And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
סָֽפְקוּ עָלַיִךְ כַּפַּיִם כָּל-עֹבְרֵי דֶרֶךְ שָֽׁרְקוּ וַיָּנִעוּ רֹאשָׁם עַל-בַּת יְרוּשָׁלִָם הֲזֹאת הָעִיר שֶׁיֹּֽאמְרוּ כְּלִילַת יֹפִי מָשׂוֹשׂ לְכָל-הָאָֽרֶץ׃
All that pass by clap their hands at thee; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, Is this the city that men call The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth?
λόγον ὑγιῆ ἀκατάγνωστον ἵνα ὁ ἐξ ἐναντίας ἐντραπῇ μηδὲν ἔχων περὶ ὑμῶν λέγειν φαῦλον
Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.
אֶפֶס כִּֽי-נִאֵץ נִאַצְתָּ אֶת-אֹֽיְבֵי יְהוָה בַּדָּבָר הַזֶּה גַּם הַבֵּן הַיִּלּוֹד לְךָ מוֹת יָמֽוּת׃
Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.
σώφρονας ἁγνάς οἰκουρούς ἀγαθάς ὑποτασσομένας τοῖς ἰδίοις ἀνδράσιν ἵνα μὴ ὁ λόγος τοῦ θεοῦ βλασφημῆται
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Ὅσοι εἰσὶν ὑπὸ ζυγὸν δοῦλοι τοὺς ἰδίους δεσπότας πάσης τιμῆς ἀξίους ἡγείσθωσαν ἵνα μὴ τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἡ διδασκαλία βλασφημῆται
Let as many as servants are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.
οὐαὶ τῷ κόσμῳ ἀπὸ τῶν σκανδάλων· ἀνάγκη γάρ ἐστιν ἐλθεῖν τὰ σκάνδαλα πλὴν οὐαὶ τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ ἐκείνῳ δι' οὗ τὸ σκάνδαλον ἔρχεται
Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!
βούλομαι οὖν νεωτέρας γαμεῖν τεκνογονεῖν οἰκοδεσποτεῖν μηδεμίαν ἀφορμὴν διδόναι τῷ ἀντικειμένῳ λοιδορίας χάριν·
I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
