Bearing with the weak and welcoming one another (continued)
Ὀφείλομεν δὲ ἡμεῖς οἱ δυνατοὶ τὰ ἀσθενήματα τῶν ἀδυνάτων βαστάζειν καὶ μὴ ἑαυτοῖς ἀρέσκειν
We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
ἕκαστος γάρ ἡμῶν τῷ πλησίον ἀρεσκέτω εἰς τὸ ἀγαθὸν πρὸς οἰκοδομήν·
Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.
καὶ γὰρ ὁ Χριστὸς οὐχ ἑαυτῷ ἤρεσεν· ἀλλὰ καθὼς γέγραπται Οἱ ὀνειδισμοὶ τῶν ὀνειδιζόντων σε ἐπέπεσον ἐπ' ἐμέ
For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.
ὅσα γὰρ προεγράφη εἰς τὴν ἡμετέραν διδασκαλίαν προεγράφη ἵνα διὰ τῆς ὑπομονῆς καὶ τῆς παρακλήσεως τῶν γραφῶν τὴν ἐλπίδα ἔχωμεν
For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through might patience and comfort of the scriptures have hope.
ὁ δὲ θεὸς τῆς ὑπομονῆς καὶ τῆς παρακλήσεως δῴη ὑμῖν τὸ αὐτὸ φρονεῖν ἐν ἀλλήλοις κατὰ Χριστὸν Ἰησοῦν
Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:
ἵνα ὁμοθυμαδὸν ἐν ἑνὶ στόματι δοξάζητε τὸν θεὸν καὶ πατέρα τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ
That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Διὸ προσλαμβάνεσθε ἀλλήλους καθὼς καὶ ὁ Χριστὸς προσελάβετο ἡμᾶς εἰς δόξαν θεοῦ
Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.
Christ a minister to Jews and Gentiles
λέγω δὲ Ἰησοῦν Χριστὸν διάκονον γεγενῆσθαι περιτομῆς ὑπὲρ ἀληθείας θεοῦ εἰς τὸ βεβαιῶσαι τὰς ἐπαγγελίας τῶν πατέρων
Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:
τὰ δὲ ἔθνη ὑπὲρ ἐλέους δοξάσαι τὸν θεόν καθὼς γέγραπται Διὰ τοῦτο ἐξομολογήσομαί σοι ἐν ἔθνεσιν καὶ τῷ ὀνόματί σου ψαλῶ
And that the might Gentiles glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name.
καὶ πάλιν λέγει Εὐφράνθητε ἔθνη μετὰ τοῦ λαοῦ αὐτοῦ
And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people.
καὶ πάλιν Αἰνεῖτε τὸν κύριον πάντα τὰ ἔθνη καὶ ἐπαινέσατε αὐτὸν πάντες οἱ λαοί
And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people.
καὶ πάλιν Ἠσαΐας λέγει Ἔσται ἡ ῥίζα τοῦ Ἰεσσαί καὶ ὁ ἀνιστάμενος ἄρχειν ἐθνῶν ἐπ' αὐτῷ ἔθνη ἐλπιοῦσιν
And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust.
ὁ δὲ θεὸς τῆς ἐλπίδος πληρώσαι ὑμᾶς πάσης χαρᾶς καὶ εἰρήνης ἐν τῷ πιστεύειν εἰς τὸ περισσεύειν ὑμᾶς ἐν τῇ ἐλπίδι ἐν δυνάμει πνεύματος ἁγίου
Now the of God hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
Paul's ministry to the Gentiles
Πέπεισμαι δέ ἀδελφοί μου καὶ αὐτὸς ἐγὼ περὶ ὑμῶν ὅτι καὶ αὐτοὶ μεστοί ἐστε ἀγαθωσύνης πεπληρωμένοι πάσης γνώσεως δυνάμενοι καὶ ἀλλήλους νουθετεῖν
And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.
τολμηρότερον δὲ ἔγραψα ὑμῖν ἀδελφοί ἀπὸ μέρους ὡς ἐπαναμιμνῄσκων ὑμᾶς διὰ τὴν χάριν τὴν δοθεῖσάν μοι ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ
Nevertheless, brethren, I have written the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting in mind, you because of the grace that is given to me of God,
εἰς τὸ εἶναί με λειτουργὸν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ εἰς τὰ ἔθνη ἱερουργοῦντα τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τοῦ θεοῦ ἵνα γένηται ἡ προσφορὰ τῶν ἐθνῶν εὐπρόσδεκτος ἡγιασμένη ἐν πνεύματι ἁγίῳ
That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the might Gentiles be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.
ἔχω οὖν καύχησιν ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ τὰ πρὸς θεόν·
I have therefore whereof I may glory in through Jesus Christ those things which pertain to God.
οὐ γὰρ τολμήσω λαλεῖν τι ὧν οὐ κατειργάσατο Χριστὸς δι' ἐμοῦ εἰς ὑπακοὴν ἐθνῶν λόγῳ καὶ ἔργῳ
For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed,
ἐν δυνάμει σημείων καὶ τεράτων ἐν δυνάμει πνεύματος θεοῦ· ὥστε με ἀπὸ Ἰερουσαλὴμ καὶ κύκλῳ μέχρι τοῦ Ἰλλυρικοῦ πεπληρωκέναι τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τοῦ Χριστοῦ
Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.
οὕτως δὲ φιλοτιμούμενον εὐαγγελίζεσθαι οὐχ ὅπου ὠνομάσθη Χριστός ἵνα μὴ ἐπ' ἀλλότριον θεμέλιον οἰκοδομῶ
Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's foundation:
ἀλλὰ καθὼς γέγραπται Οἷς οὐκ ἀνηγγέλη περὶ αὐτοῦ ὄψονται καὶ οἳ οὐκ ἀκηκόασιν συνήσουσιν
But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand.
Paul's plan to visit Rome and Spain
Διὸ καὶ ἐνεκοπτόμην τὰ πολλὰ τοῦ ἐλθεῖν πρὸς ὑμᾶς·
For which cause also I have been much hindered from coming to you.
νυνὶ δὲ μηκέτι τόπον ἔχων ἐν τοῖς κλίμασιν τούτοις ἐπιποθίαν δὲ ἔχων τοῦ ἐλθεῖν πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ πολλῶν ἐτῶν
But now having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come unto you;
ὡς ἐὰν πορεύωμαι εἰς τὴν Σπανίαν· ἐλεύσομαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐλπίζω γὰρ διαπορευόμενος θεάσασθαι ὑμας καὶ ὑφ' ὑμῶν προπεμφθῆναι ἐκεῖ ἐὰν ὑμῶν πρῶτον ἀπὸ μέρους ἐμπλησθῶ
Whensoever I take my journey into Spain, I will come to you: for I trust to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you, if first I be with somewhat filled your company.
νυνὶ δὲ πορεύομαι εἰς Ἰερουσαλὴμ διακονῶν τοῖς ἁγίοις
But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the saints.
εὐδόκησαν γὰρ Μακεδονία καὶ Ἀχαΐα κοινωνίαν τινὰ ποιήσασθαι εἰς τοὺς πτωχοὺς τῶν ἁγίων τῶν ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ
For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.
εὐδόκησαν γάρ καὶ ὀφειλέται αὐτῶν· εἰσὶν εἰ γὰρ τοῖς πνευματικοῖς αὐτῶν ἐκοινώνησαν τὰ ἔθνη ὀφείλουσιν καὶ ἐν τοῖς σαρκικοῖς λειτουργῆσαι αὐτοῖς
It hath pleased them verily; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them in carnal things.
τοῦτο οὖν ἐπιτελέσας καὶ σφραγισάμενος αὐτοῖς τὸν καρπὸν τοῦτον ἀπελεύσομαι δι' ὑμῶν εἰς τὴν Σπανίαν·
When therefore I have performed this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will come by you into Spain.
οἶδα δὲ ὅτι ἐρχόμενος πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐν πληρώματι εὐλογίας τοῦ εὐαγγελίου τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐλεύσομαι
And I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.
Παρακαλῶ δὲ ὑμᾶς ἀδελφοί διὰ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ καὶ διὰ τῆς ἀγάπης τοῦ πνεύματος συναγωνίσασθαί μοι ἐν ταῖς προσευχαῖς ὑπὲρ ἐμοῦ πρὸς τὸν θεόν
Now I beseech you, brethren, for sake, the Lord Jesus Christ's and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;
ἵνα ῥυσθῶ ἀπὸ τῶν ἀπειθούντων ἐν τῇ Ἰουδαίᾳ καὶ ἵνα ἡ διακονία μου ἡ εἰς Ἰερουσαλὴμ εὐπρόσδεκτος γένηται τοῖς ἁγίοις
That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints;
ἵνα ἐν χαρᾷ ἔλθω πρὸς ὑμᾶς διὰ θελήματος θεοῦ καὶ συναναπαύσωμαι ὑμῖν
That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed.
