But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
וַיְהִי כִשְׁמֹעַ אַחְאָב אֶת-הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וַיִּקְרַע בְּגָדָיו וַיָּֽשֶׂם-שַׂק עַל-בְּשָׂרוֹ וַיָּצוֹם וַיִּשְׁכַּב בַּשָּׂק וַיְהַלֵּךְ אַֽט׃
And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.
וַיֹּאמֶר חָטָאתִי עַתָּה כַּבְּדֵנִי נָא נֶגֶד זִקְנֵֽי-עַמִּי וְנֶגֶד יִשְׂרָאֵל וְשׁוּב עִמִּי וְהִֽשְׁתַּחֲוֵיתִי לַֽיהוָה אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃
Then he said, I have sinned: yet honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD thy God.
καὶ ἡμεῖς μὲν δικαίως ἄξια γὰρ ὧν ἐπράξαμεν ἀπολαμβάνομεν· οὗτος δὲ οὐδὲν ἄτοπον ἔπραξεν
And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
שָׁמַעְתִּי כְאֵלֶּה רַבּוֹת מְנַחֲמֵי עָמָל כֻּלְּכֶֽם׃
I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.
וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ אִישׁ אֶל-אָחִיו אֲבָל אֲשֵׁמִים׀ אֲנַחְנוּ עַל-אָחִינוּ אֲשֶׁר רָאִינוּ צָרַת נַפְשׁוֹ בְּהִתְחַֽנְנוֹ אֵלֵינוּ וְלֹא שָׁמָעְנוּ עַל-כֵּן בָּאָה אֵלֵינוּ הַצָּרָה הַזֹּֽאת׃
And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.
εἰ δὲ ζήτημά ἐστιν περὶ λόγου καὶ ὀνομάτων καὶ νόμου τοῦ καθ' ὑμᾶς ὄψεσθε αὐτοί· κριτὴς γὰρ ἐγὼ τούτων οὐ βούλομαι εἶναι
But if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters.
וַיֹּאמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל וְלָמָּה תִּשְׁאָלֵנִי וַֽיהוָה סָר מֵֽעָלֶיךָ וַיְהִי עָרֶֽךָ׃
Then said Samuel, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the LORD is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy?
וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁאוּל אֶל-שְׁמוּאֵל חָטָאתִי כִּֽי-עָבַרְתִּי אֶת-פִּֽי-יְהוָה וְאֶת-דְּבָרֶיךָ כִּי יָרֵאתִי אֶת-הָעָם וָֽאֶשְׁמַע בְּקוֹלָֽם׃
And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
וַיִּקְרְאוּ אֶל-יְהוָה וַיֹּאמְרוּ אָנָּה יְהוָה אַל-נָא נֹאבְדָה בְּנֶפֶשׁ הָאִישׁ הַזֶּה וְאַל-תִּתֵּן עָלֵינוּ דָּם נָקִיא כִּֽי-אַתָּה יְהוָה כַּאֲשֶׁר חָפַצְתָּ עָשִֽׂיתָ׃
Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.
וַיְמַהֵר פַּרְעֹה לִקְרֹא לְמֹשֶׁה וּֽלְאַהֲרֹן וַיֹּאמֶר חָטָאתִי לַֽיהוָה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם וְלָכֶֽם׃
Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste; and he said, I have sinned against the LORD your God, and against you.
Οἴδαμεν δὲ ὅτι ὅσα ὁ νόμος λέγει τοῖς ἐν τῷ νόμῳ λαλεῖ ἵνα πᾶν στόμα φραγῇ καὶ ὑπόδικος γένηται πᾶς ὁ κόσμος τῷ θεῷ·
Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them before the who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all world may become guilty God.
וַיִּשְׁלַח פַּרְעֹה וַיִּקְרָא לְמֹשֶׁה וּֽלְאַהֲרֹן וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם חָטָאתִי הַפָּעַם יְהוָה הַצַּדִּיק וַֽאֲנִי וְעַמִּי הָֽרְשָׁעִֽים׃
And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned this time: the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
Ὁ δὲ ἑκατόνταρχος καὶ οἱ μετ' αὐτοῦ τηροῦντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἰδόντες τὸν σεισμὸν καὶ τὰ γενόμενα ἐφοβήθησαν σφόδρα λέγοντες Ἀληθῶς θεοῦ υἱὸς ἦν οὗτος
Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
ὁ δὲ ἡγεμὼν ἔφη Τί γὰρ κακὸν ἐποίησεν οἱ δὲ περισσῶς ἔκραζον λέγοντες Σταυρωθήτω
And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
ἀλλὰ τιμίῳ αἵματι ὡς ἀμνοῦ ἀμώμου καὶ ἀσπίλου Χριστοῦ
But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
Καθημένου δὲ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τοῦ βήματος ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς αὐτὸν ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ λέγουσα Μηδὲν σοὶ καὶ τῷ δικαίῳ ἐκείνῳ· πολλὰ γὰρ ἔπαθον σήμερον κατ' ὄναρ δι' αὐτόν
When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
καὶ μηδεμίαν αἰτίαν θανάτου εὑρόντες ᾐτήσαντο Πιλᾶτον ἀναιρεθῆναι αὐτόν
And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.
ἀπεκρίθησαν αὐτῷ οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι Ἡμεῖς νόμον ἔχομεν· καὶ κατὰ τὸν νόμον ἡμῶν ὀφείλει ἀποθανεῖν ὅτι ἑαυτὸν υἱὸν θεοῦ ἐποίησεν
The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
