μάρτυς γάρ μου ἐστιν ὁ θεός ὡς ἐπιποθῶ πάντας ὑμᾶς ἐν σπλάγχνοις Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ
For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.
χαίρειν μετὰ χαιρόντων καὶ κλαίειν μετὰ κλαιόντων
Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
διὸ αἰτοῦμαι μὴ ἐκκακεῖν ἐν ταῖς θλίψεσίν μου ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν ἥτις ἐστὶν δόξα ὑμῶν
Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.
דְּאָגָה בְלֶב-אִישׁ יַשְׁחֶנָּה וְדָבָר טוֹב יְשַׂמְּחֶֽנָּה׃
Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.
Ὥστε ἀδελφοί μου ἀγαπητοὶ καὶ ἐπιπόθητοι χαρὰ καὶ στέφανός μου οὕτως στήκετε ἐν κυρίῳ ἀγαπητοί
Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.
Δεῦτε πρός με πάντες οἱ κοπιῶντες καὶ πεφορτισμένοι κἀγὼ ἀναπαύσω ὑμᾶς
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
וַתְּכַל דָּוִד הַמֶּלֶךְ לָצֵאת אֶל-אַבְשָׁלוֹם כִּֽי-נִחַם עַל-אַמְנוֹן כִּי-מֵֽת׃
And the soul of king David longed to go forth unto Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.
καὶ παραλαβὼν τὸν Πέτρον καὶ τοὺς δύο υἱοὺς Ζεβεδαίου ἤρξατο λυπεῖσθαι καὶ ἀδημονεῖν
And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
חֶרְפָּה׀ שָֽׁבְרָה לִבִּי וָֽאָנוּשָׁה וָאֲקַוֶּה לָנוּד וָאַיִן וְלַמְנַחֲמִים וְלֹא מָצָֽאתִי׃
Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.
ὅτι λύπη μοί ἐστιν μεγάλη καὶ ἀδιάλειπτος ὀδύνη τῇ καρδίᾳ μου
That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.
Ἀλλήλων τὰ βάρη βαστάζετε καὶ οὕτως ἀναπληρώσατε τὸν νόμον τοῦ Χριστοῦ
Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
καὶ αὐτῶν δεήσει ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν ἐπιποθούντων ὑμᾶς διὰ τὴν ὑπερβάλλουσαν χάριν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐφ' ὑμῖν
And by their prayer for you, which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you.
וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִד אֶל-יְהוָה בִּרְאֹתוֹ׀ אֶֽת-הַמַּלְאָךְ׀ הַמַּכֶּה בָעָם וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֵּה אָֽנֹכִי חָטָאתִי וְאָֽנֹכִי הֶֽעֱוֵיתִי וְאֵלֶּה הַצֹּאן מֶה עָשׂוּ תְּהִי נָא יָֽדְךָ בִּי וּבְבֵית אָבִֽי׃
And David spake unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house.
καὶ εἴτε πάσχει ἓν μέλος συμπάσχει πάντα τὰ μέλη· εἴτε δοξάζεται ἓν μέλος συγχαίρει πάντα τὰ μέλη
And whether one member suffer, all the members with it; suffer or one member be honoured, all the members with it. rejoice
ἐπιποθῶ γὰρ ἰδεῖν ὑμᾶς ἵνα τι μεταδῶ χάρισμα ὑμῖν πνευματικὸν εἰς τὸ στηριχθῆναι ὑμᾶς
For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;
אִם-אָמְרִי אֶשְׁכְּחָה שִׂיחִי אֶעֶזְבָה פָנַי וְאַבְלִֽיגָה׃
If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:
ἀπεκρίθη δὲ ὁ Παῦλος Τί ποιεῖτε κλαίοντες καὶ συνθρύπτοντές μου τὴν καρδίαν ἐγὼ γὰρ οὐ μόνον δεθῆναι ἀλλὰ καὶ ἀποθανεῖν εἰς Ἰερουσαλὴμ ἑτοίμως ἔχω ὑπὲρ τοῦ ὀνόματος τοῦ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ
Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.
