Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.
גַּאֲוַת אָדָם תַּשְׁפִּילֶנּוּ וּשְׁפַל-רוּחַ יִתְמֹךְ כָּבֽוֹד׃
A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
עָקֹב הַלֵּב מִכֹּל וְאָנֻשׁ הוּא מִי יֵדָעֶֽנּוּ׃
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
אִישׁ רֵעִים לְהִתְרֹעֵעַ וְיֵשׁ אֹהֵב דָּבֵק מֵאָֽח׃
A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
קְרַב אַתָּה וּֽשֲׁמָע אֵת כָּל-אֲשֶׁר יֹאמַר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ וְאַתְּ׀ תְּדַבֵּר אֵלֵינוּ אֵת כָּל-אֲשֶׁר יְדַבֵּר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ אֵלֶיךָ וְשָׁמַעְנוּ וְעָשִֽׂינוּ׃
Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.
לִפְנֵי-שֶׁבֶר גָּאוֹן וְלִפְנֵי כִשָּׁלוֹן גֹּבַהּ רֽוּחַ׃
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
יָדַעְתִּי יְהוָה כִּי לֹא לָאָדָם דַּרְכּוֹ לֹֽא-לְאִישׁ הֹלֵךְ וְהָכִין אֶֽת-צַעֲדֽוֹ׃
O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
וַיֹּאמֶר חֲזָהאֵל כִּי מָה עַבְדְּךָ הַכֶּלֶב כִּי יַֽעֲשֶׂה הַדָּבָר הַגָּדוֹל הַזֶּה וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלִישָׁע הִרְאַנִי יְהוָה אֹֽתְךָ מֶלֶךְ עַל-אֲרָֽם׃
And Hazael said, But what, is thy servant a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, The LORD hath shewed me that thou shalt be king over Syria.
