They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
Ἀπεκρίθησαν καὶ εἶπον αὐτῷ Ὁ πατὴρ ἡμῶν Ἀβραάμ ἐστιν λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς Εἰ τέκνα τοῦ Ἀβραάμ ἦτε τὰ ἔργα τοῦ Ἀβραὰμ ἐποιεῖτε ἄν
They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
וְיֵשׁ אֲשֶׁר אֹֽמְרִים לָוִינוּ כֶסֶף לְמִדַּת הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׂדֹתֵינוּ וּכְרָמֵֽינוּ׃
There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king's tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards.
וַיֹּאמֶר לְאַבְרָם יָדֹעַ תֵּדַע כִּי-גֵר׀ יִֽהְיֶה זַרְעֲךָ בְּאֶרֶץ לֹא לָהֶם וַֽעֲבָדוּם וְעִנּוּ אֹתָם אַרְבַּע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָֽה׃
And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
וַֽתִּתְּנֵם בְּיַד צָֽרֵיהֶם וַיָּצֵרוּ לָהֶם וּבְעֵת צָֽרָתָם יִצְעֲקוּ אֵלֶיךָ וְאַתָּה מִשָּׁמַיִם תִּשְׁמָע וּֽכְרַחֲמֶיךָ הָֽרַבִּים תִּתֵּן לָהֶם מֽוֹשִׁיעִים וְיֽוֹשִׁיעוּם מִיַּד צָֽרֵיהֶֽם׃
Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their enemies, who vexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies.
οἶδα ὅτι σπέρμα Ἀβραάμ ἐστε· ἀλλὰ ζητεῖτέ με ἀποκτεῖναι ὅτι ὁ λόγος ὁ ἐμὸς οὐ χωρεῖ ἐν ὑμῖν
I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
καὶ αὐτὸς φωνήσας εἶπεν Πάτερ Ἀβραάμ ἐλέησόν με καὶ πέμψον Λάζαρον ἵνα βάψῃ τὸ ἄκρον τοῦ δακτύλου αὐτοῦ ὕδατος καὶ καταψύξῃ τὴν γλῶσσάν μου ὅτι ὀδυνῶμαι ἐν τῇ φλογὶ ταύτῃ
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
וַיִּֽחַר-אַף יְהוָה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וַֽיִּמְכְּרֵם בְּיַד כּוּשַׁן רִשְׁעָתַיִם מֶלֶךְ אֲרַם נַֽהֲרָיִם וַיַּֽעַבְדוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת-כּוּשַׁן רִשְׁעָתַיִם שְׁמֹנֶה שָׁנִֽים׃
Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushan-rishathaim eight years.
כִּֽי-עֲבָדַי הֵם אֲשֶׁר-הוֹצֵאתִי אֹתָם מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם לֹא יִמָּֽכְרוּ מִמְכֶּרֶת עָֽבֶד׃
For they are my servants, which I brought forth out of the land of Egypt: they shall not be sold as bondmen.
וְכִֽי-הֵקִים יְהוָה׀ לָהֶם שֹֽׁפְטִים וְהָיָה יְהוָה עִם-הַשֹּׁפֵט וְהֽוֹשִׁיעָם מִיַּד אֹֽיְבֵיהֶם כֹּל יְמֵי הַשּׁוֹפֵט כִּֽי-יִנָּחֵם יְהוָה מִנַּֽאֲקָתָם מִפְּנֵי לֹֽחֲצֵיהֶם וְדֹֽחֲקֵיהֶֽם׃
And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented the LORD because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.
כִּֽי-עֲבָדִים אֲנַחְנוּ וּבְעַבְדֻתֵנוּ לֹא עֲזָבָנוּ אֱלֹהֵינוּ וַֽיַּט-עָלֵינוּ חֶסֶד לִפְנֵי מַלְכֵי פָרַס לָֽתֶת-לָנוּ מִֽחְיָה לְרוֹמֵם אֶת-בֵּית אֱלֹהֵינוּ וּלְהַֽעֲמִיד אֶת-חָרְבֹתָיו וְלָֽתֶת-לָנוּ גָדֵר בִּֽיהוּדָה וּבִירֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃
For we were bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the desolations thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.
εἱστήκεισαν δὲ παρὰ τῷ σταυρῷ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ ἡ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡ ἀδελφὴ τῆς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ Μαρία ἡ τοῦ Κλωπᾶ καὶ Μαρία ἡ Μαγδαληνή
Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
וַיַּֽעֲבִדוּ מִצְרַיִם אֶת-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּפָֽרֶךְ׃
And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:
הִנֵּה אֲנַחְנוּ הַיּוֹם עֲבָדִים וְהָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר-נָתַתָּה לַֽאֲבֹתֵינוּ לֶֽאֱכֹל אֶת-פִּרְיָהּ וְאֶת-טוּבָהּ הִנֵּה אֲנַחְנוּ עֲבָדִים עָלֶֽיהָ׃
Behold, we are servants this day, and for the land that thou gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof, behold, we are servants in it:
וַיִּצְעֲקוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל-יְהוָה כִּי תְּשַׁע מֵאוֹת רֶֽכֶב-בַּרְזֶל לוֹ וְהוּא לָחַץ אֶת-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּחָזְקָה עֶשְׂרִים שָׁנָֽה׃
And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.
