But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.
כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה עַל-שְׁלֹשָׁה פִּשְׁעֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְעַל-אַרְבָּעָה לֹא אֲשִׁיבֶנּוּ עַל-מִכְרָם בַּכֶּסֶף צַדִּיק וְאֶבְיוֹן בַּעֲבוּר נַעֲלָֽיִם׃
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of shoes;
וְשֹׁחַד לֹא תִקָּח כִּי הַשֹּׁחַד יְעַוֵּר פִּקְחִים וִֽיסַלֵּף דִּבְרֵי צַדִּיקִֽים׃
And thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous.
מֶלֶךְ בְּמִשְׁפָּט יַעֲמִיד אָרֶץ וְאִישׁ תְּרוּמוֹת יֶֽהֶרְסֶֽנָּה׃
The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.
κληθέντος δὲ αὐτοῦ ἤρξατο κατηγορεῖν ὁ Τέρτυλλος λέγων Πολλῆς εἰρήνης τυγχάνοντες διὰ σοῦ καὶ κατορθωμάτων γινομένων τῷ ἔθνει τούτῳ διὰ τῆς σῆς προνοίας
And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,
שָׂרַיִךְ סוֹרְרִים וְחַבְרֵי גַּנָּבִים כֻּלּוֹ אֹהֵב שֹׁחַד וְרֹדֵף שַׁלְמֹנִים יָתוֹם לֹא יִשְׁפֹּטוּ וְרִיב אַלְמָנָה לֹֽא-יָבוֹא אֲלֵיהֶֽם׃
Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.
וְהַכְּלָבִים עַזֵּי-נֶפֶשׁ לֹא יָֽדְעוּ שָׂבְעָה וְהֵמָּה רֹעִים לֹא יָדְעוּ הָבִין כֻּלָּם לְדַרְכָּם פָּנוּ אִישׁ לְבִצְעוֹ מִקָּצֵֽהוּ׃
Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.
אַל-תֶּאֱסֹף עִם-חַטָּאִים נַפְשִׁי וְעִם-אַנְשֵׁי דָמִים חַיָּֽי׃
Gather not my soul with sinners, nor my life with bloody men:
עַל-הָרַע כַּפַּיִם לְהֵיטִיב הַשַּׂר שֹׁאֵל וְהַשֹּׁפֵט בַּשִּׁלּוּם וְהַגָּדוֹל דֹּבֵר הַוַּת נַפְשׁוֹ הוּא וַֽיְעַבְּתֽוּהָ׃
That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asketh, and the judge asketh for a reward; and the great man, he uttereth his mischievous desire: so they wrap it up.
הִנְנִי עֲנוּ בִי נֶגֶד יְהוָה וְנֶגֶד מְשִׁיחוֹ אֶת-שׁוֹר׀ מִי לָקַחְתִּי וַֽחֲמוֹר מִי לָקַחְתִּי וְאֶת-מִי עָשַׁקְתִּי אֶת-מִי רַצּוֹתִי וּמִיַּד-מִי לָקַחְתִּי כֹפֶר וְאַעְלִים עֵינַי בּוֹ וְאָשִׁיב לָכֶֽם׃
Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.
καὶ ἐν πλεονεξίᾳ πλαστοῖς λόγοις ὑμᾶς ἐμπορεύσονται οἷς τὸ κρίμα ἔκπαλαι οὐκ ἀργεῖ καὶ ἡ ἀπώλεια αὐτῶν οὐ νυστάζει
And through covetousness shall they with feigned merchandise of words make you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
אֶֽבֶן-חֵן הַשֹּׁחַד בְּעֵינֵי בְעָלָיו אֶֽל-כָּל-אֲשֶׁר יִפְנֶה יַשְׂכִּֽיל׃
A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.
וְיָבוֹאוּ אֵלֶיךָ כִּמְבוֹא-עָם וְיֵשְׁבוּ לְפָנֶיךָ עַמִּי וְשָֽׁמְעוּ אֶת-דְּבָרֶיךָ וְאוֹתָם לֹא יַֽעֲשׂוּ כִּֽי-עֲגָבִים בְּפִיהֶם הֵמָּה עֹשִׂים אַחֲרֵי בִצְעָם לִבָּם הֹלֵֽךְ׃
And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.
וְלֹֽא-הָלְכוּ בָנָיו (בדרכו) בִּדְרָכָיו וַיִּטּוּ אַֽחֲרֵי הַבָּצַע וַיִּקְחוּ-שֹׁחַד וַיַּטּוּ מִשְׁפָּֽט׃
And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
רַבִּים יְחַלּוּ פְנֵֽי-נָדִיב וְכָל-הָרֵעַ לְאִישׁ מַתָּֽן׃
Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
סָר סָבְאָם הַזְנֵה הִזְנוּ אָהֲבוּ הֵבוּ קָלוֹן מָגִנֶּֽיהָ׃
Their drink is sour: they have committed whoredom continually: her rulers with shame do love, Give ye.
כְּנַעַן בְּיָדוֹ מֹאזְנֵי מִרְמָה לַעֲשֹׁק אָהֵֽב׃
He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.
כִּֽי-עֲדַת חָנֵף גַּלְמוּד וְאֵשׁ אָכְלָה אָֽהֳלֵי-שֹֽׁחַד׃
For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.
