But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
τοὺς δὲ βεβήλους καὶ γραώδεις μύθους παραιτοῦ γύμναζε δὲ σεαυτὸν πρὸς εὐσέβειαν·
But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
μὴ προσέχοντες Ἰουδαϊκοῖς μύθοις καὶ ἐντολαῖς ἀνθρώπων ἀποστρεφομένων τὴν ἀλήθειαν
Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
τὰς δὲ βεβήλους κενοφωνίας περιΐστασο· ἐπὶ πλεῖον γὰρ προκόψουσιν ἀσεβείας
But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
הוֹכֵחַ בְּדָבָר לֹא יִסְכּוֹן וּמִלִּים לֹא-יוֹעִיל בָּֽם׃
Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?
Καθὼς παρεκάλεσά σε προσμεῖναι ἐν Ἐφέσῳ πορευόμενος εἰς Μακεδονίαν ἵνα παραγγείλῃς τισὶν μὴ ἑτεροδιδασκαλεῖν

Περὶ δὲ τῶν εἰδωλοθύτων οἴδαμεν ὅτι πάντες γνῶσιν ἔχομεν ἡ γνῶσις φυσιοῖ ἡ δὲ ἀγάπη οἰκοδομεῖ·
Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
καὶ ἐὰν ἔχω προφητείαν καὶ εἰδῶ τὰ μυστήρια πάντα καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γνῶσιν καὶ ἐὰν ἔχω πᾶσαν τὴν πίστιν ὥστε ὄρη μεθιστάνειν ἀγάπην δὲ μὴ ἔχω οὐθέν εἰμι
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
