וַיֹּאמֶר יְהֽוֹנָתָן אֶל-הַנַּעַר׀ נֹשֵׂא כֵלָיו לְכָה וְנַעְבְּרָה אֶל-מַצַּב הָֽעֲרֵלִים הָאֵלֶּה אוּלַי יַֽעֲשֶׂה יְהוָה לָנוּ כִּי אֵין לַֽיהוָה מַעְצוֹר לְהוֹשִׁיעַ בְּרַב אוֹ בִמְעָֽט׃
And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוֹנָתָן הִנֵּה אֲנַחְנוּ עֹֽבְרִים אֶל-הָֽאֲנָשִׁים וְנִגְלִינוּ אֲלֵיהֶֽם׃
Then said Jonathan, Behold, we will pass over unto these men, and we will discover ourselves unto them.
וַיּוֹשַׁע יְהוָה בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא אֶת-יִשְׂרָאֵל וְהַמִּלְחָמָה עָֽבְרָה אֶת-בֵּית אָֽוֶן׃
So the LORD saved Israel that day: and the battle passed over unto Beth-aven.
וַיַּשְׁכֵּם שְׁמוּאֵל לִקְרַאת שָׁאוּל בַּבֹּקֶר וַיֻּגַּד לִשְׁמוּאֵל לֵאמֹר בָּֽא-שָׁאוּל הַכַּרְמֶלָה וְהִנֵּה מַצִּיב לוֹ יָד וַיִּסֹּב וַֽיַּעֲבֹר וַיֵּרֶד הַגִּלְגָּֽל׃
And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.
וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁאוּל אֶל-שְׁמוּאֵל חָטָאתִי כִּֽי-עָבַרְתִּי אֶת-פִּֽי-יְהוָה וְאֶת-דְּבָרֶיךָ כִּי יָרֵאתִי אֶת-הָעָם וָֽאֶשְׁמַע בְּקוֹלָֽם׃
And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
וַיִּקְרָא יִשַׁי אֶל-אֲבִינָדָב וַיַּֽעֲבִרֵהוּ לִפְנֵי שְׁמוּאֵל וַיֹּאמֶר גַּם-בָּזֶה לֹֽא-בָחַר יְהוָֽה׃
Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.
וַיַּֽעֲבֵר יִשַׁי שַׁמָּה וַיֹּאמֶר גַּם-בָּזֶה לֹֽא-בָחַר יְהוָֽה׃
Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.
וַיַּֽעֲבֵר יִשַׁי שִׁבְעַת בָּנָיו לִפְנֵי שְׁמוּאֵל וַיֹּאמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל אֶל-יִשַׁי לֹֽא-בָחַר יְהוָה בָּאֵֽלֶּה׃
Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these.
וּפְלִשְׁתִּים עֹֽמְדִים אֶל-הָהָר מִזֶּה וְיִשְׂרָאֵל עֹֽמְדִים אֶל-הָהָר מִזֶּה וְהַגַּיְא בֵּֽינֵיהֶֽם׃
And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
וַיָּקֻמוּ אַנְשֵׁי יִשְׂרָאֵל וִֽיהוּדָה וַיָּרִעוּ וַֽיִּרְדְּפוּ אֶת-הַפְּלִשְׁתִּים עַד-בּֽוֹאֲךָ גַיְא וְעַד שַֽׁעֲרֵי עֶקְרוֹן וַֽיִּפְּלוּ חַֽלְלֵי פְלִשְׁתִּים בְּדֶרֶךְ שַֽׁעֲרַיִם וְעַד-גַּת וְעַד-עֶקְרֽוֹן׃
And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron.
וַיֹּאמֶר לְנַֽעֲרוֹ רֻץ מְצָא נָא אֶת-הַחִצִּים אֲשֶׁר אָֽנֹכִי מוֹרֶה הַנַּעַר רָץ וְהֽוּא-יָרָה הַחֵצִי לְהַֽעֲבִרֽוֹ׃
And he said unto his lad, Run, find out now the arrows which I shoot. And as the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him.
וַתֹּאמֶר לִנְעָרֶיהָ עִבְרוּ לְפָנַי הִנְנִי אַֽחֲרֵיכֶם בָּאָה וּלְאִישָׁהּ נָבָל לֹא הִגִּֽידָה׃
And she said unto her servants, Go on before me; behold, I come after you. But she told not her husband Nabal.
וַיַּֽעֲבֹר דָּוִד הָעֵבֶר וַיַּֽעֲמֹד עַל-רֹאשׁ-הָהָר מֵֽרָחֹק רַב הַמָּקוֹם בֵּֽינֵיהֶֽם׃
Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of an hill afar off; a great space being between them:
וַיַּעַן דָּוִד וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֵּה (החנית) חֲנִית הַמֶּלֶךְ וְיַֽעֲבֹר אֶחָד מֵֽהַנְּעָרִים וְיִקָּחֶֽהָ׃
And David answered and said, Behold the king's spear! and let one of the young men come over and fetch it.
וַיָּקָם דָּוִד וַיַּֽעֲבֹר הוּא וְשֵׁשׁ-מֵאוֹת אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר עִמּוֹ אֶל-אָכִישׁ בֶּן-מָעוֹךְ מֶלֶךְ גַּֽת׃
And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him unto Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
וְסַרְנֵי פְלִשְׁתִּים עֹֽבְרִים לְמֵאוֹת וְלַֽאֲלָפִים וְדָוִד וַֽאֲנָשָׁיו עֹֽבְרִים בָּאַֽחֲרֹנָה עִם-אָכִֽישׁ׃
And the lords of the Philistines passed on by hundreds, and by thousands: but David and his men passed on in the rereward with Achish.
וַיִּרְדֹּף דָּוִד הוּא וְאַרְבַּע-מֵאוֹת אִישׁ וַיַּֽעַמְדוּ מָאתַיִם אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר פִּגְּרוּ מֵֽעֲבֹר אֶת-נַחַל הַבְּשֽׂוֹר׃
But David pursued, he and four hundred men: for two hundred abode behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor.
וְאַבְנֵר בֶּן-נֵר שַׂר-צָבָא אֲשֶׁר לְשָׁאוּל לָקַח אֶת-אִישׁ בֹּשֶׁת בֶּן-שָׁאוּל וַיַּֽעֲבִרֵהוּ מַֽחֲנָֽיִם׃
But Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul's host, took Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim;
וַיָּקֻמוּ וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ בְמִסְפָּר שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר לְבִנְיָמִן וּלְאִישׁ בֹּשֶׁת בֶּן-שָׁאוּל וּשְׁנֵים עָשָׂר מֵֽעַבְדֵי דָוִֽד׃
Then there arose and went over by number twelve of Benjamin, which pertained to Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David.
וְאַבְנֵר וַֽאֲנָשָׁיו הָֽלְכוּ בָּֽעֲרָבָה כֹּל הַלַּיְלָה הַהוּא וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן וַיֵּֽלְכוּ כָּל-הַבִּתְרוֹן וַיָּבֹאוּ מַֽחֲנָֽיִם׃
And Abner and his men walked all that night through the plain, and passed over Jordan, and went through all Bithron, and they came to Mahanaim.
לְהַֽעֲבִיר הַמַּמְלָכָה מִבֵּית שָׁאוּל וּלְהָקִים אֶת-כִּסֵּא דָוִד עַל-יִשְׂרָאֵל וְעַל-יְהוּדָה מִדָּן וְעַד-בְּאֵר שָֽׁבַע׃
To translate the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beer-sheba.
וַיַּעַשׂ דָּוִד שֵׁם בְּשֻׁבוֹ מֵֽהַכּוֹתוֹ אֶת-אֲרָם בְּגֵיא-מֶלַח שְׁמוֹנָה עָשָׂר אָֽלֶף׃
And David gat him a name when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt, being eighteen thousand men.
וַיֻּגַּד לְדָוִד וַיֶּֽאֱסֹף אֶת-כָּל-יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיַּֽעֲבֹר אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן וַיָּבֹא חֵלָאמָה וַיַּֽעַרְכוּ אֲרָם לִקְרַאת דָּוִד וַיִּֽלָּחֲמוּ עִמּֽוֹ׃
And when it was told David, he gathered together, all Israel and passed over Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.
וַיַּֽעֲבֹר הָאֵבֶל וַיִּשְׁלַח דָּוִד וַיַּֽאַסְפָהּ אֶל-בֵּיתוֹ וַתְּהִי-לוֹ לְאִשָּׁה וַתֵּלֶד לוֹ בֵּן וַיֵּרַע הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר-עָשָׂה דָוִד בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָֽה׃
And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.
וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִד אֶל-נָתָן חָטָאתִי לַֽיהוָה וַיֹּאמֶר נָתָן אֶל-דָּוִד גַּם-יְהוָה הֶֽעֱבִיר חַטָּֽאתְךָ לֹא תָמֽוּת׃
And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.
וְאֶת-הָעָם אֲשֶׁר-בָּהּ הוֹצִיא וַיָּשֶׂם בַּמְּגֵרָה וּבַֽחֲרִצֵי הַבַּרְזֶל וּֽבְמַגְזְרֹת הַבַּרְזֶל וְהֶֽעֱבִיר אוֹתָם (במלכן) בַּמַּלְבֵּן וְכֵן יַֽעֲשֶׂה לְכֹל עָרֵי בְנֵֽי-עַמּוֹן וַיָּשָׁב דָּוִד וְכָל-הָעָם יְרֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃
And he brought forth the people that were therein, and put them under saws, and under harrows of iron, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brickkiln: and thus did he unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. So David and all the people returned unto Jerusalem.
וְכָל-עֲבָדָיו עֹֽבְרִים עַל-יָדוֹ וְכָל-הַכְּרֵתִי וְכָל-הַפְּלֵתִי וְכָֽל-הַגִּתִּים שֵׁשׁ-מֵאוֹת אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר-בָּאוּ בְרַגְלוֹ מִגַּת עֹֽבְרִים עַל-פְּנֵי הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
And all his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men which came after him from Gath, passed on before the king.
וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִד אֶל-אִתַּי לֵךְ וַֽעֲבֹר וַֽיַּעֲבֹר אִתַּי הַגִּתִּי וְכָל-אֲנָשָׁיו וְכָל-הַטַּף אֲשֶׁר אִתּֽוֹ׃
And David said to Ittai, Go and pass over. And Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men, and all the little ones that were with him.
וְכָל-הָאָרֶץ בּוֹכִים קוֹל גָּדוֹל וְכָל-הָעָם עֹֽבְרִים וְהַמֶּלֶךְ עֹבֵר בְּנַחַל קִדְרוֹן וְכָל-הָעָם עֹֽבְרִים עַל-פְּנֵי-דֶרֶךְ אֶת-הַמִּדְבָּֽר׃
And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over: the king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over, toward the way of the wilderness.
וְהִנֵּה גַם-צָדוֹק וְכָֽל-הַלְוִיִּם אִתּוֹ נֹֽשְׂאִים אֶת-אֲרוֹן בְּרִית הָֽאֱלֹהִים וַיַּצִּקוּ אֶת-אֲרוֹן הָֽאֱלֹהִים וַיַּעַל אֶבְיָתָר עַד-תֹּם כָּל-הָעָם לַֽעֲבוֹר מִן-הָעִֽיר׃
And lo Zadok also, and all the Levites were with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God: and they set down the ark of God; and Abiathar went up, until all the people had done passing out of the city.
וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ דָּוִד אִם עָבַרְתָּ אִתִּי וְהָיִתָ עָלַי לְמַשָּֽׂא׃
Unto whom David said, If thou passest on with me, then thou shalt be a burden unto me:
וְדָוִד עָבַר מְעַט מֵֽהָרֹאשׁ וְהִנֵּה צִיבָא נַעַר מְפִי-בֹשֶׁת לִקְרָאתוֹ וְצֶמֶד חֲמֹרִים חֲבֻשִׁים וַֽעֲלֵיהֶם מָאתַיִם לֶחֶם וּמֵאָה צִמּוּקִים וּמֵאָה קַיִץ וְנֵבֶל יָֽיִן׃
And when David was a little past the top of the hill, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred loaves of bread, and an hundred bunches of raisins, and an hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֲבִישַׁי בֶּן-צְרוּיָה אֶל-הַמֶּלֶךְ לָמָּה יְקַלֵּל הַכֶּלֶב הַמֵּת הַזֶּה אֶת-אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ אֶעְבְּרָה-נָּא וְאָסִירָה אֶת-רֹאשֽׁוֹ׃
Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.
וְעַתָּה שִׁלְחוּ מְהֵרָה וְהַגִּידוּ לְדָוִד לֵאמֹר אַל-תָּלֶן הַלַּיְלָה בְּעַֽרְבוֹת הַמִּדְבָּר וְגַם עָבוֹר תַּֽעֲבוֹר פֶּן יְבֻלַּע לַמֶּלֶךְ וּלְכָל-הָעָם אֲשֶׁר אִתּֽוֹ׃
Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, Lodge not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that are with him.
וַיָּבֹאוּ עַבְדֵי אַבְשָׁלוֹם אֶֽל-הָאִשָּׁה הַבַּיְתָה וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ אַיֵּה אֲחִימַעַץ וִיהוֹנָתָן וַתֹּאמֶר לָהֶם הָֽאִשָּׁה עָֽבְרוּ מִיכַל הַמָּיִם וַיְבַקְשׁוּ וְלֹא מָצָאוּ וַיָּשֻׁבוּ יְרֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃
And when Absalom's servants came to the woman to the house, they said, Where is Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said unto them, They be gone over the brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.
וַיְהִי׀ אַֽחֲרֵי לֶכְתָּם וַֽיַּעֲלוּ מֵֽהַבְּאֵר וַיֵּלְכוּ וַיַּגִּדוּ לַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִד וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ אֶל-דָּוִד קוּמוּ וְעִבְרוּ מְהֵרָה אֶת-הַמַּיִם כִּי-כָכָה יָעַץ עֲלֵיכֶם אֲחִיתֹֽפֶל׃
And it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David, and said unto David, Arise, and pass quickly over the water: for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you.
וַיָּקָם דָּוִד וְכָל-הָעָם אֲשֶׁר אִתּוֹ וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן עַד-אוֹר הַבֹּקֶר עַד-אַחַד לֹא נֶעְדָּר אֲשֶׁר לֹֽא-עָבַר אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃
Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over Jordan.
וְדָוִד בָּא מַֽחֲנָיְמָה וְאַבְשָׁלֹם עָבַר אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן הוּא וְכָל-אִישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל עִמּֽוֹ׃
Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed over Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.
וַיִּקָּרֵא אַבְשָׁלוֹם לִפְנֵי עַבְדֵי דָוִד וְאַבְשָׁלוֹם רֹכֵב עַל-הַפֶּרֶד וַיָּבֹא הַפֶּרֶד תַּחַת שׂוֹבֶךְ הָֽאֵלָה הַגְּדוֹלָה וַיֶּֽחֱזַק רֹאשׁוֹ בָֽאֵלָה וַיֻּתַּן בֵּין הַשָּׁמַיִם וּבֵין הָאָרֶץ וְהַפֶּרֶד אֲשֶׁר-תַּחְתָּיו עָבָֽר׃
And Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away.
וִיהִי-מָה אָרוּץ וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ רוּץ וַיָּרָץ אֲחִימַעַץ דֶּרֶךְ הַכִּכָּר וַֽיַּעֲבֹר אֶת-הַכּוּשִֽׁי׃
But howsoever, said he, let me run. And he said unto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and overran Cushi.
וַיָּשָׁב הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיָּבֹא עַד-הַיַּרְדֵּן וִֽיהוּדָה בָּא הַגִּלְגָּלָה לָלֶכֶת לִקְרַאת הַמֶּלֶךְ לְהַֽעֲבִיר אֶת-הַמֶּלֶךְ אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃
So the king returned, and came to Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to conduct the king over Jordan.
וְעָֽבְרָה הָֽעֲבָרָה לַֽעֲבִיר אֶת-בֵּית הַמֶּלֶךְ וְלַֽעֲשׂוֹת הַטּוֹב (בעינו) בְּעֵינָיו וְשִׁמְעִי בֶן-גֵּרָא נָפַל לִפְנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ בְּעָבְרוֹ בַּיַּרְדֵּֽן׃
And there went over a ferry boat to carry over the king's household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, as he was come over Jordan;
וּבַרְזִלַּי הַגִּלְעָדִי יָרַד מֵרֹֽגְלִים וַיַּֽעֲבֹר אֶת-הַמֶּלֶךְ הַיַּרְדֵּן לְשַׁלְּחוֹ אֶת-(בירדן) הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃
And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim, and went over Jordan with the king, to conduct him over Jordan.
וַיֹּאמֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ אֶל-בַּרְזִלָּי אַתָּה עֲבֹר אִתִּי וְכִלְכַּלְתִּי אֹֽתְךָ עִמָּדִי בִּירֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃
And the king said unto Barzillai, Come thou over with me, and I will feed thee with me in Jerusalem.
כִּמְעַט יַֽעֲבֹר עַבְדְּךָ אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן אֶת-הַמֶּלֶךְ וְלָמָּה יִגְמְלֵנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ הַגְּמוּלָה הַזֹּֽאת׃
Thy servant will go a little way over Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?
יָֽשָׁב-נָא עַבְדְּךָ וְאָמֻת בְּעִירִי עִם קֶבֶר אָבִי וְאִמִּי וְהִנֵּה׀ עַבְדְּךָ כִמְהָם יַֽעֲבֹר עִם-אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ וַֽעֲשֵׂה-לוֹ אֵת אֲשֶׁר-טוֹב בְּעֵינֶֽיךָ׃
Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, and be buried by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.
וַיֹּאמֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ אִתִּי יַֽעֲבֹר כִּמְהָם וַֽאֲנִי אֶֽעֱשֶׂה-לּוֹ אֶת-הַטּוֹב בְּעֵינֶיךָ וְכֹל אֲשֶׁר-תִּבְחַר עָלַי אֶֽעֱשֶׂה-לָּֽךְ׃
And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee: and whatsoever thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee.
וַיַּֽעֲבֹר כָּל-הָעָם אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן וְהַמֶּלֶךְ עָבָר וַיִּשַּׁק הַמֶּלֶךְ לְבַרְזִלַּי וַיְבָרֲכֵהוּ וַיָּשָׁב לִמְקֹמֽוֹ׃
And all the people went over Jordan. And when the king was come over, the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.
וַיַּֽעֲבֹר הַמֶּלֶךְ הַגִּלְגָּלָה וְכִמְהָן עָבַר עִמּוֹ וְכָל-עַם יְהוּדָה (ויעברו) הֶעֱבִירוּ אֶת-הַמֶּלֶךְ וְגַם חֲצִי עַם יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
Then the king went on to Gilgal, and Chimham went on with him: and all the people of Judah conducted the king, and also half the people of Israel.
וְהִנֵּה כָּל-אִישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל בָּאִים אֶל-הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ אֶל-הַמֶּלֶךְ מַדּוּעַ גְּנָבוּךָ אַחֵינוּ אִישׁ יְהוּדָה וַיַּֽעֲבִרוּ אֶת-הַמֶּלֶךְ וְאֶת-בֵּיתוֹ אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן וְכָל-אַנְשֵׁי דָוִד עִמּֽוֹ׃
And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said unto the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah stolen thee away, and have brought the king, and his household, and all David's men with him, over Jordan?
כַּֽאֲשֶׁר הֹגָה מִן-הַֽמְסִלָּה עָבַר כָּל-אִישׁ אַֽחֲרֵי יוֹאָב לִרְדֹּף אַֽחֲרֵי שֶׁבַע בֶּן-בִּכְרִֽי׃
When he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.
וַֽיַּעֲבֹר בְּכָל-שִׁבְטֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אָבֵלָה וּבֵית מַֽעֲכָה וְכָל-הַבֵּרִים (ויקלהו) וַיִּקָּהֲלוּ וַיָּבֹאוּ אַף-אַֽחֲרָֽיו׃
And he went through all the tribes of Israel unto Abel, and to Beth-maachah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him.
וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן וַיַּֽחֲנוּ בַֽעֲרוֹעֵר יְמִין הָעִיר אֲשֶׁר בְּתוֹךְ-הַנַּחַל הַגָּד וְאֶל-יַעְזֵֽר׃
And they passed over Jordan, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lieth in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Jazer:
וַיַּךְ לֵב-דָּוִד אֹתוֹ אַֽחֲרֵי-כֵן סָפַר אֶת-הָעָם וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִד אֶל-יְהוָה חָטָאתִי מְאֹד אֲשֶׁר עָשִׂיתִי וְעַתָּה יְהוָה הַֽעֲבֶר-נָא אֶת-עֲוֹן עַבְדְּךָ כִּי נִסְכַּלְתִּי מְאֹֽד׃
And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.
וַיַּשְׁקֵף אֲרַוְנָה וַיַּרְא אֶת-הַמֶּלֶךְ וְאֶת-עֲבָדָיו עֹֽבְרִים עָלָיו וַיֵּצֵא אֲרַוְנָה וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ לַמֶּלֶךְ אַפָּיו אָֽרְצָה׃
And Araunah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground.
וְהָיָה׀ בְּיוֹם צֵֽאתְךָ וְעָֽבַרְתָּ אֶת-נַחַל קִדְרוֹן יָדֹעַ תֵּדַע כִּי מוֹת תָּמוּת דָּֽמְךָ יִֽהְיֶה בְרֹאשֶֽׁךָ׃
For it shall be, that on the day thou goest out, and passest over the brook Kidron, thou shalt know for certain that thou shalt surely die: thy blood shall be upon thine own head.
וַיְצַף שְׁלֹמֹה אֶת-הַבַּיִת מִפְּנִימָה זָהָב סָגוּר וַיְעַבֵּר (ברתיקות) בְּרַתּוּקוֹת זָהָב לִפְנֵי הַדְּבִיר וַיְצַפֵּהוּ זָהָֽב׃
So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold.
וְהַבַּיִת הַזֶּה יִֽהְיֶה עֶלְיוֹן כָּל-עֹבֵר עָלָיו יִשֹּׁם וְשָׁרָק וְאָֽמְרוּ עַל-מֶה עָשָׂה יְהוָה כָּכָה לָאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת וְלַבַּיִת הַזֶּֽה׃
And at this house, which is high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and to this house?
וְהִנֵּה אֲנָשִׁים עֹֽבְרִים וַיִּרְאוּ אֶת-הַנְּבֵלָה מֻשְׁלֶכֶת בַּדֶּרֶךְ וְאֶת-הָאַרְיֵה עֹמֵד אֵצֶל הַנְּבֵלָה וַיָּבֹאוּ וַיְדַבְּרוּ בָעִיר אֲשֶׁר הַנָּבִיא הַזָּקֵן יֹשֵׁב בָּֽהּ׃
And, behold, men passed by, and saw the carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing by the carcase: and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.
וַיַּֽעֲבֵר הַקְּדֵשִׁים מִן-הָאָרֶץ וַיָּסַר אֶת-כָּל-הַגִּלֻּלִים אֲשֶׁר עָשׂוּ אֲבֹתָֽיו׃
And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.
וַֽיְחַלְּקוּ לָהֶם אֶת-הָאָרֶץ לַֽעֲבָר-בָּהּ אַחְאָב הָלַךְ בְּדֶרֶךְ אֶחָד לְבַדּוֹ וְעֹֽבַדְיָהוּ הָלַךְ בְּדֶרֶךְ-אֶחָד לְבַדּֽוֹ׃
So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.
וַֽיְהִי כַּֽעֲבֹר הַֽצָּהֳרַיִם וַיִּֽתְנַבְּאוּ עַד לַֽעֲלוֹת הַמִּנְחָה וְאֵֽין-קוֹל וְאֵין-עֹנֶה וְאֵין קָֽשֶׁב׃
And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.
וַיֹּאמֶר צֵא וְעָֽמַדְתָּ בָהָר לִפְנֵי יְהוָה וְהִנֵּה יְהוָה עֹבֵר וְרוּחַ גְּדוֹלָה וְחָזָק מְפָרֵק הָרִים וּמְשַׁבֵּר סְלָעִים לִפְנֵי יְהוָה לֹא בָרוּחַ יְהוָה וְאַחַר הָרוּחַ רַעַשׁ לֹא בָרַעַשׁ יְהוָֽה׃
And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:
וַיֵּלֶךְ מִשָּׁם וַיִּמְצָא אֶת-אֱלִישָׁע בֶּן-שָׁפָט וְהוּא חֹרֵשׁ שְׁנֵים-עָשָׂר צְמָדִים לְפָנָיו וְהוּא בִּשְׁנֵים הֶֽעָשָׂר וַיַּֽעֲבֹר אֵֽלִיָּהוּ אֵלָיו וַיַּשְׁלֵךְ אַדַּרְתּוֹ אֵלָֽיו׃
So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.
וַיְהִי הַמֶּלֶךְ עֹבֵר וְהוּא צָעַק אֶל-הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיֹּאמֶר עַבְדְּךָ׀ יָצָא בְקֶֽרֶב-הַמִּלְחָמָה וְהִנֵּֽה-אִישׁ סָר וַיָּבֵא אֵלַי אִישׁ וַיֹּאמֶר שְׁמֹר אֶת-הָאִישׁ הַזֶּה אִם-הִפָּקֵד יִפָּקֵד וְהָֽיְתָה נַפְשְׁךָ תַּחַת נַפְשׁוֹ אוֹ כִכַּר-כֶּסֶף תִּשְׁקֽוֹל׃
And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.
וַיִּגַּשׁ צִדְקִיָּהוּ בֶֽן-כְּנַעֲנָה וַיַּכֶּה אֶת-מִיכָיְהוּ עַל-הַלֶּחִי וַיֹּאמֶר אֵי-זֶה עָבַר רֽוּחַ-יְהוָה מֵֽאִתִּי לְדַבֵּר אוֹתָֽךְ׃
But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?
וַיַּֽעֲבֹר הָֽרִנָּה בַּֽמַּחֲנֶה כְּבֹא הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ לֵאמֹר אִישׁ אֶל-עִירוֹ וְאִישׁ אֶל-אַרְצֽוֹ׃
And there went a proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his own country.
וַיִּקַּח אֵֽלִיָּהוּ אֶת-אַדַּרְתּוֹ וַיִּגְלֹם וַיַּכֶּה אֶת-הַמַּיִם וַיֵּֽחָצוּ הֵנָּה וָהֵנָּה וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ שְׁנֵיהֶם בֶּחָֽרָבָֽה׃
And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.
וַיְהִי כְעָבְרָם וְאֵלִיָּהוּ אָמַר אֶל-אֱלִישָׁע שְׁאַל מָה אֶֽעֱשֶׂה-לָּךְ בְּטֶרֶם אֶלָּקַח מֵֽעִמָּךְ וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלִישָׁע וִֽיהִי נָא פִּֽי-שְׁנַיִם בְּרֽוּחֲךָ אֵלָֽי׃
And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
וַיִּקַּח אֶת-אַדֶּרֶת אֵֽלִיָּהוּ אֲשֶׁר-נָֽפְלָה מֵֽעָלָיו וַיַּכֶּה אֶת-הַמַּיִם וַיֹּאמַר אַיֵּה יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי אֵֽלִיָּהוּ אַף-הוּא׀ וַיַּכֶּה אֶת-הַמַּיִם וַיֵּֽחָצוּ הֵנָּה וָהֵנָּה וַֽיַּעֲבֹר אֱלִישָֽׁע׃
And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.
וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ אֵלָיו הִנֵּה-נָא יֵֽשׁ-אֶת-עֲבָדֶיךָ חֲמִשִּׁים אֲנָשִׁים בְּנֵי-חַיִל יֵלְכוּ נָא וִֽיבַקְשׁוּ אֶת-אֲדֹנֶיךָ פֶּן-נְשָׂאוֹ רוּחַ יְהוָה וַיַּשְׁלִכֵהוּ בְּאַחַד הֶֽהָרִים אוֹ בְּאַחַת (הגיאות) הַגֵּאָיוֹת וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא תִשְׁלָֽחוּ׃
And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest peradventure the Spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.
וַיְהִי הַיּוֹם וַיַּֽעֲבֹר אֱלִישָׁע אֶל-שׁוּנֵם וְשָׁם אִשָּׁה גְדוֹלָה וַתַּֽחֲזֶק-בּוֹ לֶֽאֱכָל-לָחֶם וַֽיְהִי מִדֵּי עָבְרוֹ יָסֻר שָׁמָּה לֶֽאֱכָל-לָֽחֶם׃
And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread.
וַתֹּאמֶר אֶל-אִישָׁהּ הִנֵּה-נָא יָדַעְתִּי כִּי אִישׁ אֱלֹהִים קָדוֹשׁ הוּא עֹבֵר עָלֵינוּ תָּמִֽיד׃
And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually.
וְגֵֽחֲזִי עָבַר לִפְנֵיהֶם וַיָּשֶׂם אֶת-הַמִּשְׁעֶנֶת עַל-פְּנֵי הַנַּעַר וְאֵין קוֹל וְאֵין קָשֶׁב וַיָּשָׁב לִקְרָאתוֹ וַיַּגֶּד-לוֹ לֵאמֹר לֹא הֵקִיץ הַנָּֽעַר׃
And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Wherefore he went again to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not awaked.
וַיִּשְׁלַח אִישׁ הָֽאֱלֹהִים אֶל-מֶלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵאמֹר הִשָּׁמֶר מֵֽעֲבֹר הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה כִּי-שָׁם אֲרָם נְחִתִּֽים׃
And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.
וַֽיְהִי מֶלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל עֹבֵר עַל-הַֽחֹמָה וְאִשָּׁה צָֽעֲקָה אֵלָיו לֵאמֹר הוֹשִׁיעָה אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.
וַיְהִי כִשְׁמֹעַ הַמֶּלֶךְ אֶת-דִּבְרֵי הָֽאִשָּׁה וַיִּקְרַע אֶת-בְּגָדָיו וְהוּא עֹבֵר עַל-הַֽחֹמָה וַיַּרְא הָעָם וְהִנֵּה הַשַּׂק עַל-בְּשָׂרוֹ מִבָּֽיִת׃
And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.
וַיַּֽעֲבֹר יוֹרָם צָעִירָה וְכָל-הָרֶכֶב עִמּוֹ וַֽיְהִי-הוּא קָם לַיְלָה וַיַּכֶּה אֶת-אֱדוֹם הַסֹּבֵיב אֵלָיו וְאֵת שָׂרֵי הָרֶכֶב וַיָּנָס הָעָם לְאֹֽהָלָֽיו׃
So Joram went over to Zair, and all the chariots with him: and he rose by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots: and the people fled into their tents.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוֹאָשׁ אֶל-הַכֹּֽהֲנִים כֹּל כֶּסֶף הַקֳּדָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר-יוּבָא בֵית-יְהוָה כֶּסֶף עוֹבֵר אִישׁ כֶּסֶף נַפְשׁוֹת עֶרְכּוֹ כָּל-כֶּסֶף אֲשֶׁר יַֽעֲלֶה עַל לֶב-אִישׁ לְהָבִיא בֵּית יְהוָֽה׃
And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things that is brought into the house of the LORD, even the money of every one that passeth the account, the money that every man is set at, and all the money that cometh into any man's heart to bring into the house of the LORD,
הוּא-הִכָּה אֶת-אֱדוֹם בְּגֵי-(המלח) מֶלַח עֲשֶׂרֶת אֲלָפִים וְתָפַשׂ אֶת-הַסֶּלַע בַּמִּלְחָמָה וַיִּקְרָא אֶת-שְׁמָהּ יָקְתְאֵל עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּֽה׃
He slew of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and took Selah by war, and called the name of it Joktheel unto this day.
וַיִּשְׁלַח יְהוֹאָשׁ מֶֽלֶךְ-יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל-אֲמַצְיָהוּ מֶֽלֶךְ-יְהוּדָה לֵאמֹר הַחוֹחַ אֲשֶׁר בַּלְּבָנוֹן שָׁלַח אֶל-הָאֶרֶז אֲשֶׁר בַּלְּבָנוֹן לֵאמֹר תְּנָֽה-אֶת-בִּתְּךָ לִבְנִי לְאִשָּׁה וַֽתַּעֲבֹר חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה אֲשֶׁר בַּלְּבָנוֹן וַתִּרְמֹס אֶת-הַחֽוֹחַ׃
And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.
וַיֵּלֶךְ בְּדֶרֶךְ מַלְכֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְגַם אֶת-בְּנוֹ הֶֽעֱבִיר בָּאֵשׁ כְּתֹֽעֲבוֹת הַגּוֹיִם אֲשֶׁר הוֹרִישׁ יְהוָה אֹתָם מִפְּנֵי בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, yea, and made his son to pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel.
וַֽיַּעֲבִירוּ אֶת-בְּנֵיהֶם וְאֶת-בְּנֽוֹתֵיהֶם בָּאֵשׁ וַיִּקְסְמוּ קְסָמִים וַיְנַחֵשׁוּ וַיִּֽתְמַכְּרוּ לַֽעֲשׂוֹת הָרַע בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה לְהַכְעִיסֽוֹ׃
And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
עַל׀ אֲשֶׁר לֹֽא-שָׁמְעוּ בְּקוֹל יְהוָה אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶם וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ אֶת-בְּרִיתוֹ אֵת כָּל-אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה מֹשֶׁה עֶבֶד יְהוָה וְלֹא שָֽׁמְעוּ וְלֹא עָשֽׂוּ׃
Because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed his covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear them, nor do them.
וְהֶֽעֱבִיר אֶת-בְּנוֹ בָּאֵשׁ וְעוֹנֵן וְנִחֵשׁ וְעָשָׂה אוֹב וְיִדְּעֹנִים הִרְבָּה לַֽעֲשׂוֹת הָרַע בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה לְהַכְעִֽיס׃
And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
וְטִמֵּא אֶת-הַתֹּפֶת אֲשֶׁר בְּגֵי (בני) בֶן-הִנֹּם לְבִלְתִּי לְהַֽעֲבִיר אִישׁ אֶת-בְּנוֹ וְאֶת-בִּתּוֹ בָּאֵשׁ לַמֹּֽלֶךְ׃
And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.
וּמְעֽוֹנֹתַי הוֹלִיד אֶת-עָפְרָה וּשְׂרָיָה הוֹלִיד אֶת-יוֹאָב אֲבִי גֵּיא חֲרָשִׁים כִּי חֲרָשִׁים הָיֽוּ׃
And Meonothai begat Ophrah: and Seraiah begat Joab, the father of the valley of Charashim; for they were craftsmen.
וַיֵּֽלְכוּ לִמְבוֹא גְדֹר עַד לְמִזְרַח הַגָּיְא לְבַקֵּשׁ מִרְעֶה לְצֹאנָֽם׃
And they went to the entrance of Gedor, even unto the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks.
אֵלֶּה הֵם אֲשֶׁר עָֽבְרוּ אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן בַּחֹדֶשׁ הָֽרִאשׁוֹן וְהוּא מְמַלֵּא עַל-כָּל-(גדיתיו) גְּדוֹתָיו וַיַּבְרִיחוּ אֶת-כָּל-הָעֲמָקִים לַמִּזְרָח וְלַֽמַּעֲרָֽב׃
These are they that went over Jordan in the first month, when it had overflown all his banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west.
וְאַבְשַׁי בֶּן-צְרוּיָה הִכָּה אֶת-אֱדוֹם בְּגֵיא הַמֶּלַח שְׁמוֹנָה עָשָׂר אָֽלֶף׃
Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand.
וַיֻּגַּד לְדָוִיד וַיֶּֽאֱסֹף אֶת-כָּל-יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיַּֽעֲבֹר הַיַּרְדֵּן וַיָּבֹא אֲלֵהֶם וַֽיַּעֲרֹךְ אֲלֵהֶם וַיַּֽעֲרֹךְ דָּוִיד לִקְרַאת אֲרָם מִלְחָמָה וַיִּֽלָּחֲמוּ עִמּֽוֹ׃
And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel, and passed over Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.
וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִיד אֶל-הָאֱלֹהִים חָטָאתִֽי מְאֹד אֲשֶׁר עָשִׂיתִי אֶת-הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה וְעַתָּה הַֽעֲבֶר-נָא אֶת-עֲווֹן עַבְדְּךָ כִּי נִסְכַּלְתִּי מְאֹֽד׃
And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.
עִם כָּל-מַלְכוּתוֹ וּגְבוּרָתוֹ וְהָעִתִּים אֲשֶׁר עָבְרוּ עָלָיו וְעַל-יִשְׂרָאֵל וְעַל כָּל-מַמְלְכוֹת הָאֲרָצֽוֹת׃
With all his reign and his might, and the times that went over him, and over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of the countries.
וְהַבַּיִת הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר הָיָה עֶלְיוֹן לְכָל-עֹבֵר עָלָיו יִשֹּׁם וְאָמַר בַּמֶּה עָשָׂה יְהוָה כָּכָה לָאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת וְלַבַּיִת הַזֶּֽה׃
And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and unto this house?
וַיֵּצֵא אָסָא לְפָנָיו וַיַּֽעַרְכוּ מִלְחָמָה בְּגֵיא צְפַתָה לְמָֽרֵשָֽׁה׃
Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
וְכִשְׁמֹעַ אָסָא הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וְהַנְּבוּאָה עֹדֵד הַנָּבִיא הִתְחַזַּק וַיַּֽעֲבֵר הַשִּׁקּוּצִים מִכָּל-אֶרֶץ יְהוּדָה וּבִנְיָמִן וּמִן-הֶעָרִים אֲשֶׁר לָכַד מֵהַר אֶפְרָיִם וַיְחַדֵּשׁ אֶת-מִזְבַּח יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר לִפְנֵי אוּלָם יְהוָֽה׃
And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the porch of the LORD.
וַיִּגַּשׁ צִדְקִיָּהוּ בֶֽן-כְּנַעֲנָה וַיַּךְ אֶת-מִיכָיְהוּ עַל-הַלֶּחִי וַיֹּאמֶר אֵי זֶה הַדֶּרֶךְ עָבַר רֽוּחַ-יְהוָה מֵֽאִתִּי לְדַבֵּר אֹתָֽךְ׃
Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah upon the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?
וַיַּֽעֲבֹר יְהוֹרָם עִם-שָׂרָיו וְכָל-הָרֶכֶב עִמּוֹ וַֽיְהִי קָם לַיְלָה וַיַּךְ אֶת-אֱדוֹם הַסּוֹבֵב אֵלָיו וְאֵת שָׂרֵי הָרָֽכֶב׃
Then Jehoram went forth with his princes, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed in, him and the captains of the chariots.
וְרוּחַ אֱלֹהִים לָֽבְשָׁה אֶת-זְכַרְיָה בֶּן-יְהֽוֹיָדָע הַכֹּהֵן וַֽיַּעֲמֹד מֵעַל לָעָם וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם כֹּה׀ אָמַר הָֽאֱלֹהִים לָמָה אַתֶּם עֹֽבְרִים אֶת-מִצְוֹת יְהוָה וְלֹא תַצְלִיחוּ כִּֽי-עֲזַבְתֶּם אֶת-יְהוָה וַיַּֽעֲזֹב אֶתְכֶֽם׃
And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you.
וַֽאֲמַצְיָהוּ הִתְחַזַּק וַיִּנְהַג אֶת-עַמּוֹ וַיֵּלֶךְ גֵּיא הַמֶּלַח וַיַּךְ אֶת-בְּנֵֽי-שֵׂעִיר עֲשֶׂרֶת אֲלָפִֽים׃
And Amaziah strengthened himself, and led forth his people, and went to the valley of salt, and smote of the children of Seir ten thousand.
