4. honour, reputation, of character, of man ׳וְלֹאלְֿךָ לְכ 2Chr 26:18 neither will it be for thine honour; || חכמה Eccl 10:1 צדקה Prov 21:21 antith. כְּלִמָּה Ps 4:3 וְחֵקֶר כְּבֹדָם כָּבוֺד Prov 25:27 and searching out of their glory is (not) glory לאישׁ ׳כ Prov 20:3 אֱלֹהִים ׳כ מְלָכִים חֲקֹר דָּבָר ׳הַסְתֵּר דָּבָר וכ Prov 25:2 the honour of God is to conceal a thing, but the honour of kings is to search out a thing.

5. my honour, poetic of the seat of honour in the inner man, the noblest part of man || נפשׁי Gen 49:6 (poem) Ps 7:6 לִבִּי Ps 16:9; Ps 108:2 it is called upon to זמּר Ps 30:13 (read כְּבוֺדִי for כָּבוֺד); עוּרָה Ps 57:9.

6. honour, reverence, glory, as due to one or ascribed to one:

1. splendour, majesty, of king הוֺדְךָ וַהֲדָרֶ֑ךָ Ps 45:4 הוֺד וְהָדָר תְּשַׁוֶּה עָלָיו Ps 21:6, subject ׳י (|| גָּדוֺל כְּבוֺדוֺ בִּישׁוּעָתֶ֑ךָ); foretold of the צֶמַח Zech 6:13 וְהוּאיִֿשָּׂא הוֺד וְיָשַׁב וּמָשַׁל עַלכִּֿסְאוֺ; compare וַיִּתֵּן עָלָיו הוֺד מַלְכוּת 1Chr 29:25 (׳י confers on Solomon); ׳וְלֹא ָ˜נתְנוּ עָלָיו ה מַלְכוּת Dan 11:21 (of usurper); see also וְהוֺי הֹדֹה Jer 22:18 in lament for king. 3. a. splendour of Israel under divine blessing וִיהִי כַזַּיִת הוֺדוֺ Hos 14:7.
  b. majesty, dignity, authority of Moses Num 27:20 (P; only here in Hexateuch) וְנָתַתָּ מֵהוֺדְךָ עָלָיו. Also,
  c. manly vigour לַאֲחֵרִים הוֺדֶ֑ךָ פֶּןתִּֿתֵּן Prov 5:9, in warning against licentiousness; as displayed in outward appearance וְהוֺדִי נֶהְפַּךְ עָלַי לְמַשְׁחִית Dan 10:8 (|| כֹּחַ).

4. of a horse, majesty, majestic force הוֺד נַחְרוֺ אֵימָה Job 39:20 the majesty of his snorting (majestic snorting, VB) is a terror; also in simile of Yahweh's dealings with Judah, וְשָׂם אוֺתָם כְּסוּס הוֺדוֺ בַּמִּלְחָמָה Zech 10:3 and he will make them like the horse of his majesty in battle.

Kings; וְיֶתֶר דִּבְרֵי 2Chr 13:22 + 8 t. 3. matter, affair: דבר אוריה affair of Uriah 1Kgs 15:5 שׁרשׁ דבר root of the matter Job 19:28 מה היה הדבר how went the matter ? 1Sam 4:16; 2Sam 1:4 compare Ruth 3:18 סבב את פני הדבר change the face of the matter 2Sam 14:20 דִּבְרֵי הָאֲתֹנוֺת the matter of the asses 1Sam 10:2 זה דבר הרצח this is the case of the slayer Deut 19:4 לְכָלדְּֿבָרָיו 1Kgs 6:38 as to all its particulars.
