעֲלִים וָאַיִן וַיַּֽעֲבֹר בְּאֶֽרֶץ-יְמִינִי וְלֹא מָצָֽאוּ׃
And he passed through mount Ephraim, and passed through the land of Shalisha, but they found them not: then they passed through the land of Shalim, and there they were not: and he passed through the land of the Benjamites, but they found them not.
הֵמָּה יֽוֹרְדִים בִּקְצֵה הָעִיר וּשְׁמוּאֵל אָמַר אֶל-שָׁאוּל אֱמֹר לַנַּעַר וְיַֽעֲבֹר לְפָנֵינוּ וַֽיַּעֲבֹר וְאַתָּה עֲמֹד כַּיּוֹם וְאַשְׁמִֽיעֲךָ אֶת-דְּבַר אֱלֹהִֽים׃
And as they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us, (and he passed on,) but stand thou still a while, that I may shew thee the word of God.
וְעִבְרִים עָֽבְרוּ אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן אֶרֶץ גָּד וְגִלְעָד וְשָׁאוּל עוֹדֶנּוּ בַגִּלְגָּל וְכָל-הָעָם חָֽרְדוּ אַֽחֲרָֽיו׃
And some of the Hebrews went over Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. As for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.
וְהָרֹאשׁ אֶחָד יִפְנֶה דֶּרֶךְ בֵּית חֹרוֹן וְהָרֹאשׁ אֶחָד יִפְנֶה דֶּרֶךְ הַגְּבוּל הַנִּשְׁקָף עַל-גֵּי הַצְּבֹעִים הַמִּדְבָּֽרָה׃
And another company turned the way to Beth-horon: and another company turned to the way of the border that looketh to the valley of Zeboim toward the wilderness.
וַיְהִי הַיּוֹם וַיֹּאמֶר יֽוֹנָתָן בֶּן-שָׁאוּל אֶל-הַנַּעַר נֹשֵׂא כֵלָיו לְכָה וְנַעְבְּרָה אֶל-מַצַּב פְּלִשְׁתִּים אֲשֶׁר מֵעֵבֶר הַלָּז וּלְאָבִיו לֹא הִגִּֽיד׃
Now it came to pass upon a day, that Jonathan the son of Saul said unto the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over to the Philistines' garrison, that is on the other side. But he told not his father.
וּבֵין הַֽמַּעְבְּרוֹת אֲשֶׁר בִּקֵּשׁ יֽוֹנָתָן לַֽעֲבֹר עַל-מַצַּב פְּלִשְׁתִּים שֵׁן-הַסֶּלַע מֵֽהָעֵבֶר מִזֶּה וְשֵׁן-הַסֶּלַע מֵֽהָעֵבֶר מִזֶּה וְשֵׁם הָֽאֶחָד בּוֹצֵץ וְשֵׁם הָֽאֶחָד סֶֽנֶּה׃
And between the passages, by which Jonathan sought to go over unto the Philistines' garrison, there was a sharp rock on the one side, and a sharp rock on the other side: and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.
