Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
הֲלוֹא אִם-תֵּיטִיב שְׂאֵת וְאִם לֹא תֵיטִיב לַפֶּתַח חַטָּאת רֹבֵץ וְאֵלֶיךָ תְּשׁוּקָתוֹ וְאַתָּה תִּמְשָׁל-בּֽוֹ׃
If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
וַיֵּרַע בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה וַיָּמֶת גַּם-אֹתֽוֹ׃
And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.
וַיְהִי עֵר בְּכוֹר יְהוּדָה רַע בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה וַיְמִתֵהוּ יְהוָֽה׃
And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.
טֶרֶם יִשְׁכָּבוּ וְאַנְשֵׁי הָעִיר אַנְשֵׁי סְדֹם נָסַבּוּ עַל-הַבַּיִת מִנַּעַר וְעַד-זָקֵן כָּל-הָעָם מִקָּצֶֽה׃
But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:
וַיַּרְא יְהוָה כִּי רַבָּה רָעַת הָאָדָם בָּאָרֶץ וְכָל-יֵצֶר מַחְשְׁבֹת לִבּוֹ רַק רַע כָּל-הַיּֽוֹם׃
And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
וַיָּרַח יְהוָה אֶת-רֵיחַ הַנִּיחֹחַ וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-לִבּוֹ לֹֽא-אֹסִף לְקַלֵּל עוֹד אֶת-הָֽאֲדָמָה בַּֽעֲבוּר הָֽאָדָם כִּי יֵצֶר לֵב הָֽאָדָם רַע מִנְּעֻרָיו וְלֹֽא-אֹסִף עוֹד לְהַכּוֹת אֶת-כָּל-חַי כַּֽאֲשֶׁר עָשִֽׂיתִי׃
And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה זַֽעֲקַת סְדֹם וַֽעֲמֹרָה כִּי-רָבָּה וְחַטָּאתָם כִּי כָֽבְדָה מְאֹֽד׃
And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;
וְאַנְשֵׁי סְדֹם רָעִים וְחַטָּאִים לַֽיהוָה מְאֹֽד׃
But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.
וַתִּשָּׁחֵת הָאָרֶץ לִפְנֵי הָֽאֱלֹהִים וַתִּמָּלֵא הָאָרֶץ חָמָֽס׃
The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
ἡμεῖς οἴδαμεν ὅτι μεταβεβήκαμεν ἐκ τοῦ θανάτου εἰς τὴν ζωήν ὅτι ἀγαπῶμεν τοὺς ἀδελφούς· ὁ μὴ ἀγαπῶν τὸν ἀδελφόν μένει ἐν τῷ θανάτῳ
We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
לְכָה נַשְׁקֶה אֶת-אָבִינוּ יַיִן וְנִשְׁכְּבָה עִמּוֹ וּנְחַיֶּה מֵֽאָבִינוּ זָֽרַע׃
Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
וַֽתַּהֲרֶיןָ שְׁתֵּי בְנֽוֹת-לוֹט מֵֽאֲבִיהֶֽן׃
Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.
