If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
δεῖ οὖν τὸν ἐπίσκοπον ἀνεπίληπτον εἶναι μιᾶς γυναικὸς ἄνδρα νηφάλεον σώφρονα κόσμιον φιλόξενον διδακτικόν
A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
נוֹצֵר תּוֹרָה בֵּן מֵבִין וְרֹעֶה זֽוֹלְלִים יַכְלִים אָבִֽיו׃
Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.
כִּי יְדַעְתִּיו לְמַעַן אֲשֶׁר יְצַוֶּה אֶת-בָּנָיו וְאֶת-בֵּיתוֹ אַֽחֲרָיו וְשָֽׁמְרוּ דֶּרֶךְ יְהוָה לַֽעֲשׂוֹת צְדָקָה וּמִשְׁפָּט לְמַעַן הָבִיא יְהוָה עַל-אַבְרָהָם אֵת אֲשֶׁר-דִּבֶּר עָלָֽיו׃
For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
καὶ μὴ μεθύσκεσθε οἴνῳ ἐν ᾧ ἐστιν ἀσωτία ἀλλὰ πληροῦσθε ἐν πνεύματι
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
וְאַלְמָנָה וּגְרוּשָׁה לֹֽא-יִקְחוּ לָהֶם לְנָשִׁים כִּי אִם-בְּתוּלֹת מִזֶּרַע בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל וְהָֽאַלְמָנָה אֲשֶׁר תִּֽהְיֶה אַלְמָנָה מִכֹּהֵן יִקָּֽחוּ׃
Neither shall they take for their wives a widow, nor her that is put away: but they shall take maidens of the seed of the house of Israel, or a widow that had a priest before.
וְלֹא-אֶחָד עָשָׂה וּשְׁאָר רוּחַ לוֹ וּמָה הָֽאֶחָד מְבַקֵּשׁ זֶרַע אֱלֹהִים וְנִשְׁמַרְתֶּם בְּרוּחֲכֶם וּבְאֵשֶׁת נְעוּרֶיךָ אַל-יִבְגֹּֽד׃
And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.
וַיֵּלֶךְ אֶלְקָנָה הָֽרָמָתָה עַל-בֵּיתוֹ וְהַנַּעַר הָיָה מְשָׁרֵת אֶת-יְהוָה אֶת-פְּנֵי עֵלִי הַכֹּהֵֽן׃
And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the LORD before Eli the priest.
בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא אָקִים אֶל-עֵלִי אֵת כָּל-אֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתִּי אֶל-בֵּיתוֹ הָחֵל וְכַלֵּֽה׃
In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.
אִשָּׁה זֹנָה וַֽחֲלָלָה לֹא יִקָּחוּ וְאִשָּׁה גְּרוּשָׁה מֵֽאִישָׁהּ לֹא יִקָּחוּ כִּֽי-קָדֹשׁ הוּא לֵֽאלֹהָֽיו׃
They shall not take a wife that is a whore, or profane; neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband: for he is holy unto his God.
לָמָּה תִבְעֲטוּ בְּזִבְחִי וּבְמִנְחָתִי אֲשֶׁר צִוִּיתִי מָעוֹן וַתְּכַבֵּד אֶת-בָּנֶיךָ מִמֶּנִּי לְהַבְרִֽיאֲכֶם מֵֽרֵאשִׁית כָּל-מִנְחַת יִשְׂרָאֵל לְעַמִּֽי׃
Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?
אַלְמָנָה וּגְרוּשָׁה וַֽחֲלָלָה זֹנָה אֶת-אֵלֶּה לֹא יִקָּח כִּי אִם-בְּתוּלָה מֵֽעַמָּיו יִקַּח אִשָּֽׁה׃
A widow, or a divorced woman, or profane, or an harlot, these shall he not take: but he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife.
וְעֵלִי זָקֵן מְאֹד וְשָׁמַע אֵת כָּל-אֲשֶׁר יַֽעֲשׂוּן בָּנָיו לְכָל-יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאֵת אֲשֶֽׁר-יִשְׁכְּבוּן אֶת-הַנָּשִׁים הַצֹּבְאוֹת פֶּתַח אֹהֶל מוֹעֵֽד׃
Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
παρακαλοῦμεν δὲ ὑμᾶς ἀδελφοί νουθετεῖτε τοὺς ἀτάκτους παραμυθεῖσθε τοὺς ὀλιγοψύχους ἀντέχεσθε τῶν ἀσθενῶν μακροθυμεῖτε πρὸς πάντας
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
Εἰσὶν γὰρ πολλοὶ καὶ ἀνυπότακτοι ματαιολόγοι καὶ φρεναπάται μάλιστα οἱ ἐκ περιτομῆς
For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
Ἐγένετο ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις Ἡρῴδου τοῦ βασιλέως τῆς Ἰουδαίας ἱερεύς τις ὀνόματι Ζαχαρίας ἐξ ἐφημερίας Ἀβιά καὶ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ ἐκ τῶν θυγατέρων Ἀαρών καὶ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτῆς Ἐλισάβετ
There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
