For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.

For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath provoked very many.
Ἐν ταύταις δὲ ταῖς ἡμέραις κατῆλθον ἀπὸ Ἱεροσολύμων προφῆται εἰς Ἀντιόχειαν
And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.
Ἀκούσατε ἀδελφοί μου ἀγαπητοί· οὐχ ὁ θεὸς ἐξελέξατο τοὺς πτωχοὺς τοῦ κόσμου τούτου πλουσίους ἐν πίστει καὶ κληρονόμους τῆς βασιλείας ἡς ἐπηγγείλατο τοῖς ἀγαπῶσιν αὐτόν
Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
ὅτι ἡ διακονία τῆς λειτουργίας ταύτης οὐ μόνον ἐστὶν προσαναπληροῦσα τὰ ὑστερήματα τῶν ἁγίων ἀλλὰ καὶ περισσεύουσα διὰ πολλῶν εὐχαριστιῶν τῷ θεῷ
For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God;
בָּז-לְרֵעֵהוּ חוֹטֵא וּמְחוֹנֵן (עניים) עֲנָוִים אַשְׁרָֽיו׃
He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.
Καὶ αὐτὸς ἐπάρας τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ εἰς τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ ἔλεγεν Μακάριοι οἱ πτωχοί ὅτι ὑμετέρα ἐστὶν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ
And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
לֹעֵג לָרָשׁ חֵרֵף עֹשֵׂהוּ שָׂמֵחַ לְאֵיד לֹא יִנָּקֶֽה׃
Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.
ἀλλ' ὅταν ποιῇς δοχὴν κάλει πτωχούς ἀναπήρους χωλούς τυφλούς·
But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:
καὶ ὅραμα διὰ τῆς νυκτὸς ὤφθη τῷ Παύλῳ ἀνὴρ τις ἦν Μακεδών ἑστὼς παρακαλῶν αὐτὸν καὶ λέγων Διαβὰς εἰς Μακεδονίαν βοήθησον ἡμῖν
And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.
Κοινωνείτω δὲ ὁ κατηχούμενος τὸν λόγον τῷ κατηχοῦντι ἐν πᾶσιν ἀγαθοῖς
Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.
וָֽאֶרְעֶה אֶת-צֹאן הַֽהֲרֵגָה לָכֵן עֲנִיֵּי הַצֹּאן וָאֶקַּֽח-לִי שְׁנֵי מַקְלוֹת לְאַחַד קָרָאתִי נֹעַם וּלְאַחַד קָרָאתִי חֹֽבְלִים וָאֶרְעֶה אֶת-הַצֹּֽאן׃
And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock.
Παρακαλῶ δὲ ὑμᾶς ἀδελφοί· οἴδατε τὴν οἰκίαν Στεφανᾶ ὅτι ἐστὶν ἀπαρχὴ τῆς Ἀχαΐας καὶ εἰς διακονίαν τοῖς ἁγίοις ἔταξαν ἑαυτούς·
I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,)
Γαλλίωνος δὲ ἀνθυπατεύοντος τῆς Ἀχαΐας κατεπέστησαν ὁμοθυμαδὸν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι τῷ Παύλῳ καὶ ἤγαγον αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸ βῆμα
And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,
πάντοτε γὰρ τοὺς πτωχοὺς ἔχετε μεθ'' ἑαυτῶν ἐμὲ δὲ οὐ πάντοτε ἔχετε·
For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.
καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐρεῖ αὐτοῖς Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ἐφ' ὅσον ἐποιήσατε ἑνὶ τούτων τῶν ἀδελφῶν μου τῶν ἐλαχίστων ἐμοὶ ἐποιήσατε
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
ἀκούων σου τὴν ἀγάπην καὶ τὴν πίστιν ἣν ἔχεις πρὸς τὸν Κύριον Ἰησοῦν καὶ εἰς πάντας τοὺς ἁγίους
Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;
עֹשֵֽׁק דָּל חֵרֵף עֹשֵׂהוּ וּמְכַבְּדוֹ חֹנֵן אֶבְיֽוֹן׃
He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.
וַתֻּפַר בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא וַיֵּדְעוּ כֵן עֲנִיֵּי הַצֹּאן הַשֹּׁמְרִים אֹתִי כִּי דְבַר-יְהוָה הֽוּא׃
And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD.
