  e. לְלֹא without, literally in the condition of no . . . 2Chr 15:3 (compare לְאֵין, also in Chronicles). Elsewhere לא belongs to the following word, Amos 6:13; 2Chr 13:9; Isa 65:1 (twice in verse); Job 26:2; Job 26:3; Job 39:16 (see above 2 d).

Note. — Fifteen times, according to Masora (see DePs 100. 3 FrMM 247 StrProl. Cr. 84), לא is written by error for לוֺ, namely Exod 21:8; Lev 11:21; Lev 25:30; 1Sam 2:3; 2Sam 16:18; 2Kgs 8:10; Isa 9:2; Isa 63:9; Ps 100:3; Ps 139:16; Job 13:15; Job 41:4; Prov 19:7; Prov 26:2; Ezra 4:2 (always with Qr לוֺ). וַיַּרְא יוֹסֵף אֶת-אֶחָיו וַיַּכִּרֵם וַיִּתְנַכֵּר אֲלֵיהֶם וַיְדַבֵּר אִתָּם קָשׁוֹת וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם מֵאַיִן בָּאתֶם וַיֹּאמְרוּ מֵאֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן לִשְׁבָּר-אֹֽכֶל׃

And Joseph saw his brethren, and he knew them, but made himself strange unto them, and spake roughly unto them; and he said unto them, Whence come ye? And they said, From the land of Canaan to buy food.

Job 11:14

אִם-אָוֶן בְּיָדְךָ הַרְחִיקֵהוּ וְאַל-תַּשְׁכֵּן בְּאֹהָלֶיךָ עַוְלָֽה׃

If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.

Job 4:6

הֲלֹא יִרְאָתְךָ כִּסְלָתֶךָ תִּקְוָֽתְךָ וְתֹם דְּרָכֶֽיךָ׃

Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?

Job 11:3

בַּדֶּיךָ מְתִים יַחֲרִישׁו וַתִּלְעַג וְאֵין מַכְלִֽם׃

Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?

Job 8:4

אִם-בָּנֶיךָ חָֽטְאוּ-לוֹ וַֽיְשַׁלְּחֵם בְּיַד-פִּשְׁעָֽם׃

If thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression;

Job 5:3

אֲֽנִי-רָאִיתִי אֱוִיל מַשְׁרִישׁ וָֽאֶקּוֹב נָוֵהוּ פִתְאֹֽם׃

I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

Leviticus 26:26

בְּשִׁבְרִי לָכֶם מַטֵּה-לֶחֶם וְאָפוּ עֶשֶׂר נָשִׁים לַחְמְכֶם בְּתַנּוּר אֶחָד וְהֵשִׁיבוּ לַחְמְכֶם בַּמִּשְׁקָל וַֽאֲכַלְתֶּם וְלֹא תִשְׂבָּֽעוּ׃

And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.
