וַתָּעַד בָּהֶם לַֽהֲשִׁיבָם אֶל-תּֽוֹרָתֶךָ וְהֵמָּה הֵזִידוּ וְלֹֽא-שָׁמְעוּ לְמִצְוֹתֶיךָ וּבְמִשְׁפָּטֶיךָ חָֽטְאוּ-בָם אֲשֶׁר-יַֽעֲשֶׂה אָדָם וְחָיָה בָהֶם וַיִּתְּנוּ כָתֵף סוֹרֶרֶת וְעָרְפָּם הִקְשׁוּ וְלֹא שָׁמֵֽעוּ׃
And testifiedst against them, that thou mightest bring them again unto thy law: yet they dealt proudly, and hearkened not unto thy commandments, but sinned against thy judgments, (which if a man do, he shall live in them;) and withdrew the shoulder, and hardened their neck, and would not hear.
εἰ γὰρ οἱ ἐκ νόμου κληρονόμοι κεκένωται ἡ πίστις καὶ κατήργηται ἡ ἐπαγγελία·
For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:
וָאֶתֵּן לָהֶם אֶת-חֻקּוֹתַי וְאֶת-מִשְׁפָּטַי הוֹדַעְתִּי אוֹתָם אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשֶׂה אוֹתָם הָאָדָם וָחַי בָּהֶֽם׃
And I gave them my statutes, and shewed them my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them.
διὰ τοῦτο ἐκ πίστεως ἵνα κατὰ χάριν εἰς τὸ εἶναι βεβαίαν τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν παντὶ τῷ σπέρματι οὐ τῷ ἐκ τοῦ νόμου μόνον ἀλλὰ καὶ τῷ ἐκ πίστεως Ἀβραάμ ὅς ἐστιν πατὴρ πάντων ἡμῶν
Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
Καὶ ἰδού νομικός τις ἀνέστη ἐκπειράζων αὐτὸν Καὶ λέγων Διδάσκαλε τί ποιήσας ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσω
And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
τῷ δὲ ἐργαζομένῳ ὁ μισθὸς οὐ λογίζεται κατὰ χάριν ἀλλὰ κατὰ τό ὀφείλημα
Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
Τί οὖν ἐροῦμεν ὅτι ἔθνη τὰ μὴ διώκοντα δικαιοσύνην κατέλαβεν δικαιοσύνην δικαιοσύνην δὲ τὴν ἐκ πίστεως
What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed after not righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.
εἰ δὲ χάριτι οὐκέτι ἐξ ἔργων ἐπεὶ ἡ χάρις οὐκέτι γίνεται χάρις εἰ δὲ ἐξ ἔργων· οὐκέτι ἐστὶν χάρις ἐπεὶ τὸ ἔργον οὐκέτι ἐστίν ἔργον
And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
וַיַּמְרוּ-בִי בֵֽית-יִשְׂרָאֵל בַּמִּדְבָּר בְּחֻקּוֹתַי לֹא-הָלָכוּ וְאֶת-מִשְׁפָּטַי מָאָסוּ אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשֶׂה אֹתָם הָֽאָדָם וָחַי בָּהֶם וְאֶת-שַׁבְּתֹתַי חִלְּלוּ מְאֹד וָאֹמַר לִשְׁפֹּךְ חֲמָתִי עֲלֵיהֶם בַּמִּדְבָּר לְכַלּוֹתָֽם׃
But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they despised my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly polluted: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.
ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Τί με λέγεις ἀγαθόν οὐδεὶς ἀγαθός· εἰ μὴ εἷς ὁ Θεός. εἰ δὲ θέλεις εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν ζωὴν τήρησον τὰς ἐντολάς
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
