Acts 27:31

εἶπεν ὁ Παῦλος τῷ ἑκατοντάρχῃ καὶ τοῖς στρατιώταις Ἐὰν μὴ οὗτοι μείνωσιν ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ ὑμεῖς σωθῆναι οὐ δύνασθε
Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.

And the soldiers' counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and escape.
