זֹאת נַֽחֲלַת מַטֵּה בְנֵֽי-נַפְתָּלִי לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם הֶֽעָרִים וְחַצְרֵיהֶֽן׃
This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Naphtali according to their families, the cities and their villages.
לְמַטֵּה בְנֵי-דָן לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם יָצָא הַגּוֹרָל הַשְּׁבִיעִֽי׃
And the seventh lot came out for the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families.
וַיֵּצֵא גְבוּל-בְּנֵי-דָן מֵהֶם וַיַּֽעֲלוּ בְנֵי-דָן וַיִּלָּֽחֲמוּ עִם-לֶשֶׁם וַיִּלְכְּדוּ אוֹתָהּ׀ וַיַּכּוּ אוֹתָהּ לְפִי-חֶרֶב וַיִּֽרְשׁוּ אוֹתָהּ וַיֵּשְׁבוּ בָהּ וַיִּקְרְאוּ לְלֶשֶׁם דָּן כְּשֵׁם דָּן אֲבִיהֶֽם׃
And the coast of the children of Dan went out too little for them: therefore the children of Dan went up to fight against Leshem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and possessed it, and dwelt therein, and called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.
זֹאת נַֽחֲלַת מַטֵּה בְנֵי-דָן לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם הֶֽעָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וְחַצְרֵיהֶֽן׃
This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families, these cities with their villages.
וַיְכַלּוּ לִנְחֹל-אֶת-הָאָרֶץ לִגְבֽוּלֹתֶיהָ וַיִּתְּנוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל נַֽחֲלָה לִֽיהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן-נוּן בְּתוֹכָֽם׃
When they had made an end of dividing the land for inheritance by their coasts, the children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of Nun among them:
אֵלֶּה הַנְּחָלֹת אֲשֶׁר נִֽחֲלוּ אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן׀ וִֽיהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן-נוּן וְרָאשֵׁי הָֽאָבוֹת לְמַטּוֹת בְּנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל׀ בְּגוֹרָל׀ בְּשִׁלֹה לִפְנֵי יְהוָה פֶּתַח אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וַיְכַלּוּ מֵֽחַלֵּק אֶת-הָאָֽרֶץ׃
These are the inheritances, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, divided for an inheritance by lot in Shiloh before the LORD, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. So they made an end of dividing the country.
דַּבֵּר אֶל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵאמֹר תְּנוּ לָכֶם אֶת-עָרֵי הַמִּקְלָט אֲשֶׁר-דִּבַּרְתִּי אֲלֵיכֶם בְּיַד-מֹשֶֽׁה׃
Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:
אֵלֶּה הָיוּ עָרֵי הַמּֽוּעָדָה לְכֹל׀ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְלַגֵּר הַגָּר בְּתוֹכָם לָנוּס שָׁמָּה כָּל-מַכֵּה-נֶפֶשׁ בִּשְׁגָגָה וְלֹא יָמוּת בְּיַד גֹּאֵל הַדָּם עַד-עָמְדוֹ לִפְנֵי הָֽעֵדָֽה׃
These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.
וַֽיִּגְּשׁוּ רָאשֵׁי אֲבוֹת הַלְוִיִּם אֶל-אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן וְאֶל-יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן-נוּן וְאֶל-רָאשֵׁי אֲבוֹת הַמַּטּוֹת לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
Then came near the heads of the fathers of the Levites unto Eleazar the priest, and unto Joshua the son of Nun, and unto the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel;
וַיִּתְּנוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל לַלְוִיִּם מִנַּֽחֲלָתָם אֶל-פִּי יְהוָה אֶת-הֶֽעָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וְאֶת-מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶֽן׃
And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance, at the commandment of the LORD, these cities and their suburbs.
וַיֵּצֵא הַגּוֹרָל לְמִשְׁפְּחֹת הַקְּהָתִי וַיְהִי לִבְנֵי אַֽהֲרֹן הַכֹּהֵן מִן-הַלְוִיִּם מִמַּטֵּה יְהוּדָה וּמִמַּטֵּה הַשִּׁמְעֹנִי וּמִמַּטֵּה בִנְיָמִן בַּגּוֹרָל עָרִים שְׁלֹשׁ עֶשְׂרֵֽה׃
And the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites: and the children of Aaron the priest, which were of the Levites, had by lot out of the tribe of Judah, and out of the tribe of Simeon, and out of the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities.
וְלִבְנֵי קְהָת הַנּֽוֹתָרִים מִמִּשְׁפְּחֹת מַטֵּֽה-אֶפְרַיִם וּֽמִמַּטֵּה-דָן וּמֵֽחֲצִי מַטֵּה מְנַשֶּׁה בַּגּוֹרָל עָרִים עָֽשֶׂר׃
And the rest of the children of Kohath had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim, and out of the tribe of Dan, and out of the half tribe of Manasseh, ten cities.
וְלִבְנֵי גֵֽרְשׁוֹן מִמִּשְׁפְּחוֹת מַטֵּֽה-יִשָּׂשכָר וּמִמַּטֵּֽה-אָשֵׁר וּמִמַּטֵּה נַפְתָּלִי וּמֵֽחֲצִי מַטֵּה מְנַשֶּׁה בַבָּשָׁן בַּגּוֹרָל עָרִים שְׁלֹשׁ עֶשְׂרֵֽה׃
And the children of Gershon had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the half tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities.
לִבְנֵי מְרָרִי לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם מִמַּטֵּה רְאוּבֵן וּמִמַּטֵּה-גָד וּמִמַּטֵּה זְבוּלֻן עָרִים שְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵֽה׃
The children of Merari by their families had out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.
וַיִּתְּנוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל לַלְוִיִּם אֶת-הֶֽעָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וְאֶת-מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶן כַּֽאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה בְּיַד-מֹשֶׁה בַּגּוֹרָֽל׃
And the children of Israel gave by lot unto the Levites these cities with their suburbs, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses.
וַֽיִּתְּנוּ מִמַּטֵּה בְּנֵי יְהוּדָה וּמִמַּטֵּה בְּנֵי שִׁמְעוֹן אֵת הֶֽעָרִים הָאֵלֶּה אֲשֶׁר-יִקְרָא אֶתְהֶן בְּשֵֽׁם׃
And they gave out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, these cities which are here mentioned by name,
וַֽיְהִי לִבְנֵי אַֽהֲרֹן מִמִּשְׁפְּחוֹת הַקְּהָתִי מִבְּנֵי לֵוִי כִּי לָהֶם הָיָה הַגּוֹרָל רִֽאישֹׁנָֽה׃
Which the children of Aaron, being of the families of the Kohathites, who were of the children of Levi, had: for theirs was the first lot.
וְאֶת-שְׂדֵה הָעִיר וְאֶת-חֲצֵרֶיהָ נָֽתְנוּ לְכָלֵב בֶּן-יְפֻנֶּה בַּֽאֲחֻזָּתֽוֹ׃
But the fields of the city, and the villages thereof, gave they to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for his possession.
וְלִבְנֵי׀ אַֽהֲרֹן הַכֹּהֵן נָֽתְנוּ אֶת-עִיר מִקְלַט הָֽרֹצֵחַ אֶת-חֶבְרוֹן וְאֶת-מִגְרָשֶׁהָ וְאֶת-לִבְנָה וְאֶת-מִגְרָשֶֽׁהָ׃
Thus they gave to the children of Aaron the priest Hebron with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Libnah with her suburbs,
כָּל-עָרֵי בְנֵֽי-אַהֲרֹן הַכֹּֽהֲנִים שְׁלֹשׁ-עֶשְׂרֵה עָרִים וּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶֽן׃
All the cities of the children of Aaron, the priests, were thirteen cities with their suburbs.
וּלְמִשְׁפְּחוֹת בְּנֵֽי-קְהָת הַלְוִיִּם הַנּֽוֹתָרִים מִבְּנֵי קְהָת וַֽיְהִי עָרֵי גֽוֹרָלָם מִמַּטֵּה אֶפְרָֽיִם׃
And the families of the children of Kohath, the Levites which remained of the children of Kohath, even they had the cities of their lot out of the tribe of Ephraim.
כָּל-עָרִים עֶשֶׂר וּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶן לְמִשְׁפְּחוֹת בְּנֵֽי-קְהָת הַנּֽוֹתָרִֽים׃
All the cities were ten with their suburbs for the families of the children of Kohath that remained.
וְלִבְנֵי גֵֽרְשׁוֹן מִמִּשְׁפְּחֹת הַלְוִיִּם מֵֽחֲצִי מַטֵּה מְנַשֶּׁה אֶת-עִיר מִקְלַט הָֽרֹצֵחַ אֶת-(גלון) גּוֹלָן בַּבָּשָׁן וְאֶת-מִגְרָשֶׁהָ וְאֶת-בְּעֶשְׁתְּרָה וְאֶת-מִגְרָשֶׁהָ עָרִים שְׁתָּֽיִם׃
And unto the children of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of the other half tribe of Manasseh they gave Golan in Bashan with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Beesh-terah with her suburbs; two cities.
וּלְמִשְׁפְּחוֹת בְּנֵֽי-מְרָרִי הַלְוִיִּם הַנּֽוֹתָרִים מֵאֵת מַטֵּה זְבוּלֻן אֶֽת-יָקְנְעָם וְאֶת-מִגְרָשֶׁהָ אֶת-קַרְתָּה וְאֶת-מִגְרָשֶֽׁהָ׃
And unto the families of the children of Merari, the rest of the Levites, out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with her suburbs, and Kartah with her suburbs,
כָּל-הֶעָרִים לִבְנֵי מְרָרִי לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם הַנּֽוֹתָרִים מִמִּשְׁפְּחוֹת הַלְוִיִּם וַֽיְהִי גּֽוֹרָלָם עָרִים שְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵֽה׃
So all the cities for the children of Merari by their families, which were remaining of the families of the Levites, were by their lot twelve cities.
כֹּל עָרֵי הַלְוִיִּם בְּתוֹךְ אֲחֻזַּת בְּנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל עָרִים אַרְבָּעִים וּשְׁמֹנֶה וּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶֽן׃
All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty and eight cities with their suburbs.
וַיָּשֻׁבוּ וַיֵּֽלְכוּ בְּנֵֽי-רְאוּבֵן וּבְנֵי-גָד וַֽחֲצִי׀ שֵׁבֶט הַֽמְנַשֶּׁה מֵאֵת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מִשִּׁלֹה אֲשֶׁר בְּאֶֽרֶץ-כְּנָעַן לָלֶכֶת אֶל-אֶרֶץ הַגִּלְעָד אֶל-אֶרֶץ אֲחֻזָּתָם אֲשֶׁר נֹֽאחֲזוּ-בָהּ עַל-פִּי יְהוָה בְּיַד-מֹשֶֽׁה׃
And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go unto the country of Gilead, to the land of their possession, whereof they were possessed, according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
וַיָּבֹאוּ אֶל-גְּלִילוֹת הַיַּרְדֵּן אֲשֶׁר בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנָעַן וַיִּבְנוּ בְנֵֽי-רְאוּבֵן וּבְנֵי-גָד וַֽחֲצִי שֵׁבֶט הַֽמְנַשֶּׁה שָׁם מִזְבֵּחַ עַל-הַיַּרְדֵּן מִזְבֵּחַ גָּדוֹל לְמַרְאֶֽה׃
And when they came unto the borders of Jordan, that are in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by Jordan, a great altar to see to.
וַיִּשְׁמְעוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵאמֹר הִנֵּה בָנוּ בְנֵֽי-רְאוּבֵן וּבְנֵי-גָד וַֽחֲצִי שֵׁבֶט הַֽמְנַשֶּׁה אֶת-הַמִּזְבֵּחַ אֶל-מוּל אֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן אֶל-גְּלִילוֹת הַיַּרְדֵּן אֶל-עֵבֶר בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
And the children of Israel heard say, Behold, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh have built an altar over against the land of Canaan, in the borders of Jordan, at the passage of the children of Israel.
וַֽיִּשְׁמְעוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּקָּהֲלוּ כָּל-עֲדַת בְּנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל שִׁלֹה לַֽעֲלוֹת עֲלֵיהֶם לַצָּבָֽא׃
And when the children of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up to war against them.
וַיִּשְׁלְחוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל-בְּנֵֽי-רְאוּבֵן וְאֶל-בְּנֵי-גָד וְאֶל-חֲצִי שֵֽׁבֶט-מְנַשֶּׁה אֶל-אֶרֶץ הַגִּלְעָד אֶת-פִּֽינְחָס בֶּן-אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵֽן׃
And the children of Israel sent unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasseh, into the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest,
וַיָּבֹאוּ אֶל-בְּנֵֽי-רְאוּבֵן וְאֶל-בְּנֵי-גָד וְאֶל-חֲצִי שֵֽׁבֶט-מְנַשֶּׁה אֶל-אֶרֶץ הַגִּלְעָד וַיְדַבְּרוּ אִתָּם לֵאמֹֽר׃
And they came unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasseh, unto the land of Gilead, and they spake with them, saying,
הֲלוֹא׀ עָכָן בֶּן-זֶרַח מָעַל מַעַל בַּחֵרֶם וְעַֽל-כָּל-עֲדַת יִשְׂרָאֵל הָיָה קָצֶף וְהוּא אִישׁ אֶחָד לֹא גָוַע בַּֽעֲוֹנֽוֹ׃
Did not Achan the son of Zerah commit a trespass in the accursed thing, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? and that man perished not alone in his iniquity.
וַֽיַּעֲנוּ בְּנֵֽי-רְאוּבֵן וּבְנֵי-גָד וַֽחֲצִי שֵׁבֶט הַֽמְנַשֶּׁה וַֽיְדַבְּרוּ אֶת-רָאשֵׁי אַלְפֵי יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
Then the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh answered, and said unto the heads of the thousands of Israel,
וְאִם-לֹא מִדְּאָגָה מִדָּבָר עָשִׂינוּ אֶת-זֹאת לֵאמֹר מָחָר יֹֽאמְרוּ בְנֵיכֶם לְבָנֵינוּ לֵאמֹר מַה-לָּכֶם וְלַֽיהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
And if we have not rather done it for fear of this thing, saying, In time to come your children might speak unto our children, saying, What have ye to do with the LORD God of Israel?
וּגְבוּל נָֽתַן-יְהוָה בֵּינֵנוּ וּבֵֽינֵיכֶם בְּנֵֽי-רְאוּבֵן וּבְנֵי-גָד אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן אֵין-לָכֶם חֵלֶק בַּֽיהוָה וְהִשְׁבִּיתוּ בְנֵיכֶם אֶת-בָּנֵינוּ לְבִלְתִּי יְרֹא אֶת-יְהוָֽה׃
For the LORD hath made Jordan a border between us and you, ye children of Reuben and children of Gad; ye have no part in the LORD: so shall your children make our children cease from fearing the LORD.
כִּי עֵד הוּא בֵּינֵינוּ וּבֵֽינֵיכֶם וּבֵין דֹּֽרוֹתֵינוּ אַֽחֲרֵינוּ לַֽעֲבֹד אֶת-עֲבֹדַת יְהוָה לְפָנָיו בְּעֹֽלוֹתֵינוּ וּבִזְבָחֵינוּ וּבִשְׁלָמֵינוּ וְלֹֽא-יֹאמְרוּ בְנֵיכֶם מָחָר לְבָנֵינוּ אֵין-לָכֶם חֵלֶק בַּֽיהוָֽה׃
But that it may be a witness between us, and you, and our generations after us, that we might do the service of the LORD before him with our burnt offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace offerings; that your children may not say to our children in time to come, Ye have no part in the LORD.
וַיִּשְׁמַע פִּֽינְחָס הַכֹּהֵן וּנְשִׂיאֵי הָֽעֵדָה וְרָאשֵׁי אַלְפֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר אִתּוֹ אֶת-הַדְּבָרִים אֲשֶׁר דִּבְּרוּ בְּנֵֽי-רְאוּבֵן וּבְנֵי-גָד וּבְנֵי מְנַשֶּׁה וַיִּיטַב בְּעֵֽינֵיהֶֽם׃
And when Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the congregation and heads of the thousands of Israel which were with him, heard the words that the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh spake, it pleased them.
וַיֹּאמֶר פִּֽינְחָס בֶּן-אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן אֶל-בְּנֵֽי-רְאוּבֵן וְאֶל-בְּנֵי-גָד וְאֶל-בְּנֵי מְנַשֶּׁה הַיּוֹם׀ יָדַעְנוּ כִּֽי-בְתוֹכֵנוּ יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר לֹֽא-מְעַלְתֶּם בַּֽיהוָה הַמַּעַל הַזֶּה אָז הִצַּלְתֶּם אֶת-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מִיַּד יְהוָֽה׃
And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the children of Manasseh, This day we perceive that the LORD is among us, because ye have not committed this trespass against the LORD: now ye have delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of the LORD.
וַיָּשָׁב פִּֽינְחָס בֶּן-אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן׀ וְהַנְּשִׂיאִים מֵאֵת בְּנֵֽי-רְאוּבֵן וּמֵאֵת בְּנֵי-גָד מֵאֶרֶץ הַגִּלְעָד אֶל-אֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן אֶל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיָּשִׁבוּ אוֹתָם דָּבָֽר׃
And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, returned from the children of Reuben, and from the children of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, unto the land of Canaan, to the children of Israel, and brought them word again.
וַיִּיטַב הַדָּבָר בְּעֵינֵי בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיְבָֽרְכוּ אֱלֹהִים בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְלֹא אָֽמְרוּ לַֽעֲלוֹת עֲלֵיהֶם לַצָּבָא לְשַׁחֵת אֶת-הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר בְּנֵֽי-רְאוּבֵן וּבְנֵי-גָד יֹֽשְׁבִים בָּֽהּ׃
And the thing pleased the children of Israel; and the children of Israel blessed God, and did not intend to go up against them in battle, to destroy the land wherein the children of Reuben and Gad dwelt.
וַֽיִּקְרְאוּ בְּנֵֽי-רְאוּבֵן וּבְנֵי-גָד לַמִּזְבֵּחַ כִּי עֵד הוּא בֵּֽינֹתֵינוּ כִּי יְהוָה הָֽאֱלֹהִֽים׃
And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad called the altar Ed: for it shall be a witness between us that the LORD is God.
וָֽאֶתֵּן לְיִצְחָק אֶֽת-יַעֲקֹב וְאֶת-עֵשָׂו וָֽאֶתֵּן לְעֵשָׂו אֶת-הַר שֵׂעִיר לָרֶשֶׁת אוֹתוֹ וְיַֽעֲקֹב וּבָנָיו יָֽרְדוּ מִצְרָֽיִם׃
And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.
וַיָּקָם בָּלָק בֶּן-צִפּוֹר מֶלֶךְ מוֹאָב וַיִּלָּחֶם בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּשְׁלַח וַיִּקְרָא לְבִלְעָם בֶּן-בְּעוֹר לְקַלֵּל אֶתְכֶֽם׃
Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you:
וַֽיְהִי אַֽחֲרֵי הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וַיָּמָת יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן-נוּן עֶבֶד יְהוָה בֶּן-מֵאָה וָעֶשֶׂר שָׁנִֽים׃
And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.
וְאֶת-עַצְמוֹת יוֹסֵף אֲשֶׁר-הֶֽעֱלוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל׀ מִמִּצְרַיִם קָֽבְרוּ בִשְׁכֶם בְּחֶלְקַת הַשָּׂדֶה אֲשֶׁר קָנָה יַֽעֲקֹב מֵאֵת בְּנֵֽי-חֲמוֹר אֲבִֽי-שְׁכֶם בְּמֵאָה קְשִׂיטָה וַיִּֽהְיוּ לִבְנֵֽי-יוֹסֵף לְנַֽחֲלָֽה׃
And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.
וְאֶלְעָזָר בֶּֽן-אַהֲרֹן מֵת וַיִּקְבְּרוּ אֹתוֹ בְּגִבְעַת פִּֽינְחָס בְּנוֹ אֲשֶׁר נִתַּן-לוֹ בְּהַר אֶפְרָֽיִם׃
And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in a hill that pertained to Phinehas his son, which was given him in mount Ephraim.
וַֽיְהִי אַֽחֲרֵי מוֹת יְהוֹשֻׁעַ וַֽיִּשְׁאֲלוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בַּֽיהוָה לֵאמֹר מִי יַֽעֲלֶה-לָּנוּ אֶל-הַֽכְּנַעֲנִי בַּתְּחִלָּה לְהִלָּחֶם בּֽוֹ׃
Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?
וַיִּלָּֽחֲמוּ בְנֵֽי-יְהוּדָה בִּירוּשָׁלִַם וַיִּלְכְּדוּ אוֹתָהּ וַיַּכּוּהָ לְפִי-חָרֶב וְאֶת-הָעִיר שִׁלְּחוּ בָאֵֽשׁ׃
Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
וְאַחַר יָֽרְדוּ בְּנֵי יְהוּדָה לְהִלָּחֵם בַּֽכְּנַעֲנִי יוֹשֵׁב הָהָר וְהַנֶּגֶב וְהַשְּׁפֵלָֽה׃
And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.
וַֽיִּלְכְּדָהּ עָתְנִיאֵל בֶּן-קְנַז אֲחִי כָלֵב הַקָּטֹן מִמֶּנּוּ וַיִּתֶּן-לוֹ אֶת-עַכְסָה בִתּוֹ לְאִשָּֽׁה׃
And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
וּבְנֵי קֵינִי חֹתֵן מֹשֶׁה עָלוּ מֵעִיר הַתְּמָרִים אֶת-בְּנֵי יְהוּדָה מִדְבַּר יְהוּדָה אֲשֶׁר בְּנֶגֶב עֲרָד וַיֵּלֶךְ וַיֵּשֶׁב אֶת-הָעָֽם׃
And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.
וַיִּתְּנוּ לְכָלֵב אֶת-חֶבְרוֹן כַּֽאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר מֹשֶׁה וַיּוֹרֶשׁ מִשָּׁם אֶת-שְׁלֹשָׁה בְּנֵי הָֽעֲנָֽק׃
And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.
וְאֶת-הַיְבוּסִי יֹשֵׁב יְרֽוּשָׁלִַם לֹא הוֹרִישׁוּ בְּנֵי בִנְיָמִן וַיֵּשֶׁב הַיְבוּסִי אֶת-בְּנֵי בִנְיָמִן בִּירוּשָׁלִַם עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּֽה׃
And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.
וַיִּלְחֲצוּ הָֽאֱמֹרִי אֶת-בְּנֵי-דָן הָהָרָה כִּי-לֹא נְתָנוֹ לָרֶדֶת לָעֵֽמֶק׃
And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:
וַיְהִי כְּדַבֵּר מַלְאַךְ יְהוָה אֶת-הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה אֶֽל-כָּל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּשְׂאוּ הָעָם אֶת-קוֹלָם וַיִּבְכּֽוּ׃
And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.
וַיְשַׁלַּח יְהוֹשֻׁעַ אֶת-הָעָם וַיֵּֽלְכוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל אִישׁ לְנַֽחֲלָתוֹ לָרֶשֶׁת אֶת-הָאָֽרֶץ׃
And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.
וַיָּמָת יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן-נוּן עֶבֶד יְהוָה בֶּן-מֵאָה וָעֶשֶׂר שָׁנִֽים׃
And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.
וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת-הָרַע בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה וַיַּֽעַבְדוּ אֶת-הַבְּעָלִֽים׃
And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim:
רַק לְמַעַן דַּעַת דֹּרוֹת בְּנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל לְלַמְּדָם מִלְחָמָה רַק אֲשֶׁר-לְפָנִים לֹא יְדָעֽוּם׃
Only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof;
וּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל יָֽשְׁבוּ בְּקֶרֶב הַֽכְּנַעֲנִי הַֽחִתִּי וְהָֽאֱמֹרִי וְהַפְּרִזִּי וְהַֽחִוִּי וְהַיְבוּסִֽי׃
And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites, and Perizzites, and Hivites, and Jebusites:
וַיִּקְחוּ אֶת-בְּנֽוֹתֵיהֶם לָהֶם לְנָשִׁים וְאֶת-בְּנֽוֹתֵיהֶם נָֽתְנוּ לִבְנֵיהֶם וַיַּֽעַבְדוּ אֶת-אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶֽם׃
And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons, and served their gods.
וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת-הָרַע בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה וַֽיִּשְׁכְּחוּ אֶת-יְהוָה אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶם וַיַּֽעַבְדוּ אֶת-הַבְּעָלִים וְאֶת-הָֽאֲשֵׁרֽוֹת׃
And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgat the LORD their God, and served Baalim and the groves.
וַיִּֽחַר-אַף יְהוָה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וַֽיִּמְכְּרֵם בְּיַד כּוּשַׁן רִשְׁעָתַיִם מֶלֶךְ אֲרַם נַֽהֲרָיִם וַיַּֽעַבְדוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת-כּוּשַׁן רִשְׁעָתַיִם שְׁמֹנֶה שָׁנִֽים׃
Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushan-rishathaim eight years.
וַיִּזְעֲקוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל-יְהוָה וַיָּקֶם יְהוָה מוֹשִׁיעַ לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיּֽוֹשִׁיעֵם אֵת עָתְנִיאֵל בֶּן-קְנַז אֲחִי כָלֵב הַקָּטֹן מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃
And when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.
וַתִּשְׁקֹט הָאָרֶץ אַרְבָּעִים שָׁנָה וַיָּמָת עָתְנִיאֵל בֶּן-קְנַֽז׃
And the land had rest forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died.
וַיֹּסִפוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לַֽעֲשׂוֹת הָרַע בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה וַיְחַזֵּק יְהוָה אֶת-עֶגְלוֹן מֶֽלֶךְ-מוֹאָב עַל-יִשְׂרָאֵל עַל כִּֽי-עָשׂוּ אֶת-הָרַע בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָֽה׃
And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD.
וַיֶּֽאֱסֹף אֵלָיו אֶת-בְּנֵי עַמּוֹן וַֽעֲמָלֵק וַיֵּלֶךְ וַיַּךְ אֶת-יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּֽירְשׁוּ אֶת-עִיר הַתְּמָרִֽים׃
And he gathered unto him the children of Ammon and Amalek, and went and smote Israel, and possessed the city of palm trees.
וַיַּֽעַבְדוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת-עֶגְלוֹן מֶֽלֶךְ-מוֹאָב שְׁמוֹנֶה עֶשְׂרֵה שָׁנָֽה׃
So the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.
וַיִּזְעֲקוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל-יְהוָה וַיָּקֶם יְהוָה לָהֶם מוֹשִׁיעַ אֶת-אֵהוּד בֶּן-גֵּרָא בֶּן-הַיְמִינִי אִישׁ אִטֵּר יַד-יְמִינוֹ וַיִּשְׁלְחוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּיָדוֹ מִנְחָה לְעֶגְלוֹן מֶלֶךְ מוֹאָֽב׃
But when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised them up a deliverer, Ehud the son of Gera, a Benjamite, a man lefthanded: and by him the children of Israel sent a present unto Eglon the king of Moab.
וַיְהִי בְּבוֹאוֹ וַיִּתְקַע בַּשּׁוֹפָר בְּהַר אֶפְרָיִם וַיֵּֽרְדוּ עִמּוֹ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל מִן-הָהָר וְהוּא לִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃
And it came to pass, when he was come, that he blew a trumpet in the mountain of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mount, and he before them.
וְאַֽחֲרָיו הָיָה שַׁמְגַּר בֶּן-עֲנָת וַיַּךְ אֶת-פְּלִשְׁתִּים שֵֽׁשׁ-מֵאוֹת אִישׁ בְּמַלְמַד הַבָּקָר וַיּוֹשַׁע גַּם-הוּא אֶת-יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, which slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad: and he also delivered Israel.
וַיֹּסִפוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לַֽעֲשׂוֹת הָרַע בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה וְאֵהוּד מֵֽת׃
And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD, when Ehud was dead.
וַיִּצְעֲקוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל-יְהוָה כִּי תְּשַׁע מֵאוֹת רֶֽכֶב-בַּרְזֶל לוֹ וְהוּא לָחַץ אֶת-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּחָזְקָה עֶשְׂרִים שָׁנָֽה׃
And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.
וְהִיא יוֹשֶׁבֶת תַּֽחַת-תֹּמֶר דְּבוֹרָה בֵּין הָֽרָמָה וּבֵין בֵּֽית-אֵל בְּהַר אֶפְרָיִם וַיַּֽעֲלוּ אֵלֶיהָ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לַמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃
And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Beth-el in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.
וַתִּשְׁלַח וַתִּקְרָא לְבָרָק בֶּן-אֲבִינֹעַם מִקֶּדֶשׁ נַפְתָּלִי וַתֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו הֲלֹא צִוָּה׀ יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵךְ וּמָֽשַׁכְתָּ בְּהַר תָּבוֹר וְלָֽקַחְתָּ עִמְּךָ עֲשֶׂרֶת אֲלָפִים אִישׁ מִבְּנֵי נַפְתָּלִי וּמִבְּנֵי זְבֻלֽוּן׃
And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh-naphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the LORD God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?
וְחֶבֶר הַקֵּינִי נִפְרָד מִקַּיִן מִבְּנֵי חֹבָב חֹתֵן מֹשֶׁה וַיֵּט אָֽהֳלוֹ עַד-אֵלוֹן (בצענים) בְּצַעֲנַנִּים אֲשֶׁר אֶת-קֶֽדֶשׁ׃
Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father in law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh.
וַיַּגִּדוּ לְסִֽיסְרָא כִּי עָלָה בָּרָק בֶּן-אֲבִינֹעַם הַר-תָּבֽוֹר׃
And they shewed Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to mount Tabor.
וַיַּכְנַע אֱלֹהִים בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא אֵת יָבִין מֶֽלֶךְ-כְּנָעַן לִפְנֵי בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.
וַתֵּלֶךְ יַד בְּנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל הָלוֹךְ וְקָשָׁה עַל יָבִין מֶֽלֶךְ-כְּנָעַן עַד אֲשֶׁר הִכְרִיתוּ אֵת יָבִין מֶֽלֶךְ-כְּנָֽעַן׃
And the hand of the children of Israel prospered, and prevailed against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.
וַתָּשַׁר דְּבוֹרָה וּבָרָק בֶּן-אֲבִינֹעַם בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא לֵאמֹֽר׃
Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying,
בִּימֵי שַׁמְגַּר בֶּן-עֲנָת בִּימֵי יָעֵל חָֽדְלוּ אֳרָחוֹת וְהֹֽלְכֵי נְתִיבוֹת יֵֽלְכוּ אֳרָחוֹת עֲקַלְקַלּֽוֹת׃
In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were unoccupied, and the travellers walked through byways.
עוּרִי עוּרִי דְּבוֹרָה עוּרִי עוּרִי דַּבְּרִי-שִׁיר קוּם בָּרָק וּֽשֲׁבֵה שֶׁבְיְךָ בֶּן-אֲבִינֹֽעַם׃
Awake, awake, Deborah: awake, awake, utter a song: arise, Barak, and lead thy captivity captive, thou son of Abinoam.
וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל הָרַע בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה וַיִּתְּנֵם יְהוָה בְּיַד-מִדְיָן שֶׁבַע שָׁנִֽים׃
And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.
וַתָּעָז יַד-מִדְיָן עַל-יִשְׂרָאֵל מִפְּנֵי מִדְיָן עָשֽׂוּ לָהֶם׀ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת-הַמִּנְהָרוֹת אֲשֶׁר בֶּֽהָרִים וְאֶת-הַמְּעָרוֹת וְאֶת-הַמְּצָדֽוֹת׃
And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds.
וְהָיָה אִם-זָרַע יִשְׂרָאֵל וְעָלָה מִדְיָן וַֽעֲמָלֵק וּבְנֵי-קֶדֶם וְעָלוּ עָלָֽיו׃
And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them;
וַיִּדַּל יִשְׂרָאֵל מְאֹד מִפְּנֵי מִדְיָן וַיִּזְעֲקוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל-יְהוָֽה׃
And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD.
וַיְהִי כִּֽי-זָעֲקוּ בְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל-יְהוָה עַל אֹדוֹת מִדְיָֽן׃
And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD because of the Midianites,
וַיִּשְׁלַח יְהוָה אִישׁ נָבִיא אֶל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם כֹּֽה-אָמַר יְהוָה׀ אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אָֽנֹכִי הֶֽעֱלֵיתִי אֶתְכֶם מִמִּצְרַיִם וָֽאֹצִיא אֶתְכֶם מִבֵּית עֲבָדִֽים׃
That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;
וַיָּבֹא מַלְאַךְ יְהוָה וַיֵּשֶׁב תַּחַת הָֽאֵלָה אֲשֶׁר בְּעָפְרָה אֲשֶׁר לְיוֹאָשׁ אֲבִי הָֽעֶזְרִי וְגִדְעוֹן בְּנוֹ חֹבֵט חִטִּים בַּגַּת לְהָנִיס מִפְּנֵי מִדְיָֽן׃
And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abi-ezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.
וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ אִישׁ אֶל-רֵעֵהוּ מִי עָשָׂה הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה וַֽיִּדְרְשׁוּ וַיְבַקְשׁוּ וַיֹּאמְרוּ גִּדְעוֹן בֶּן-יוֹאָשׁ עָשָׂה הַדָּבָר הַזֶּֽה׃
And they said one to another, Who hath done this thing? And when they inquired and asked, they said, Gideon the son of Joash hath done this thing.
וַיֹּאמְרוּ אַנְשֵׁי הָעִיר אֶל-יוֹאָשׁ הוֹצֵא אֶת-בִּנְךָ וְיָמֹת כִּי נָתַץ אֶת-מִזְבַּח הַבַּעַל וְכִי כָרַת הָֽאֲשֵׁרָה אֲשֶׁר-עָלָֽיו׃
Then the men of the city said unto Joash, Bring out thy son, that he may die: because he hath cast down the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the grove that was by it.
וְכָל-מִדְיָן וַֽעֲמָלֵק וּבְנֵי-קֶדֶם נֶֽאֶסְפוּ יַחְדָּו וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ וַֽיַּחֲנוּ בְּעֵמֶק יִזְרְעֶֽאל׃
Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east were gathered together, and went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel.
וּמִדְיָן וַֽעֲמָלֵק וְכָל-בְּנֵי-קֶדֶם נֹֽפְלִים בָּעֵמֶק כָּֽאַרְבֶּה לָרֹב וְלִגְמַלֵּיהֶם אֵין מִסְפָּר כַּחוֹל שֶֽׁעַל-שְׂפַת הַיָּם לָרֹֽב׃
And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.
וַיַּעַן רֵעֵהוּ וַיֹּאמֶר אֵין זֹאת בִּלְתִּי אִם-חֶרֶב גִּדְעוֹן בֶּן-יוֹאָשׁ אִישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל נָתַן הָֽאֱלֹהִים בְּיָדוֹ אֶת-מִדְיָן וְאֶת-כָּל-הַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃
And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.
וְזֶבַח וְצַלְמֻנָּע בַּקַּרְקֹר וּמַֽחֲנֵיהֶם עִמָּם כַּֽחֲמֵשֶׁת עָשָׂר אֶלֶף כֹּל הַנּוֹתָרִים מִכֹּל מַֽחֲנֵה בְנֵי-קֶדֶם וְהַנֹּפְלִים מֵאָה וְעֶשְׂרִים אֶלֶף אִישׁ שֹׁלֵֽף חָֽרֶב׃
Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hosts with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that were left of all the hosts of the children of the east: for there fell an hundred and twenty thousand men that drew sword.
וַיָּשָׁב גִּדְעוֹן בֶּן-יוֹאָשׁ מִן-הַמִּלְחָמָה מִֽלְמַעֲלֵה הֶחָֽרֶס׃
And Gideon the son of Joash returned from battle before the sun was up,
וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל-זֶבַח וְאֶל-צַלְמֻנָּע אֵיפֹה הָֽאֲנָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר הֲרַגְתֶּם בְּתָבוֹר וַֽיֹּאמְרוּ כָּמוֹךָ כְמוֹהֶם אֶחָד כְּתֹאַר בְּנֵי הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
Then said he unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom ye slew at Tabor? And they answered, As thou art, so were they; each one resembled the children of a king.
וַיֹּאמַר אַחַי בְּנֵֽי-אִמִּי הֵם חַי-יְהוָה לוּ הַֽחֲיִתֶם אוֹתָם לֹא הָרַגְתִּי אֶתְכֶֽם׃
And he said, They were my brethren, even the sons of my mother: as the LORD liveth, if ye had saved them alive, I would not slay you.
וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ אִֽישׁ-יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל-גִּדְעוֹן מְשָׁל-בָּנוּ גַּם-אַתָּה גַּם-בִּנְךָ גַּם בֶּן-בְּנֶךָ כִּי הֽוֹשַׁעְתָּנוּ מִיַּד מִדְיָֽן׃
Then the men of Israel said unto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son's son also: for thou hast delivered us from the hand of Midian.
