Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?
וַיֹּאמֶר אִם-נָא מָצָאתִי חֵן בְּעֵינֶיךָ אֲדֹנָי יֵֽלֶךְ-נָא אֲדֹנָי בְּקִרְבֵּנוּ כִּי עַם-קְשֵׁה-עֹרֶף הוּא וְסָֽלַחְתָּ לַֽעֲוֹנֵנוּ וּלְחַטָּאתֵנוּ וּנְחַלְתָּֽנוּ׃
And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance.
εἴ πως παραζηλώσω μου τὴν σάρκα καὶ σώσω τινὰς ἐξ αὐτῶν
If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֵלַי אִם-יַעֲמֹד מֹשֶׁה וּשְׁמוּאֵל לְפָנַי אֵין נַפְשִׁי אֶל-הָעָם הַזֶּה שַׁלַּח מֵֽעַל-פָּנַי וְיֵצֵֽאוּ׃
Then said the LORD unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast out them of my sight, and let them go forth.

הַיְשֻׁלַּם תַּֽחַת-טוֹבָה רָעָה כִּֽי-כָרוּ שׁוּחָה לְנַפְשִׁי זְכֹר׀ עָמְדִי לְפָנֶיךָ לְדַבֵּר עֲלֵיהֶם טוֹבָה לְהָשִׁיב אֶת-חֲמָתְךָ מֵהֶֽם׃
Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them, and to turn away thy wrath from them.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה עַד-אָנָה יְנַֽאֲצֻנִי הָעָם הַזֶּה וְעַד-אָנָה לֹֽא-יַאֲמִינוּ בִי בְּכֹל הָֽאֹתוֹת אֲשֶׁר עָשִׂיתִי בְּקִרְבּֽוֹ׃
And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?
וַיְחַל מֹשֶׁה אֶת-פְּנֵי יְהוָה אֱלֹהָיו וַיֹּאמֶר לָמָה יְהוָה יֶֽחֱרֶה אַפְּךָ בְּעַמֶּךָ אֲשֶׁר הוֹצֵאתָ מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם בְּכֹחַ גָּדוֹל וּבְיָד חֲזָקָֽה׃
And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?
וָאֹמַר אֲהָהּ׀ אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה הִנֵּה הַנְּבִאִים אֹמְרִים לָהֶם לֹֽא-תִרְאוּ חֶרֶב וְרָעָב לֹֽא-יִהְיֶה לָכֶם כִּֽי-שְׁלוֹם אֱמֶת אֶתֵּן לָכֶם בַּמָּקוֹם הַזֶּֽה׃
Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.
וַֽיְהִי מִֽמָּחֳרָת וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל-הָעָם אַתֶּם חֲטָאתֶם חֲטָאָה גְדֹלָה וְעַתָּה אֶֽעֱלֶה אֶל-יְהוָה אוּלַי אֲכַפְּרָה בְּעַד חַטַּאתְכֶֽם׃
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.
