Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
Τοῖς πλουσίοις ἐν τῷ νῦν αἰῶνι παράγγελλε μὴ ὑψηλοφρονεῖν μηδὲ ἠλπικέναι ἐπὶ πλούτου ἀδηλότητι ἀλλ' ἐν τῷ θεῷ τῷ ζῶντι τῷ παρέχοντι ἡμῖν πλουσίως πάντα εἰς ἀπόλαυσιν
Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
הַבֹּטְחִים עַל-חֵילָם וּבְרֹב עָשְׁרָם יִתְהַלָּֽלוּ׃
They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
אַל-תִּירָא כִּֽי-יַעֲשִׁר אִישׁ כִּֽי-יִרְבֶּה כְּבוֹד בֵּיתֽוֹ׃
Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
ὁ δὲ ἀκούσας ταῦτα περίλυπος ἐγένετο· ἦν γὰρ πλούσιος σφόδρα
And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
ὑμεῖς δὲ ἠτιμάσατε τὸν πτωχόν οὐχ οἱ πλούσιοι καταδυναστεύουσιν ὑμῶν καὶ αὐτοὶ ἕλκουσιν ὑμᾶς εἰς κριτήρια
But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?
הוֹי הַשַּׁאֲנַנִּים בְּצִיּוֹן וְהַבֹּטְחִים בְּהַר שֹׁמְרוֹן נְקֻבֵי רֵאשִׁית הַגּוֹיִם וּבָאוּ לָהֶם בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!
כִּי מְשׁוּבַת פְּתָיִם תַּֽהַרְגֵם וְשַׁלְוַת כְּסִילִים תְּאַבְּדֵֽם׃
For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
שִׁמְעוּ הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה פָּרוֹת הַבָּשָׁן אֲשֶׁר בְּהַר שֹֽׁמְרוֹן הָעֹשְׁקוֹת דַּלִּים הָרֹצְצוֹת אֶבְיוֹנִים הָאֹמְרֹת לַאֲדֹֽנֵיהֶם הָבִיאָה וְנִשְׁתֶּֽה׃
Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.
מַדּוּעַ רְשָׁעִים יִחְיוּ עָתְקוּ גַּם-גָּבְרוּ חָֽיִל׃
Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power?
Ἄνθρωπος δέ τις ἦν πλούσιος καὶ ἐνεδιδύσκετο πορφύραν καὶ βύσσον εὐφραινόμενος καθ' ἡμέραν λαμπρῶς
There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
כִּֽי-קִנֵּאתִי בַּֽהוֹלְלִים שְׁלוֹם רְשָׁעִים אֶרְאֶֽה׃
For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς Ὁρᾶτε καὶ φυλάσσεσθε ἀπὸ τῆς πλεονεξίας ὅτι οὐκ ἐν τῷ περισσεύειν τινὶ ἡ ζωὴ αὐτοῦ ἐστιν ἐκ τῶν ὑπαρχόντων αὐτοῦ
And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
Καὶ ὅταν προσεύχῃ οὐκ ἔσῃ ὥσπερ οἱ ὑποκριταί ὅτι φιλοῦσιν ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς καὶ ἐν ταῖς γωνίαις τῶν πλατειῶν ἑστῶτες προσεύχεσθαι ὅπως ἂν φανῶσιν τοῖς ἀνθρώποις· ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ἀπέχουσιν τὸν μισθὸν αὐτῶν
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Ὅταν δὲ νηστεύητε μὴ γίνεσθε ὥσπερ οἱ ὑποκριταὶ σκυθρωποί ἀφανίζουσιν γὰρ τὰ πρόσωπα αὐτῶν ὅπως φανῶσιν τοῖς ἀνθρώποις νηστεύοντες· ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ἀπέχουσιν τὸν μισθὸν αὐτῶν
Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
ἀπόδοτε αὐτῇ ὡς καὶ αὐτὴ ἀπέδωκεν ὑμῖν καὶ διπλώσατε αὐτῇ διπλᾶ κατὰ τὰ ἔργα αὐτῆς ἐν τῷ ποτηρίῳ ᾧ ἐκέρασεν κεράσατε αὐτῇ διπλοῦν
Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.
וַאֲנִי אָמַרְתִּי אַךְ-דַּלִּים הֵם נוֹאֲלוּ כִּי לֹא יָדְעוּ דֶּרֶךְ יְהוָה מִשְׁפַּט אֱלֹהֵיהֶֽם׃
Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.
גָּדוֹל יִֽהְיֶה כְּבוֹד הַבַּיִת הַזֶּה הָאַֽחֲרוֹן מִן-הָרִאשׁוֹן אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת וּבַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה אֶתֵּן שָׁלוֹם נְאֻם יְהוָה צְבָאֽוֹת׃
The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.
