Genesis 1

וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים יְהִי אוֹר וַֽיְהִי-אֽוֹר׃

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
וַיַּרְא אֱלֹהִים אֶת-הָאוֹר כִּי-טוֹב וַיַּבְדֵּל אֱלֹהִים בֵּין הָאוֹר וּבֵין הַחֹֽשֶׁךְ׃
4
And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
וַיִּקְרָא אֱלֹהִים׀ לָאוֹר יוֹם וְלַחֹשֶׁךְ קָרָא לָיְלָה וַֽיְהִי-עֶרֶב וַֽיְהִי-בֹקֶר יוֹם אֶחָֽד׃
5
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
וְלִמְשֹׁל בַּיּוֹם וּבַלַּיְלָה וּֽלֲהַבְדִּיל בֵּין הָאוֹר וּבֵין הַחֹשֶׁךְ וַיַּרְא אֱלֹהִים כִּי-טֽוֹב׃
18
And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

Genesis 8

וַיְשַׁלַּח אֶת-הַיּוֹנָה מֵֽאִתּוֹ לִרְאוֹת הֲקַלּוּ הַמַּיִם מֵעַל פְּנֵי הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃

Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground;
וַתָּבֹא אֵלָיו הַיּוֹנָה לְעֵת עֶרֶב וְהִנֵּה עֲלֵה-זַיִת טָרָף בְּפִיהָ וַיֵּדַע נֹחַ כִּי-קַלּוּ הַמַּיִם מֵעַל הָאָֽרֶץ׃
11
And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.
וַיָּרַח יְהוָה אֶת-רֵיחַ הַנִּיחֹחַ וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-לִבּוֹ לֹֽא-אֹסִף לְקַלֵּל עוֹד אֶת-הָֽאֲדָמָה בַּֽעֲבוּר הָֽאָדָם כִּי יֵצֶר לֵב הָֽאָדָם רַע מִנְּעֻרָיו וְלֹֽא-אֹסִף עוֹד לְהַכּוֹת אֶת-כָּל-חַי כַּֽאֲשֶׁר עָשִֽׂיתִי׃
21
And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

Genesis 12

וַאֲבָֽרֲכָה מְבָרְכֶיךָ וּמְקַלֶּלְךָ אָאֹר וְנִבְרְכוּ בְךָ כֹּל מִשְׁפְּחֹת הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Genesis 16

וַיָּבֹא אֶל-הָגָר וַתַּהַר וַתֵּרֶא כִּי הָרָתָה וַתֵּקַל גְּבִרְתָּהּ בְּעֵינֶֽיהָ׃

And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.
וַתֹּאמֶר שָׂרַי אֶל-אַבְרָם חֲמָסִי עָלֶיךָ אָֽנֹכִי נָתַתִּי שִׁפְחָתִי בְּחֵיקֶךָ וַתֵּרֶא כִּי הָרָתָה וָֽאֵקַל בְּעֵינֶיהָ יִשְׁפֹּט יְהוָה בֵּינִי וּבֵינֶֽיׄךָ׃

And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.

Exodus 10

לֹֽא-רָאוּ אִישׁ אֶת-אָחִיו וְלֹא-קָמוּ אִישׁ מִתַּחְתָּיו שְׁלֹשֶׁת יָמִים וּֽלְכָל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הָיָה אוֹר בְּמֽוֹשְׁבֹתָֽם׃
23
They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

Exodus 18

וְשָֽׁפְטוּ אֶת-הָעָם בְּכָל-עֵת וְהָיָה כָּל-הַדָּבָר הַגָּדֹל יָבִיאוּ אֵלֶיךָ וְכָל-הַדָּבָר הַקָּטֹן יִשְׁפְּטוּ-הֵם וְהָקֵל מֵֽעָלֶיךָ וְנָֽשְׂאוּ אִתָּֽךְ׃
22
And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.

Exodus 21

וּמְקַלֵּל אָבִיו וְאִמּוֹ מוֹת יוּמָֽת׃

And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.

Exodus 22

אֱלֹהִים לֹא תְקַלֵּל וְנָשִׂיא בְעַמְּךָ לֹא תָאֹֽר׃
28
Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people.

Leviticus 19

לֹֽא-תְקַלֵּל חֵרֵשׁ וְלִפְנֵי עִוֵּר לֹא תִתֵּן מִכְשֹׁל וְיָרֵאתָ מֵּֽאֱלֹהֶיךָ אֲנִי יְהוָֽה׃
14
Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumblingblock before the blind, but shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD.

Leviticus 20

כִּֽי-אִישׁ אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר יְקַלֵּל אֶת-אָבִיו וְאֶת-אִמּוֹ מוֹת יוּמָת אָבִיו וְאִמּוֹ קִלֵּל דָּמָיו בּֽוֹ׃

For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.

Leviticus 24

וַיִּקֹּב בֶּן-הָֽאִשָּׁה הַיִּשְׂרְאֵלִית אֶת-הַשֵּׁם וַיְקַלֵּל וַיָּבִיאוּ אֹתוֹ אֶל-מֹשֶׁה וְשֵׁם אִמּוֹ שְׁלֹמִית בַּת-דִּבְרִי לְמַטֵּה-דָֽן׃

And the Israelitish woman's son blasphemed the name of the Lord, and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses: (and his mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan:)
הוֹצֵא אֶת-הַֽמְקַלֵּל אֶל-מִחוּץ לַֽמַּחֲנֶה וְסָֽמְכוּ כָֽל-הַשֹּׁמְעִים אֶת-יְדֵיהֶם עַל-רֹאשׁוֹ וְרָֽגְמוּ אֹתוֹ כָּל-הָֽעֵדָֽה׃
14
Bring forth him that hath cursed without the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him.
וְאֶל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל תְּדַבֵּר לֵאמֹר אִישׁ אִישׁ כִּֽי-יְקַלֵּל אֱלֹהָיו וְנָשָׂא חֶטְאֽוֹ׃
15
And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoever curseth his God shall bear his sin.
וַיְדַבֵּר מֹשֶׁה אֶל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיּוֹצִיאוּ אֶת-הַֽמְקַלֵּל אֶל-מִחוּץ לַֽמַּחֲנֶה וַיִּרְגְּמוּ אֹתוֹ אָבֶן וּבְנֵֽי-יִשְׂרָאֵל עָשׂוּ כַּֽאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה אֶת-מֹשֶֽׁה׃
23
And Moses spake to the children of Israel, that they should bring forth him that had cursed out of the camp, and stone him with stones. And the children of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses.

Deuteronomy 23

עַל-דְּבַר אֲשֶׁר לֹֽא-קִדְּמוּ אֶתְכֶם בַּלֶּחֶם וּבַמַּיִם בַּדֶּרֶךְ בְּצֵֽאתְכֶם מִמִּצְרָיִם וַֽאֲשֶׁר שָׂכַר עָלֶיךָ אֶת-בִּלְעָם בֶּן-בְּעוֹר מִפְּתוֹר אֲרַם נַֽהֲרַיִם לְקַֽלְלֶֽךָּ׃
4
Because they met you not with bread and with water in the way, when ye came forth out of Egypt; and because they hired against thee Balaam the son of Beor of Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse thee.

Joshua 24

וַיָּקָם בָּלָק בֶּן-צִפּוֹר מֶלֶךְ מוֹאָב וַיִּלָּחֶם בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּשְׁלַח וַיִּקְרָא לְבִלְעָם בֶּן-בְּעוֹר לְקַלֵּל אֶתְכֶֽם׃

Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you:

Judges 9

וַיֵּֽצְאוּ הַשָּׂדֶה וַֽיִּבְצְרוּ אֶת-כַּרְמֵיהֶם וַֽיִּדְרְכוּ וַֽיַּעֲשׂוּ הִלּוּלִים וַיָּבֹאוּ בֵּית אֱֽלֹהֵיהֶם וַיֹּֽאכְלוּ וַיִּשְׁתּוּ וַֽיְקַלְלוּ אֶת-אֲבִימֶֽלֶךְ׃

And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and trode the grapes, and made merry, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech.

Judges 16

לַֽעַזָּתִים׀ לֵאמֹר בָּא שִׁמְשׁוֹן הֵנָּה וַיָּסֹבּוּ וַיֶּֽאֶרְבוּ-לוֹ כָל-הַלַּיְלָה בְּשַׁעַר הָעִיר וַיִּתְחָֽרְשׁוּ כָל-הַלַּיְלָה לֵאמֹר עַד-אוֹר הַבֹּקֶר וַֽהֲרַגְנֻֽהוּ׃

And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed in, him and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him.

Judges 19

וַתָּבֹא הָֽאִשָּׁה לִפְנוֹת הַבֹּקֶר וַתִּפֹּל פֶּתַח בֵּית-הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר-אֲדוֹנֶיהָ שָּׁם עַד-הָאֽוֹר׃

Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man's house where her lord was, till it was light.

1 Samuel 2

לָכֵן נְאֻם-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אָמוֹר אָמַרְתִּי בֵּֽיתְךָ וּבֵית אָבִיךָ יִתְהַלְּכוּ לְפָנַי עַד-עוֹלָם וְעַתָּה נְאֻם-יְהוָה חָלִילָה לִּי כִּֽי-מְכַבְּדַי אֲכַבֵּד וּבֹזַי יֵקָֽלּוּ׃

Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

1 Samuel 3

וְהִגַּדְתִּי לוֹ כִּֽי-שֹׁפֵט אֲנִי אֶת-בֵּיתוֹ עַד-עוֹלָם בַּֽעֲוֹן אֲשֶׁר-יָדַע כִּֽי-מְקַלְלִים לָהֶם בָּנָיו וְלֹא כִהָה בָּֽם׃

For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.

1 Samuel 6

וַֽעֲשִׂיתֶם צַלְמֵי ‫(עפליכם)‬ טְחֹרֵיכֶם וְצַלְמֵי עַכְבְּרֵיכֶם הַמַּשְׁחִיתִם אֶת-הָאָרֶץ וּנְתַתֶּם לֵֽאלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל כָּבוֹד אוּלַי יָקֵל אֶת-יָדוֹ מֵֽעֲלֵיכֶם וּמֵעַל אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם וּמֵעַל אַרְצְכֶֽם׃

Wherefore ye shall make images of your emerods, and images of your mice that mar the land; and ye shall give glory unto the God of Israel: peradventure he will lighten his hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land.

1 Samuel 14

וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁאוּל נֵֽרְדָה אַֽחֲרֵי פְלִשְׁתִּים׀ לַיְלָה וְֽנָבֹזָה בָהֶם׀ עַד-אוֹר הַבֹּקֶר וְלֹֽא-נַשְׁאֵר בָּהֶם אִישׁ וַיֹּאמְרוּ כָּל-הַטּוֹב בְּעֵינֶיךָ עֲשֵׂה וַיֹּאמֶר הַכֹּהֵן נִקְרְבָה הֲלֹם אֶל-הָֽאֱלֹהִֽים׃

And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever seemeth good unto thee. Then said the priest, Let us draw near hither unto God.

1 Samuel 17

וַיֹּאמֶר הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי אֶל-דָּוִד הֲכֶלֶב אָנֹכִי כִּֽי-אַתָּה בָֽא-אֵלַי בַּמַּקְלוֹת וַיְקַלֵּל הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי אֶת-דָּוִד בֵּֽאלֹהָֽיו׃

And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

וַֽיְדַבְּרוּ עַבְדֵי שָׁאוּל בְּאָזְנֵי דָוִד אֶת-הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִד הַֽנְקַלָּה בְעֵֽינֵיכֶם הִתְחַתֵּן בַּמֶּלֶךְ וְאָֽנֹכִי אִֽישׁ-רָשׁ וְנִקְלֶֽה׃

And Saul's servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king's son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?

1 Samuel 25

וְאוּלָם חַי-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר מְנָעַנִי מֵֽהָרַע אֹתָךְ כִּי׀ לוּלֵי מִהַרְתְּ ‫(ותבאתי)‬ וַתָּבֹאת לִקְרָאתִי כִּי אִם-נוֹתַר לְנָבָל עַד-אוֹר הַבֹּקֶר מַשְׁתִּין בְּקִֽיר׃

For in very deed, as the LORD God of Israel liveth, which hath kept me back from hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left unto Nabal by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.
וַתָּבֹא אֲבִיגַיִל׀ אֶל-נָבָל וְהִנֵּה-לוֹ מִשְׁתֶּה בְּבֵיתוֹ כְּמִשְׁתֵּה הַמֶּלֶךְ וְלֵב נָבָל טוֹב עָלָיו וְהוּא שִׁכֹּר עַד-מְאֹד וְלֹֽא-הִגִּידָה לּוֹ דָּבָר קָטֹן וְגָדוֹל עַד-אוֹר הַבֹּֽקֶר׃

And Abigail came to Nabal; and, behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunken: wherefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light.

2 Samuel 1

שָׁאוּל וִיהֽוֹנָתָן הַנֶּֽאֱהָבִים וְהַנְּעִימִם בְּחַיֵּיהֶם וּבְמוֹתָם לֹא נִפְרָדוּ מִנְּשָׁרִים קַלּוּ מֵֽאֲרָיוֹת גָּבֵֽרוּ׃

Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided: they were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.

2 Samuel 6

וּנְקַלֹּתִי עוֹד מִזֹּאת וְהָיִיתִי שָׁפָל בְּעֵינָי וְעִם-הָֽאֲמָהוֹת אֲשֶׁר אָמַרְתְּ עִמָּם אִכָּבֵֽדָה׃

And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.

2 Samuel 16

וּבָא הַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִד עַד-בַּֽחוּרִים וְהִנֵּה מִשָּׁם אִישׁ יוֹצֵא מִמִּשְׁפַּחַת בֵּית-שָׁאוּל וּשְׁמוֹ שִׁמְעִי בֶן-גֵּרָא יֹצֵא יָצוֹא וּמְקַלֵּֽל׃

And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, thence came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came.
וְכֹֽה-אָמַר שִׁמְעִי בְּקַֽלְלוֹ צֵא צֵא אִישׁ הַדָּמִים וְאִישׁ הַבְּלִיָּֽעַל׃

And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Come out, come out, thou bloody man, and thou man of Belial:
וַיֹּאמֶר אֲבִישַׁי בֶּן-צְרוּיָה אֶל-הַמֶּלֶךְ לָמָּה יְקַלֵּל הַכֶּלֶב הַמֵּת הַזֶּה אֶת-אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ אֶעְבְּרָה-נָּא וְאָסִירָה אֶת-רֹאשֽׁוֹ׃

Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.
וַיֹּאמֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ מַה-לִּי וְלָכֶם בְּנֵי צְרֻיָה ‫(כי)‬ כֹּה יְקַלֵּל ‫(וכי)‬ כִּי יְהוָה אָמַר לוֹ קַלֵּל אֶת-דָּוִד וּמִי יֹאמַר מַדּוּעַ עָשִׂיתָה כֵּֽן׃

And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse, because the LORD hath said unto him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so?
וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִד אֶל-אֲבִישַׁי וְאֶל-כָּל-עֲבָדָיו הִנֵּה בְנִי אֲשֶׁר-יָצָא מִמֵּעַי מְבַקֵּשׁ אֶת-נַפְשִׁי וְאַף כִּֽי-עַתָּה בֶּן-הַיְמִינִי הַנִּחוּ לוֹ וִֽיקַלֵּל כִּי אָֽמַר-לוֹ יְהוָֽה׃

And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it? let him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD hath bidden him.
וַיֵּלֶךְ דָּוִד וַֽאֲנָשָׁיו בַּדָּרֶךְ וְשִׁמְעִי הֹלֵךְ בְּצֵלַע הָהָר לְעֻמָּתוֹ הָלוֹךְ וַיְקַלֵּל וַיְסַקֵּל בָּֽאֲבָנִים לְעֻמָּתוֹ וְעִפַּר בֶּֽעָפָֽר׃

And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill's side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.

2 Samuel 17

וַיָּקָם דָּוִד וְכָל-הָעָם אֲשֶׁר אִתּוֹ וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן עַד-אוֹר הַבֹּקֶר עַד-אַחַד לֹא נֶעְדָּר אֲשֶׁר לֹֽא-עָבַר אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃

Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over Jordan.

2 Samuel 19

וַיַּעַן אֲבִישַׁי בֶּן-צְרוּיָה וַיֹּאמֶר הֲתַחַת זֹאת לֹא יוּמַת שִׁמְעִי כִּי קִלֵּל אֶת-מְשִׁיחַ יְהוָֽה׃

But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD's anointed?
וַיַּעַן אִֽישׁ-יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת-אִישׁ יְהוּדָה וַיֹּאמֶר עֶֽשֶׂר-יָדוֹת לִי בַמֶּלֶךְ וְגַם-בְּדָוִד אֲנִי מִמְּךָ וּמַדּוּעַ הֱקִלֹּתַנִי וְלֹֽא-הָיָה דְבָרִי רִאשׁוֹן לִי לְהָשִׁיב אֶת-מַלְכִּי וַיִּקֶשׁ דְּבַר-אִישׁ יְהוּדָה מִדְּבַר אִישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more right in David than ye: why then did ye despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

2 Samuel 23

וּכְאוֹר בֹּקֶר יִזְרַח-שָׁמֶשׁ בֹּקֶר לֹא עָבוֹת מִנֹּגַהּ מִמָּטָר דֶּשֶׁא מֵאָֽרֶץ׃

And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

1 Kings 2

וְהִנֵּה עִמְּךָ שִֽׁמְעִי בֶן-גֵּרָא בֶן-הַיְמִינִי מִבַּחֻרִים וְהוּא קִֽלְלַנִי קְלָלָה נִמְרֶצֶת בְּיוֹם לֶכְתִּי מַֽחֲנָיִם וְהֽוּא-יָרַד לִקְרָאתִי הַיַּרְדֵּן וָֽאֶשָּׁבַֽע לוֹ בַֽיהוָה לֵאמֹר אִם-אֲמִֽיתְךָ בֶּחָֽרֶב׃

And, behold, thou hast with thee Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite of Bahurim, which cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim: but he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I sware to him by the LORD, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.

1 Kings 12

אָבִיךָ הִקְשָׁה אֶת-עֻלֵּנוּ וְאַתָּה עַתָּה הָקֵל מֵֽעֲבֹדַת אָבִיךָ הַקָּשָׁה וּמֵעֻלּוֹ הַכָּבֵד אֲשֶׁר-נָתַן עָלֵינוּ וְנַֽעַבְדֶֽךָּ׃

Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם מָה אַתֶּם נֽוֹעָצִים וְנָשִׁיב דָּבָר אֶת-הָעָם הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר דִּבְּרוּ אֵלַי לֵאמֹר הָקֵל מִן-הָעֹל אֲשֶׁר-נָתַן אָבִיךָ עָלֵֽינוּ׃

And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?
וַיְדַבְּרוּ אֵלָיו הַיְלָדִים אֲשֶׁר גָּֽדְלוּ אִתּוֹ לֵאמֹר כֹּֽה-תֹאמַר לָעָם הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר דִּבְּרוּ אֵלֶיךָ לֵאמֹר אָבִיךָ הִכְבִּיד אֶת-עֻלֵּנוּ וְאַתָּה הָקֵל מֵֽעָלֵינוּ כֹּה תְּדַבֵּר אֲלֵיהֶם קָֽטָנִּי עָבָה מִמָּתְנֵי אָבִֽי׃

And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.

1 Kings 16

וַֽיְהִי הֲנָקֵל לֶכְתּוֹ בְּחַטֹּאות יָֽרָבְעָם בֶּן-נְבָט וַיִּקַּח אִשָּׁה אֶת-אִיזֶבֶל בַּת-אֶתְבַּעַל מֶלֶךְ צִֽידֹנִים וַיֵּלֶךְ וַֽיַּעֲבֹד אֶת-הַבַּעַל וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ לֽוֹ׃

And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him.

2 Kings 2

וַיִּפֶן אַֽחֲרָיו וַיִּרְאֵם וַֽיְקַלְלֵם בְּשֵׁם יְהוָה וַתֵּצֶאנָה שְׁתַּיִם דֻּבִּים מִן-הַיַּעַר וַתְּבַקַּעְנָה מֵהֶם אַרְבָּעִים וּשְׁנֵי יְלָדִֽים׃

And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

2 Kings 3

וְנָקַל זֹאת בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה וְנָתַן אֶת-מוֹאָב בְּיֶדְכֶֽם׃

And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.

2 Kings 7

וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ אִישׁ אֶל-רֵעֵהוּ לֹא-כֵן׀ אֲנַחְנוּ עֹשִׂים הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה יוֹם-בְּשֹׂרָה הוּא וַֽאֲנַחְנוּ מַחְשִׁים וְחִכִּינוּ עַד-אוֹר הַבֹּקֶר וּמְצָאָנוּ עָווֹן וְעַתָּה לְכוּ וְנָבֹאָה וְנַגִּידָה בֵּית הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king's household.

2 Kings 20

וַיֹּאמֶר יְחִזְקִיָּהוּ נָקֵל לַצֵּל לִנְטוֹת עֶשֶׂר מַֽעֲלוֹת לֹא כִי יָשׁוּב הַצֵּל אֲחֹֽרַנִּית עֶשֶׂר מַֽעֲלֽוֹת׃

And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees.

2 Chronicles 10

אָבִיךָ הִקְשָׁה אֶת-עֻלֵּנוּ וְעַתָּה הָקֵל מֵעֲבוֹדַת אָבִיךָ הַקָּשָׁה וּמֵֽעֻלּוֹ הַכָּבֵד אֲשֶׁר-נָתַן עָלֵינוּ וְנַֽעַבְדֶֽךָּ׃

Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם מָה אַתֶּם נֽוֹעָצִים וְנָשִׁיב דָּבָר אֶת-הָעָם הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר דִּבְּרוּ אֵלַי לֵאמֹר הָקֵל מִן-הָעֹל אֲשֶׁר-נָתַן אָבִיךָ עָלֵֽינוּ׃

Nehemiah 8

וַיִּקְרָא-בוֹ לִפְנֵי הָֽרְחוֹב אֲשֶׁר׀ לִפְנֵי שַֽׁעַר-הַמַּיִם מִן-הָאוֹר עַד-מַֽחֲצִית הַיּוֹם נֶגֶד הָֽאֲנָשִׁים וְהַנָּשִׁים וְהַמְּבִינִים וְאָזְנֵי כָל-הָעָם אֶל-סֵפֶר הַתּוֹרָֽה׃

And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.

Nehemiah 13

כִּי לֹא קִדְּמוּ אֶת-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בַּלֶּחֶם וּבַמָּיִם וַיִּשְׂכֹּר עָלָיו אֶת-בִּלְעָם לְקַֽלְלוֹ וַיַּֽהֲפֹךְ אֱלֹהֵינוּ הַקְּלָלָה לִבְרָכָֽה׃

Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, that he should curse them: howbeit our God turned the curse into a blessing.
וָֽאָרִיב עִמָּם וָאֲקַֽלְלֵם וָֽאַכֶּה מֵהֶם אֲנָשִׁים וָֽאֶמְרְטֵם וָֽאַשְׁבִּיעֵם בֵּֽאלֹהִים אִם-תִּתְּנוּ בְנֹֽתֵיכֶם לִבְנֵיהֶם וְאִם-תִּשְׂאוּ מִבְּנֹתֵיהֶם לִבְנֵיכֶם וְלָכֶֽם׃

And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves.

Job 3

אַֽחֲרֵי-כֵן פָּתַח אִיּוֹב אֶת-פִּיהוּ וַיְקַלֵּל אֶת-יוֹמֽוֹ׃

After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.
יֶחְשְׁכוּ כּֽוֹכְבֵי נִשְׁפּוֹ יְקַו-לְאוֹר וָאַיִן וְאַל-יִרְאֶה בְּעַפְעַפֵּי-שָֽׁחַר׃

Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:
אוֹ כְנֵפֶל טָמוּן לֹא אֶֽהְיֶה כְּעֹֽלְלִים לֹא-רָאוּ אֽוֹר׃

Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light.
לָמָּה יִתֵּן לְעָמֵל אוֹר וְחַיִּים לְמָרֵי נָֽפֶשׁ׃

Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;

יָמַי קַלּוּ מִנִּי-אָרֶג וַיִּכְלוּ בְּאֶפֶס תִּקְוָֽה׃

My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope.

Job 9

וְיָמַי קַלּוּ מִנִּי-רָץ בָּֽרְחוּ לֹא-רָאוּ טוֹבָֽה׃

Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.

Job 12

מְגַלֶּה עֲמֻקוֹת מִנִּי-חֹשֶׁךְ וַיֹּצֵא לָאוֹר צַלְמָֽוֶת׃

He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death.
יְמַֽשְׁשׁוּ-חֹשֶׁךְ וְלֹא-אוֹר וַיַּתְעֵם כַּשִּׁכּֽוֹר׃
25
They grope in the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man.

Job 17

לַיְלָה לְיוֹם יָשִׂימוּ אוֹר קָרוֹב מִפְּנֵי-חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃

They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.

Job 18

גַּם אוֹר רְשָׁעִים יִדְעָךְ וְלֹֽא-יִגַּהּ שְׁבִיב אִשּֽׁוֹ׃

Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.
אוֹר חָשַׁךְ בְּאָהֳלוֹ וְנֵרוֹ עָלָיו יִדְעָֽךְ׃
6
The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.
יֶהְדְּפֻהוּ מֵאוֹר אֶל-חֹשֶׁךְ וּֽמִתֵּבֵל יְנִדֻּֽהוּ׃
18
He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

Job 22

וְֽתִגְזַר-אֹמֶר וְיָקָם לָךְ וְעַל-דְּרָכֶיךָ נָגַֽהּ אֽוֹר׃

Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

Job 24

הֵמָּה׀ הָיוּ בְּֽמֹרְדֵי-אוֹר לֹֽא-הִכִּירוּ דְרָכָיו וְלֹא יָשְׁבוּ בִּנְתִיבֹתָֽיו׃

They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof.
לָאוֹר יָקוּם רוֹצֵחַ יִֽקְטָל-עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹן וּבַלַּיְלָה יְהִי כַגַּנָּֽב׃

The murderer rising with the light killeth the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief.
חָתַר בַּחֹשֶׁךְ בָּתִּים יוֹמָם חִתְּמוּ-לָמוֹ לֹא-יָדְעוּ אֽוֹר׃
16
In the dark they dig through houses, which they had marked for themselves in the daytime: they know not the light.
קַֽל-הוּא׀ עַל-פְּנֵי-מַיִם תְּקֻלַּל חֶלְקָתָם בָּאָרֶץ לֹֽא-יִפְנֶה דֶּרֶךְ כְּרָמִֽים׃

He is swift as the waters; their portion is cursed in the earth: he beholdeth not the way of the vineyards.

Job 25

הֲיֵשׁ מִסְפָּר לִגְדוּדָיו וְעַל-מִי לֹא-יָקוּם אוֹרֵֽהוּ׃

Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom doth not his light arise?

Job 26

חֹֽק-חָג עַל-פְּנֵי-מָיִם עַד-תַּכְלִית אוֹר עִם-חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃
10
He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.

Job 28

מִבְּכִי נְהָרוֹת חִבֵּשׁ וְתַעֲלֻמָהּ יֹצִא אֽוֹר׃
11
He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.

Job 29

בְּהִלּוֹ נֵרוֹ עֲלֵי רֹאשִׁי לְאוֹרוֹ אֵלֶךְ חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃

When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;
אֶשְׂחַק אֲלֵהֶם לֹא יַאֲמִינוּ וְאוֹר פָּנַי לֹא יַפִּילֽוּן׃

If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.

Job 30

כִּי טוֹב קִוִּיתִי וַיָּבֹא רָע וַֽאֲיַחֲלָה לְאוֹר וַיָּבֹא אֹֽפֶל׃

When I looked for good, then evil came unto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkness.

אִם-אֶרְאֶה אוֹר כִּי יָהֵל וְיָרֵחַ יָקָר הֹלֵֽךְ׃

If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;

Job 33

פָּדָה ‫(נפשי)‬ נַפְשׁוֹ מֵעֲבֹר בַּשָּׁחַת ‫(וחיתי)‬ וְחַיָּתוֹ בָּאוֹר תִּרְאֶֽה׃

He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
לְהָשִׁיב נַפְשׁוֹ מִנִּי-שָׁחַת לֵאוֹר בְּאוֹר הַֽחַיִּים׃
30
To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

Job 36

הֵן-פָּרַשׂ עָלָיו אוֹרוֹ וְשָׁרְשֵׁי הַיָּם כִּסָּֽה׃

Behold, he spreadeth his light upon it, and covereth the bottom of the sea.
עַל-כַּפַּיִם כִּסָּה-אוֹר וַיְצַו עָלֶיהָ בְמַפְגִּֽיעַ׃

With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it not to shine by the cloud that cometh betwixt.

Job 37

תַּֽחַת-כָּל-הַשָּׁמַיִם יִשְׁרֵהוּ וְאוֹרוֹ עַל-כַּנְפוֹת הָאָֽרֶץ׃

He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.
אַף-בְּרִי יַטְרִיחַ עָב יָפִיץ עֲנַן אוֹרֽוֹ׃

Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud:
הֲתֵדַע בְּשׂוּם-אֱלוֹהַּ עֲלֵיהֶם וְהוֹפִיעַ אוֹר עֲנָנֽוֹ׃

Dost thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine?
וְעַתָּה׀ לֹא רָאוּ אוֹר בָּהִיר הוּא בַּשְּׁחָקִים וְרוּחַ עָבְרָה וַֽתְּטַהֲרֵֽם׃

And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them.

Job 38

וְיִמָּנַע מֵרְשָׁעִים אוֹרָם וּזְרוֹעַ רָמָה תִּשָּׁבֵֽר׃

And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.
אֵי-זֶה הַדֶּרֶךְ יִשְׁכָּן-אוֹר וְחֹשֶׁךְ אֵי-זֶה מְקֹמֽוֹ׃

Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,
אֵי-זֶה הַדֶּרֶךְ יֵחָלֶק אוֹר יָפֵץ קָדִים עֲלֵי-אָֽרֶץ׃

By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?

הֵן קַלֹּתִי מָה אֲשִׁיבֶךָּ יָדִי שַׂמְתִּי לְמוֹ-פִֽי׃

Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.

Job 41

עֲֽטִישֹׁתָיו תָּהֶל אוֹר וְעֵינָיו כְּעַפְעַפֵּי-שָֽׁחַר׃
18
By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.

Psalms 4

רַבִּים אֹמְרִים מִֽי-יַרְאֵנוּ טוֹב נְֽסָה-עָלֵינוּ אוֹר פָּנֶיךָ יְהוָֽה׃

There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

Psalms 27

יְהוָה׀ אוֹרִי וְיִשְׁעִי מִמִּי אִירָא יְהוָה מָֽעוֹז-חַיַּי מִמִּי אֶפְחָֽד׃

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalms 36

כִּֽי-עִמְּךָ מְקוֹר חַיִּים בְּאוֹרְךָ נִרְאֶה-אֽוֹר׃

For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.
