One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

διάκονοι ἔστωσαν μιᾶς γυναικὸς ἄνδρες τέκνων καλῶς προϊστάμενοι καὶ τῶν ἰδίων οἴκων
Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
כִּי יְדַעְתִּיו לְמַעַן אֲשֶׁר יְצַוֶּה אֶת-בָּנָיו וְאֶת-בֵּיתוֹ אַֽחֲרָיו וְשָֽׁמְרוּ דֶּרֶךְ יְהוָה לַֽעֲשׂוֹת צְדָקָה וּמִשְׁפָּט לְמַעַן הָבִיא יְהוָה עַל-אַבְרָהָם אֵת אֲשֶׁר-דִּבֶּר עָלָֽיו׃
For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
πρεσβύτας νηφαλίους εἶναι σεμνούς σώφρονας ὑγιαίνοντας τῇ πίστει τῇ ἀγάπῃ τῇ ὑπομονῇ·
That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
וְאִם רַע בְּֽעֵינֵיכֶם לַֽעֲבֹד אֶת-יְהוָה בַּֽחֲרוּ לָכֶם הַיּוֹם אֶת-מִי תַֽעֲבֹדוּן אִם אֶת-אֱלֹהִים אֲשֶׁר-עָֽבְדוּ אֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶם אֲשֶׁר (בעבר) מֵעֵבֶר הַנָּהָר וְאִם אֶת-אֱלֹהֵי הָֽאֱמֹרִי אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם יֹֽשְׁבִים בְּאַרְצָם וְאָֽנֹכִי וּבֵיתִי נַֽעֲבֹד אֶת-יְהוָֽה׃
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
εὐσεβὴς καὶ φοβούμενος τὸν θεὸν σὺν παντὶ τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ ποιῶν τε ἐλεημοσύνας πολλὰς τῷ λαῷ καὶ δεόμενος τοῦ θεοῦ διαπαντός
A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the to people, and prayed God alway.
περὶ πάντα σεαυτὸν παρεχόμενος τύπον καλῶν ἔργων ἐν τῇ διδασκαλίᾳ ἀδιἀφθορίαν σεμνότητα ἀφθαρσιαν
In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,
אַשְׂכִּילָה׀ בְּדֶרֶךְ תָּמִים מָתַי תָּבוֹא אֵלָי אֶתְהַלֵּךְ בְּתָם-לְבָבִי בְּקֶרֶב בֵּיתִֽי׃
I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.
Τὸ λοιπόν ἀδελφοί ὅσα ἐστὶν ἀληθῆ ὅσα σεμνά ὅσα δίκαια ὅσα ἁγνά ὅσα προσφιλῆ ὅσα εὔφημα εἴ τις ἀρετὴ καὶ εἴ τις ἔπαινος ταῦτα λογίζεσθε·
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
