וַיַּכֶּה פַשְׁחוּר אֵת יִרְמְיָהוּ הַנָּבִיא וַיִּתֵּן אֹתוֹ עַל-הַמַּהְפֶּכֶת אֲשֶׁר בְּשַׁעַר בִּנְיָמִן הָֽעֶלְיוֹן אֲשֶׁר בְּבֵית יְהוָֽה׃
Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD.
וַיִּקַּח אֲדֹנֵי יוֹסֵף אֹתוֹ וַֽיִּתְּנֵהוּ אֶל-בֵּית הַסֹּהַר מְקוֹם אֲשֶׁר-(אסורי) אֲסִירֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ אֲסוּרִים וַֽיְהִי-שָׁם בְּבֵית הַסֹּֽהַר׃
And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.
וַיִּקְצְפוּ הַשָּׂרִים עַֽל-יִרְמְיָהוּ וְהִכּוּ אֹתוֹ וְנָתְנוּ אוֹתוֹ בֵּית הָאֵסוּר בֵּית יְהוֹנָתָן הַסֹּפֵר כִּֽי-אֹתוֹ עָשׂוּ לְבֵית הַכֶּֽלֶא׃
Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.
וַיִּֽהְיוּ הָֽרָצִים עֹֽבְרִים מֵעִיר׀ לָעִיר בְּאֶֽרֶץ-אֶפְרַיִם וּמְנַשֶּׁה וְעַד-זְבֻלוּן וַיִּֽהְיוּ מַשְׂחִיקִים עֲלֵיהֶם וּמַלְעִגִים בָּֽם׃
So the posts passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh even unto Zebulun: but they laughed them to scorn, and mocked them.
פִּתִּיתַנִי יְהוָה וָֽאֶפָּת חֲזַקְתַּנִי וַתּוּכָל הָיִיתִי לִשְׂחוֹק כָּל-הַיּוֹם כֻּלֹּה לֹעֵג לִֽי׃
O LORD, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived: thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me.
וְאָז חֵיל מֶלֶךְ בָּבֶל צָרִים עַל-יְרוּשָׁלִָם וְיִרְמְיָהוּ הַנָּבִיא הָיָה כָלוּא בַּחֲצַר הַמַּטָּרָה אֲשֶׁר בֵּֽית-מֶלֶךְ יְהוּדָֽה׃
For then the king of Babylon's army besieged Jerusalem: and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Judah's house.
וַיִּכְעַס אָסָא אֶל-הָֽרֹאֶה וַֽיִּתְּנֵהוּ בֵּית הַמַּהְפֶּכֶת כִּֽי-בְזַעַף עִמּוֹ עַל-זֹאת וַיְרַצֵּץ אָסָא מִן-הָעָם בָּעֵת הַהִֽיא׃
Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.
καὶ γὰρ τοῖς δεσμοῖς μου συνεπαθήσατε καὶ τὴν ἁρπαγὴν τῶν ὑπαρχόντων ὑμῶν μετὰ χαρᾶς προσεδέξασθε γινώσκοντες ἔχειν ἐν ἑαυτοῖς κρείττονα ὕπαρξιν ἐν οὐρανοῖς καὶ μένουσαν
For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.
διὰ τοῦτο ἰδού ἐγὼ ἀποστέλλω πρὸς ὑμᾶς προφήτας καὶ σοφοὺς καὶ γραμματεῖς· καὶ ἐξ αὐτῶν ἀποκτενεῖτε καὶ σταυρώσετε καὶ ἐξ αὐτῶν μαστιγώσετε ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς ὑμῶν καὶ διώξετε ἀπὸ πόλεως εἰς πόλιν·
Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
צוֹד צָדוּנִי כַּצִּפּוֹר אֹיְבַי חִנָּֽם׃
Mine enemies chased me sore, like a bird, without cause.
ἐνέπαιζον δὲ αὐτῷ καὶ οἱ στρατιῶται προσερχόμενοι καὶ ὄξος προσφέροντες αὐτῷ
And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,
καὶ ἐμπαίξουσιν αὐτῷ καὶ μαστιγώσουσιν αὐτὸν καὶ ἐμπτύσουσιν αὐτῷ καὶ ἀποκτενοῦσιν αὐτὸν καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἀναστήσεται
And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.
καὶ συνεπέστη ὁ ὄχλος κατ' αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ στρατηγοὶ περιῤῥήξαντες αὐτῶν τὰ ἱμάτια ἐκέλευον ῥαβδίζειν
And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.
יְהוָה נְתָנְךָ כֹהֵן תַּחַת יְהוֹיָדָע הַכֹּהֵן לִֽהְיוֹת פְּקִדִים בֵּית יְהוָה לְכָל-אִישׁ מְשֻׁגָּע וּמִתְנַבֵּא וְנָתַתָּה אֹתוֹ אֶל-הַמַּהְפֶּכֶת וְאֶל-הַצִּינֹֽק׃
The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.
וְאָֽמַרְתָּ כֹּה אָמַר הַמֶּלֶךְ שִׂימוּ אֶת-זֶה בֵּית הַכֶּלֶא וְהַאֲכִלֻהוּ לֶחֶם לַחַץ וּמַיִם לַחַץ עַד בֹּאִי בְשָׁלֽוֹם׃
And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.
ἐξουθενήσας δὲ αὐτὸν ὁ Ἡρῴδης σὺν τοῖς στρατεύμασιν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐμπαίξας περιβαλὼν αὐτὸν ἐσθῆτα λαμπρὰν ἀνέπεμψεν αὐτὸν τῷ Πιλάτῳ
And Herod with his men of war set at nought, him and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent again him to Pilate.
וַיִּֽהְיוּ מַלְעִבִים בְּמַלְאֲכֵי הָֽאֱלֹהִים וּבוֹזִים דְּבָרָיו וּמִֽתַּעְתְּעִים בִּנְבִאָיו עַד עֲלוֹת חֲמַת-יְהוָה בְּעַמּוֹ עַד-לְאֵין מַרְפֵּֽא׃
But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.
παραδοθήσεται γὰρ τοῖς ἔθνεσιν καὶ ἐμπαιχθήσεται καὶ ὑβρισθήσεται καὶ ἐμπτυσθήσεται
For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:
καὶ λαβόντες οἱ γεωργοὶ τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ ὃν μὲν ἔδειραν ὃν δὲ ἀπέκτειναν ὃν δὲ ἐλιθοβόλησαν
And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.
וַיֵּשֶׁב יִרְמְיָהוּ בַּחֲצַר הַמַּטָּרָה עַד-יוֹם אֲשֶׁר-נִלְכְּדָה יְרוּשָׁלִָם וְהָיָה כַּאֲשֶׁר נִלְכְּדָה יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃
So Jeremiah abode in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken: and he was there when Jerusalem was taken.
