The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.

Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not had only broken the sabbath, but said that also God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

ἀπεκρίθησαν αὐτῷ οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι λέγοντες Περὶ καλοῦ ἔργου οὐ λιθάζομέν σε ἀλλὰ περὶ βλασφημίας καὶ ὅτι σὺ ἄνθρωπος ὢν ποιεῖς σεαυτὸν θεόν
The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
