But I say, that the things which the with Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship devils.
Περὶ τῆς βρώσεως οὖν τῶν εἰδωλοθύτων οἴδαμεν ὅτι οὐδὲν εἴδωλον ἐν κόσμῳ καὶ ὅτι οὐδεὶς θεὸς ἕτερος εἰ μὴ εἷς
As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
Ἀλλ' οὐκ ἐν πᾶσιν ἡ γνῶσις· τινὲς δὲ τῇ συνειδήσει τοῦ εἰδώλου ἕως ἄρτι ὡς εἰδωλόθυτον ἐσθίουσιν καὶ ἡ συνείδησις αὐτῶν ἀσθενὴς οὖσα μολύνεται
Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
οἶδα καὶ πέπεισμαι ἐν κυρίῳ Ἰησοῦ ὅτι οὐδὲν κοινὸν δι' ἑαυτοῦ εἰ μὴ τῷ λογιζομένῳ τι κοινὸν εἶναι ἐκείνῳ κοινόν
I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
Περὶ δὲ τῶν εἰδωλοθύτων οἴδαμεν ὅτι πάντες γνῶσιν ἔχομεν ἡ γνῶσις φυσιοῖ ἡ δὲ ἀγάπη οἰκοδομεῖ·
Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
וַתִּקְרֶאןָ לָעָם לְזִבְחֵי אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶן וַיֹּאכַל הָעָם וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲווּ לֵֽאלֹהֵיהֶֽן׃
And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.
וְעַל-בְּגָדִים חֲבֻלִים יַטּוּ אֵצֶל כָּל-מִזְבֵּחַ וְיֵין עֲנוּשִׁים יִשְׁתּוּ בֵּית אֱלֹהֵיהֶֽם׃
And they lay themselves down upon clothes laid to pledge by every altar, and they drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their god.
וַיֵּֽצְאוּ הַשָּׂדֶה וַֽיִּבְצְרוּ אֶת-כַּרְמֵיהֶם וַֽיִּדְרְכוּ וַֽיַּעֲשׂוּ הִלּוּלִים וַיָּבֹאוּ בֵּית אֱֽלֹהֵיהֶם וַיֹּֽאכְלוּ וַיִּשְׁתּוּ וַֽיְקַלְלוּ אֶת-אֲבִימֶֽלֶךְ׃
