Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.
τὴν δὲ δοκιμὴν αὐτοῦ γινώσκετε ὅτι ὡς πατρὶ τέκνον σὺν ἐμοὶ ἐδούλευσεν εἰς τὸ εὐαγγέλιον
But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.
ἄρα εἰ καὶ ἔγραψα ὑμῖν οὐχ εἵνεκεν τοῦ ἀδικήσαντος οὐδὲ εἵνεκεν τοῦ ἀδικηθέντος ἀλλ' εἵνεκεν τοῦ φανερωθῆναι τὴν σπουδὴν ὑμῶν τὴν ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ
Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our you care for in the sight of God might appear unto you.
τὴν οὖν ἔνδειξιν τῆς ἀγάπης ὑμῶν καὶ ἡμῶν καυχήσεως ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν εἰς αὐτοὺς ἐνδειξασθε καὶ εἰς πρόσωπον τῶν ἐκκλησιῶν
Wherefore shew ye to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf.
וְזָֽכַרְתָּ אֶת-כָּל-הַדֶּרֶךְ אֲשֶׁר הוֹלִֽיכְךָ יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ זֶה אַרְבָּעִים שָׁנָה בַּמִּדְבָּר לְמַעַן עַנֹּֽתְךָ לְנַסֹּֽתְךָ לָדַעַת אֶת-אֲשֶׁר בִּֽלְבָבְךָ הֲתִשְׁמֹר (מצותו) מִצְוֺתָיו אִם-לֹֽא׃
And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה הִנְנִי מַמְטִיר לָכֶם לֶחֶם מִן-הַשָּׁמָיִם וְיָצָא הָעָם וְלָֽקְטוּ דְּבַר-יוֹם בְּיוֹמוֹ לְמַעַן אֲנַסֶּנּוּ הֲיֵלֵךְ בְּתֽוֹרָתִי אִם-לֹֽא׃
Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
לֹא תִשְׁמַע אֶל-דִּבְרֵי הַנָּבִיא הַהוּא אוֹ אֶל-חוֹלֵם הַֽחֲלוֹם הַהוּא כִּי מְנַסֶּה יְהוָה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם אֶתְכֶם לָדַעַת הֲיִשְׁכֶם אֹֽהֲבִים אֶת-יְהוָה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם בְּכָל-לְבַבְכֶם וּבְכָל-נַפְשְׁכֶֽם׃
Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
הַמַּאֲכִלְךָ מָן בַּמִּדְבָּר אֲשֶׁר לֹֽא-יָדְעוּן אֲבֹתֶיךָ לְמַעַן עַנֹּֽתְךָ וּלְמַעַן נַסֹּתֶךָ לְהֵיטִֽבְךָ בְּאַֽחֲרִיתֶֽךָ׃
Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;
εἰ δέ τις οὐχ ὑπακούει τῷ λόγῳ ἡμῶν διὰ τῆς ἐπιστολῆς τοῦτον σημειοῦσθε καὶ μὴ συναναμίγνυσθε αὐτῷ ἵνα ἐντραπῇ·
And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no with company him, that he may be ashamed.
Ὥστε ἀγαπητοί μου καθὼς πάντοτε ὑπηκούσατε μὴ ὡς ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ μου μόνον ἀλλὰ νῦν πολλῷ μᾶλλον ἐν τῇ ἀπουσίᾳ μου μετὰ φόβου καὶ τρόμου τὴν ἑαυτῶν σωτηρίαν κατεργάζεσθε·
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
