Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.
καταστείλας δὲ ὁ γραμματεὺς τὸν ὄχλον φησίν Ἄνδρες Ἐφέσιοι τίς γάρ ἐστιν ἄνθρωπος ὃς οὐ γινώσκει τὴν Ἐφεσίων πόλιν νεωκόρον οὖσαν τῆς μεγάλης θεᾶς Ἀρτέμιδος καὶ τοῦ διοπετοῦς
And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the which fell down from image Jupiter?
חֹרֶב אֶל-מֵימֶיהָ וְיָבֵשׁוּ כִּי אֶרֶץ פְּסִלִים הִיא וּבָאֵימִים יִתְהֹלָֽלוּ׃
A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: for it is the land of graven images, and they are mad upon their idols.
כֹּה׀ אָמַר יְהוָה אֶל-דֶּרֶךְ הַגּוֹיִם אַל-תִּלְמָדוּ וּמֵאֹתוֹת הַשָּׁמַיִם אַל-תֵּחָתּוּ כִּֽי-יֵחַתּוּ הַגּוֹיִם מֵהֵֽמָּה׃
Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
