And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
γίνεσθε δὲ εἰς ἀλλήλους χρηστοί εὔσπλαγχνοι χαριζόμενοι ἑαυτοῖς καθὼς καὶ ὁ θεὸς ἐν Χριστῷ ἐχαρίσατο ὑμῖν
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
φθόνοι φόνοι μέθαι κῶμοι καὶ τὰ ὅμοια τούτοις ἃ προλέγω ὑμῖν καθὼς καὶ προεῖπον ὅτι οἱ τὰ τοιαῦτα πράσσοντες βασιλείαν θεοῦ οὐ κληρονομήσουσιν
Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell before, you as I have also in time past, told you that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
שִׂנְאָה תְּעֹרֵר מְדָנִים וְעַל כָּל-פְּשָׁעִים תְּכַסֶּה אַהֲבָֽה׃
Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
Ἐνδύσασθε οὖν ὡς ἐκλεκτοὶ τοῦ θεοῦ ἅγιοι καὶ ἠγαπημένοι σπλάγχνα οἰκτιρμῶν χρηστότητα ταπεινοφροσύνην πρᾳότητα μακροθυμίαν
Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
ἀγαπητοί εἰ οὕτως ὁ Θεὸς ἠγάπησεν ἡμᾶς καὶ ἡμεῖς ὀφείλομεν ἀλλήλους ἀγαπᾶν
Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
מְֽכַסֶּה-פֶּשַׁע מְבַקֵּשׁ אַהֲבָה וְשֹׁנֶה בְדָבָר מַפְרִיד אַלּֽוּף׃
He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.
εἰ δὲ ζῆλον πικρὸν ἔχετε καὶ ἐριθείαν ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ ὑμῶν μὴ κατακαυχᾶσθε καὶ ψεύδεσθε κατὰ τῆς ἀληθείας
But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
ἐν τούτῳ ἐγνώκαμεν τὴν ἀγάπην ὅτι ἐκεῖνος ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ἔθηκεν· καὶ ἡμεῖς ὀφείλομεν ὑπὲρ τῶν ἀδελφῶν τὰς ψυχὰς τιθέναι
Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
Τὸ δὲ τέλος πάντες ὁμόφρονες συμπαθεῖς φιλάδελφοι εὔσπλαγχνοι φιλόφρονες·
Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
ἐν δὲ τῇ εὐσεβείᾳ τὴν φιλαδελφίαν ἐν δὲ τῇ φιλαδελφίᾳ τὴν ἀγάπην
And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
πλὴν ἀγαπᾶτε τοὺς ἐχθροὺς ὑμῶν καὶ ἀγαθοποιεῖτε καὶ δανείζετε μηδὲν ἀπελπίζοντες· καὶ ἔσται ὁ μισθὸς ὑμῶν πολύς καὶ ἔσεσθε υἱοὶ τοῦ ὑψίστου ὅτι αὐτὸς χρηστός ἐστιν ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀχαρίστους καὶ πονηρούς
But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for again; nothing and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
παρακαλοῦμεν δὲ ὑμᾶς ἀδελφοί νουθετεῖτε τοὺς ἀτάκτους παραμυθεῖσθε τοὺς ὀλιγοψύχους ἀντέχεσθε τῶν ἀσθενῶν μακροθυμεῖτε πρὸς πάντας
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
μετὰ πάσης ταπεινοφροσύνης καὶ πρᾳότητος μετὰ μακροθυμίας ἀνεχόμενοι ἀλλήλων ἐν ἀγάπῃ
With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
ἐν ἁγνότητι ἐν γνώσει ἐν μακροθυμίᾳ ἐν χρηστότητι ἐν πνεύματι ἁγίῳ ἐν ἀγάπῃ ἀνυποκρίτῳ
By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned,
טוֹב אַחֲרִית דָּבָר מֵֽרֵאשִׁיתוֹ טוֹב אֶֽרֶךְ-רוּחַ מִגְּבַהּ-רֽוּחַ׃
Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.
תַּאֲוַת אָדָם חַסְדּוֹ וְטֽוֹב-רָשׁ מֵאִישׁ כָּזָֽב׃
The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
μὴ γινώμεθα κενόδοξοι ἀλλήλους προκαλούμενοι ἀλλήλοις φθονοῦντες
Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
ἐν πάσῃ δυνάμει δυναμούμενοι κατὰ τὸ κράτος τῆς δόξης αὐτοῦ εἰς πᾶσαν ὑπομονὴν καὶ μακροθυμίαν μετὰ χαρᾶς
Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
κήρυξον τὸν λόγον ἐπίστηθι εὐκαίρως ἀκαίρως ἔλεγξον ἐπιτίμησον παρακάλεσον ἐν πάσῃ μακροθυμίᾳ καὶ διδαχῇ
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
