That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִד אֶל-הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי אַתָּה בָּא אֵלַי בְּחֶרֶב וּבַֽחֲנִית וּבְכִידוֹן וְאָֽנֹכִי בָֽא-אֵלֶיךָ בְּשֵׁם יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת אֱלֹהֵי מַֽעַרְכוֹת יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר חֵרַֽפְתָּ׃
Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
ἐπεὶ δοκιμὴν ζητεῖτε τοῦ ἐν ἐμοὶ λαλοῦντος Χριστοῦ ὃς εἰς ὑμᾶς οὐκ ἀσθενεῖ ἀλλὰ δυνατεῖ ἐν ὑμῖν
Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you.
Ταύτην τὴν παραγγελίαν παρατίθεμαί σοι τέκνον Τιμόθεε κατὰ τὰς προαγούσας ἐπὶ σὲ προφητείας ἵνα στρατεύῃ ἐν αὐταῖς τὴν καλὴν στρατείαν
This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by mightest them war a good warfare;
וַיַּעַן וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי לֵאמֹר זֶה דְּבַר-יְהוָה אֶל-זְרֻבָּבֶל לֵאמֹר לֹא בְחַיִל וְלֹא בְכֹחַ כִּי אִם-בְּרוּחִי אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאֽוֹת׃
Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
ἡ νὺξ προέκοψεν ἡ δὲ ἡμέρα ἤγγικεν ἀποθώμεθα οὖν τὰ ἔργα τοῦ σκότους καί ἐνδυσώμεθα τὰ ὅπλα τοῦ φωτός
The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
ἡμεῖς δὲ ἡμέρας ὄντες νήφωμεν ἐνδυσάμενοι θώρακα πίστεως καὶ ἀγάπης καὶ περικεφαλαίαν ἐλπίδα σωτηρίας·
But let us, be who are of the day, sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
Ἔχομεν δὲ τὸν θησαυρὸν τοῦτον ἐν ὀστρακίνοις σκεύεσιν ἵνα ἡ ὑπερβολὴ τῆς δυνάμεως ᾖ τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ μὴ ἐξ ἡμῶν·
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
μηδὲ παριστάνετε τὰ μέλη ὑμῶν ὅπλα ἀδικίας τῇ ἁμαρτίᾳ ἀλλὰ παραστήσατε ἑαυτοὺς τῷ θεῷ ὡς ἐκ νεκρῶν ζῶντας καὶ τὰ μέλη ὑμῶν ὅπλα δικαιοσύνης τῷ θεῷ
Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
מַטֵּֽה-עֻזְּךָ יִשְׁלַח יְהוָה מִצִּיּוֹן רְדֵה בְּקֶרֶב אֹיְבֶֽיךָ׃
The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.
οὐχ ὅτι ἱκανοί ἐσμεν ἀφ' ἑαυτῶν λογίσασθαί τι ὡς ἐξ ἑαυτῶν ἀλλ' ἡ ἱκανότης ἡμῶν ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ
Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
Πίστει τὰ τείχη Ἰεριχὼ ἔπεσεν κυκλωθέντα ἐπὶ ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας
By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
σὺ οὖν κακοπάθησον ὡς καλὸς στρατιώτης Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ
Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
אַל-תִּֽירְאִי תּוֹלַעַת יַֽעֲקֹב מְתֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲנִי עֲזַרְתִּיךְ נְאֻם-יְהוָה וְגֹאֲלֵךְ קְדוֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
וַיָּרַע הָעָם וַֽיִּתְקְעוּ בַּשֹּֽׁפָרוֹת וַיְהִי כִשְׁמֹעַ הָעָם אֶת-קוֹל הַשּׁוֹפָר וַיָּרִיעוּ הָעָם תְּרוּעָה גְדוֹלָה וַתִּפֹּל הַֽחוֹמָה תַּחְתֶּיהָ וַיַּעַל הָעָם הָעִירָה אִישׁ נֶגְדּוֹ וַֽיִּלְכְּדוּ אֶת-הָעִֽיר׃
So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
καὶ ἐπαιδεύθη Μωσῆς πάσῃ σοφίᾳ Αἰγυπτίων ἦν δὲ δυνατὸς ἐν λόγοις καὶ ἐν ἔργοις
And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.
Καὶ τί ἔτι λέγω ἐπιλείψει γὰρ με διηγούμενον ὁ χρόνος περὶ Γεδεών Βαράκ τε καὶ Σαμψών καὶ Ἰεφθάε Δαβίδ τε καὶ Σαμουὴλ καὶ τῶν προφητῶν
