וַיַּֽעֲמֵד אֶת-הַלְוִיִּם בֵּית יְהוָה בִּמְצִלְתַּיִם בִּנְבָלִים וּבְכִנֹּרוֹת בְּמִצְוַת דָּוִיד וְגָד חֹזֵֽה-הַמֶּלֶךְ וְנָתָן הַנָּבִיא כִּי בְיַד-יְהוָה הַמִּצְוָה בְּיַד-נְבִיאָֽיו׃
And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, with psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of Gad the king's seer, and Nathan the prophet: for so was the commandment of the LORD by his prophets.
וַיֵּֽלְכוּ הָֽרָצִים בָּֽאִגְּרוֹת מִיַּד הַמֶּלֶךְ וְשָׂרָיו בְּכָל-יִשְׂרָאֵל וִֽיהוּדָה וּכְמִצְוַת הַמֶּלֶךְ לֵאמֹר בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל שׁוּבוּ אֶל-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי אַבְרָהָם יִצְחָק וְיִשְׂרָאֵל וְיָשֹׁב אֶל-הַפְּלֵיטָה הַנִּשְׁאֶרֶת לָכֶם מִכַּף מַלְכֵי אַשּֽׁוּר׃
So the posts went with the letters from the king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah, and according to the commandment of the king, saying, Ye children of Israel, turn again unto the LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and he will return to the remnant of you, that are escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria.
גַּם בִּֽיהוּדָה הָֽיְתָה יַד הָֽאֱלֹהִים לָתֵת לָהֶם לֵב אֶחָד לַֽעֲשׂוֹת מִצְוַת הַמֶּלֶךְ וְהַשָּׂרִים בִּדְבַר יְהוָֽה׃
Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, by the word of the LORD.
וּבְכָֽל-מַעֲשֶׂה אֲשֶׁר-הֵחֵל׀ בַּֽעֲבוֹדַת בֵּית-הָֽאֱלֹהִים וּבַתּוֹרָה וּבַמִּצְוָה לִדְרֹשׁ לֵֽאלֹהָיו בְּכָל-לְבָבוֹ עָשָׂה וְהִצְלִֽיחַ׃
And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and prospered.
וַיַּֽעֲמֹד הַמֶּלֶךְ עַל-עָמְדוֹ וַיִּכְרֹת אֶֽת-הַבְּרִית לִפְנֵי יְהוָה לָלֶכֶת אַֽחֲרֵי יְהוָה וְלִשְׁמוֹר אֶת-מִצְוֹתָיו וְעֵֽדְוֹתָיו וְחֻקָּיו בְּכָל-לְבָבוֹ וּבְכָל-נַפְשׁוֹ לַֽעֲשׂוֹת אֶת-דִּבְרֵי הַבְּרִית הַכְּתוּבִים עַל-הַסֵּפֶר הַזֶּֽה׃
And the king stood in his place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant which are written in this book.
וַתִּכּוֹן הָֽעֲבוֹדָה וַיַּֽעַמְדוּ הַכֹּֽהֲנִים עַל-עָמְדָם וְהַלְוִיִּם עַל-מַחְלְקוֹתָם כְּמִצְוַת הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
So the service was prepared, and the priests stood in their place, and the Levites in their courses, according to the king's commandment.
וְהַמְשֹֽׁרֲרִים בְּנֵֽי-אָסָף עַל-מַֽעֲמָדָם כְּמִצְוַת דָּוִיד וְאָסָף וְהֵימָן וִֽידֻתוּן חוֹזֵה הַמֶּלֶךְ וְהַשֹּֽׁעֲרִים לְשַׁעַר וָשָׁעַר אֵין לָהֶם לָסוּר מֵעַל עֲבֹֽדָתָם כִּֽי-אֲחֵיהֶם הַלְוִיִּם הֵכִינוּ לָהֶֽם׃
And the singers the sons of Asaph were in their place, according to the commandment of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun the king's seer; and the porters waited at every gate; they might not depart from their service; for their brethren the Levites prepared for them.
וַתִּכּוֹן כָּל-עֲבוֹדַת יְהוָה בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא לַֽעֲשׂוֹת הַפֶּסַח וְהַֽעֲלוֹת עֹלוֹת עַל מִזְבַּח יְהוָה כְּמִצְוַת הַמֶּלֶךְ יֹֽאשִׁיָּֽהוּ׃
So all the service of the LORD was prepared the same day, to keep the passover, and to offer burnt offerings upon the altar of the LORD, according to the commandment of king Josiah.
וְזֶה׀ פַּרְשֶׁגֶן הַֽנִּשְׁתְּוָן אֲשֶׁר נָתַן הַמֶּלֶךְ אַרְתַּחְשַׁסְתְּא לְעֶזְרָא הַכֹּהֵן הַסֹּפֵר סֹפֵר דִּבְרֵי מִצְוֹת-יְהוָה וְחֻקָּיו עַל-יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto Ezra the priest, the scribe, even a scribe of the words of the commandments of the LORD, and of his statutes to Israel.
וְעַתָּה מַה-נֹּאמַר אֱלֹהֵינוּ אַֽחֲרֵי-זֹאת כִּי עָזַבְנוּ מִצְוֹתֶֽיךָ׃
And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments,
הֲנָשׁוּב לְהָפֵר מִצְוֹתֶיךָ וּלְהִתְחַתֵּן בְּעַמֵּי הַתֹּֽעֵבוֹת הָאֵלֶּה הֲלוֹא תֶֽאֱנַף-בָּנוּ עַד-כַּלֵּה לְאֵין שְׁאֵרִית וּפְלֵיטָֽה׃
Should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? wouldest not thou be angry with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no remnant nor escaping?
וְעַתָּה נִֽכְרָת-בְּרִית לֵֽאלֹהֵינוּ לְהוֹצִיא כָל-נָשִׁים וְהַנּוֹלָד מֵהֶם בַּֽעֲצַת אֲדֹנָי וְהַֽחֲרֵדִים בְּמִצְוַת אֱלֹהֵינוּ וְכַתּוֹרָה יֵֽעָשֶֽׂה׃
Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.
וָֽאֹמַר אָֽנָּא יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי הַשָּׁמַיִם הָאֵל הַגָּדוֹל וְהַנּוֹרָא שֹׁמֵר הַבְּרִית וָחֶסֶד לְאֹֽהֲבָיו וּלְשֹֽׁמְרֵי מִצְוֹתָֽיו׃
And said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:
חֲבֹל חָבַלְנוּ לָךְ וְלֹֽא-שָׁמַרְנוּ אֶת-הַמִּצְוֹת וְאֶת-הַֽחֻקִּים וְאֶת-הַמִּשְׁפָּטִים אֲשֶׁר צִוִּיתָ אֶת-מֹשֶׁה עַבְדֶּֽךָ׃
We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.
וְשַׁבְתֶּם אֵלַי וּשְׁמַרְתֶּם מִצְוֹתַי וַֽעֲשִׂיתֶם אֹתָם אִם-יִֽהְיֶה נִֽדַּחֲכֶם בִּקְצֵה הַשָּׁמַיִם מִשָּׁם אֲקַבְּצֵם (והבואתים) וַהֲבִֽיאוֹתִים אֶל-הַמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר בָּחַרְתִּי לְשַׁכֵּן אֶת-שְׁמִי שָֽׁם׃
But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.
וְעַל הַר-סִינַי יָרַדְתָּ וְדַבֵּר עִמָּהֶם מִשָּׁמָיִם וַתִּתֵּן לָהֶם מִשְׁפָּטִים יְשָׁרִים וְתוֹרוֹת אֱמֶת חֻקִּים וּמִצְוֹת טוֹבִֽים׃
Thou camest down also upon mount Sinai, and spakest with them from heaven, and gavest them right judgments, and true laws, good statutes and commandments:
וְאֶת-שַׁבַּת קָדְשְׁךָ הוֹדַעַתָ לָהֶם וּמִצְווֹת וְחֻקִּים וְתוֹרָה צִוִּיתָ לָהֶם בְּיַד מֹשֶׁה עַבְדֶּֽךָ׃
And madest known unto them thy holy sabbath, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses thy servant:
וְהֵם וַֽאֲבֹתֵינוּ הֵזִידוּ וַיַּקְשׁוּ אֶת-עָרְפָּם וְלֹא שָֽׁמְעוּ אֶל-מִצְוֹתֶֽיךָ׃
But they and our fathers dealt proudly, and hardened their necks, and hearkened not to thy commandments,
וַתָּעַד בָּהֶם לַֽהֲשִׁיבָם אֶל-תּֽוֹרָתֶךָ וְהֵמָּה הֵזִידוּ וְלֹֽא-שָׁמְעוּ לְמִצְוֹתֶיךָ וּבְמִשְׁפָּטֶיךָ חָֽטְאוּ-בָם אֲשֶׁר-יַֽעֲשֶׂה אָדָם וְחָיָה בָהֶם וַיִּתְּנוּ כָתֵף סוֹרֶרֶת וְעָרְפָּם הִקְשׁוּ וְלֹא שָׁמֵֽעוּ׃
And testifiedst against them, that thou mightest bring them again unto thy law: yet they dealt proudly, and hearkened not unto thy commandments, but sinned against thy judgments, (which if a man do, he shall live in them;) and withdrew the shoulder, and hardened their neck, and would not hear.
וְאֶת-מְלָכֵינוּ שָׂרֵינוּ כֹּֽהֲנֵינוּ וַֽאֲבֹתֵינוּ לֹא עָשׂוּ תּֽוֹרָתֶךָ וְלֹא הִקְשִׁיבוּ אֶל-מִצְוֹתֶיךָ וּלְעֵדְוֹתֶיךָ אֲשֶׁר הַֽעִידֹתָ בָּהֶֽם׃
Neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept thy law, nor hearkened unto thy commandments and thy testimonies, wherewith thou didst testify against them.
מַֽחֲזִיקִים עַל-אֲחֵיהֶם אַדִּֽירֵיהֶם וּבָאִים בְּאָלָה וּבִשְׁבוּעָה לָלֶכֶת בְּתוֹרַת הָֽאֱלֹהִים אֲשֶׁר נִתְּנָה בְּיַד מֹשֶׁה עֶֽבֶד-הָֽאֱלֹהִים וְלִשְׁמוֹר וְלַֽעֲשׂוֹת אֶת-כָּל-מִצְוֹת יְהוָה אֲדֹנֵינוּ וּמִשְׁפָּטָיו וְחֻקָּֽיו׃
They clave to their brethren, their nobles, and entered into a curse, and into an oath, to walk in God's law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the LORD our Lord, and his judgments and his statutes;
וְהֶֽעֱמַדְנוּ עָלֵינוּ מִצְוֹת לָתֵת עָלֵינוּ שְׁלִשִׁית הַשֶּׁקֶל בַּשָּׁנָה לַֽעֲבֹדַת בֵּית אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃
Also we made ordinances for us, to charge ourselves yearly with the third part of a shekel for the service of the house of our God;
כִּֽי-מִצְוַת הַמֶּלֶךְ עֲלֵיהֶם וַֽאֲמָנָה עַל-הַמְשֹֽׁרְרִים דְּבַר-יוֹם בְּיוֹמֽוֹ׃
For it was the king's commandment concerning them, that a certain portion should be for the singers, due for every day.
וְרָאשֵׁי הַלְוִיִּם חֲשַׁבְיָה שֵֽׁרֵבְיָה וְיֵשׁוּעַ בֶּן-קַדְמִיאֵל וַֽאֲחֵיהֶם לְנֶגְדָּם לְהַלֵּל לְהוֹדוֹת בְּמִצְוַת דָּוִיד אִישׁ-הָֽאֱלֹהִים מִשְׁמָר לְעֻמַּת מִשְׁמָֽר׃
And the chief of the Levites: Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua the son of Kadmiel, with their brethren over against them, to praise and to give thanks, according to the commandment of David the man of God, ward over against ward.
וַֽיִּשְׁמְרוּ מִשְׁמֶרֶת אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶם וּמִשְׁמֶרֶת הַֽטָּהֳרָה וְהַמְשֹֽׁרְרִים וְהַשֹּֽׁעֲרִים כְּמִצְוַת דָּוִיד שְׁלֹמֹה בְנֽוֹ׃
And both the singers and the porters kept the ward of their God, and the ward of the purification, according to the commandment of David, and of Solomon his son.
וַיַּעַשׂ לוֹ לִשְׁכָּה גְדוֹלָה וְשָׁם הָיוּ לְפָנִים נֹֽתְנִים אֶת-הַמִּנְחָה הַלְּבוֹנָה וְהַכֵּלִים וּמַעְשַׂר הַדָּגָן הַתִּירוֹשׁ וְהַיִּצְהָר מִצְוַת הַלְוִיִּם וְהַמְשֹֽׁרְרִים וְהַשֹּׁעֲרִים וּתְרוּמַת הַכֹּֽהֲנִֽים׃
And he had prepared for him a great chamber, where aforetime they laid the meat offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and the oil, which was commanded to be given to the Levites, and the singers, and the porters; and the offerings of the priests.
וַיֹּאמְרוּ עַבְדֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ אֲשֶׁר-בְּשַׁעַר הַמֶּלֶךְ לְמָרְדֳּכָי מַדּוּעַ אַתָּה עוֹבֵר אֵת מִצְוַת הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
Then the king's servants, which were in the king's gate, said unto Mordecai, Why transgressest thou the king's commandment?
מִצְוַת שְׂפָתָיו וְלֹא אָמִישׁ מֵחֻקִּי צָפַנְתִּי אִמְרֵי-פִֽיו׃
Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
פִּקּוּדֵי יְהוָה יְשָׁרִים מְשַׂמְּחֵי-לֵב מִצְוַת יְהוָה בָּרָה מְאִירַת עֵינָֽיִם׃
The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
וְיָשִׂימוּ בֵֽאלֹהִים כִּסְלָם וְלֹא יִשְׁכְּחוּ מַֽעַלְלֵי-אֵל וּמִצְוֹתָיו יִנְצֹֽרוּ׃
That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:
אִם-חֻקֹּתַי יְחַלֵּלוּ וּמִצְוֹתַי לֹא יִשְׁמֹֽרוּ׃
If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;
הַלְלוּ יָהּ׀ אַשְׁרֵי-אִישׁ יָרֵא אֶת-יְהוָה בְּמִצְוֹתָיו חָפֵץ מְאֹֽד׃
Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.
אָז לֹא-אֵבוֹשׁ בְּהַבִּיטִי אֶל-כָּל-מִצְוֹתֶֽיךָ׃
Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments.
בְּכָל-לִבִּי דְרַשְׁתִּיךָ אַל-תַּשְׁגֵּנִי מִמִּצְוֹתֶֽיךָ׃
With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.
גֵּר אָנֹכִי בָאָרֶץ אַל-תַּסְתֵּר מִמֶּנִּי מִצְוֹתֶֽיךָ׃
I am a stranger in the earth: hide not thy commandments from me.
גָּעַרְתָּ זֵדִים אֲרוּרִים הַשֹּׁגִים מִמִּצְוֹתֶֽיךָ׃
Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err from thy commandments.
דֶּֽרֶךְ-מִצְוֹתֶיךָ אָרוּץ כִּי תַרְחִיב לִבִּֽי׃
I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart.
הַדְרִיכֵנִי בִּנְתִיב מִצְוֹתֶיךָ כִּי-בוֹ חָפָֽצְתִּי׃
Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.
וְאֶשְׁתַּֽעֲשַׁע בְּמִצְוֹתֶיךָ אֲשֶׁר אָהָֽבְתִּי׃
And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.
וְאֶשָּֽׂא-כַפַּי אֶֽל-מִצְוֹתֶיךָ אֲשֶׁר אָהָבְתִּי וְאָשִׂיחָה בְחֻקֶּֽיךָ׃
My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes.
חַשְׁתִּי וְלֹא הִתְמַהְמָהְתִּי לִשְׁמֹר מִצְוֹתֶֽיךָ׃
I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments.
טוּב טַעַם וָדַעַת לַמְּדֵנִי כִּי בְמִצְוֹתֶיךָ הֶאֱמָֽנְתִּי׃
Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments.
יָדֶיךָ עָשׂוּנִי וַֽיְכוֹנְנוּנִי הֲבִינֵנִי וְאֶלְמְדָה מִצְוֹתֶֽיךָ׃
Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.
כָּל-מִצְוֹתֶיךָ אֱמוּנָה שֶׁקֶר רְדָפוּנִי עָזְרֵֽנִי׃
All thy commandments are faithful: they persecute me wrongfully; help thou me.
לְֽכָל-תִּכְלָה רָאִיתִי קֵץ רְחָבָה מִצְוָתְךָ מְאֹֽד׃
I have seen an end of all perfection: but thy commandment is exceeding broad.
מֵאֹיְבַי תְּחַכְּמֵנִי מִצְוֹתֶךָ כִּי לְעוֹלָם הִיא-לִֽי׃
Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.
סֽוּרוּ-מִמֶּנִּי מְרֵעִים וְאֶצְּרָה מִצְוֹת אֱלֹהָֽי׃
Depart from me, ye evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my God.
עַל-כֵּן אָהַבְתִּי מִצְוֹתֶיךָ מִזָּהָב וּמִפָּֽז׃
Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold.
פִּֽי-פָעַרְתִּי וָאֶשְׁאָפָה כִּי לְמִצְוֹתֶיךָ יָאָֽבְתִּי׃
I opened my mouth, and panted: for I longed for thy commandments.
צַר-וּמָצוֹק מְצָאוּנִי מִצְוֺתֶיךָ שַׁעֲשֻׁעָֽי׃
Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me: yet thy commandments are my delights.
קָרוֹב אַתָּה יְהוָה וְֽכָל-מִצְוֹתֶיךָ אֱמֶֽת׃
Thou art near, O LORD; and all thy commandments are truth.
שִׂבַּרְתִּי לִֽישׁוּעָתְךָ יְהוָה וּֽמִצְוֹתֶיךָ עָשִֽׂיתִי׃
LORD, I have hoped for thy salvation, and done thy commandments.
תַּעַן לְשׁוֹנִי אִמְרָתֶךָ כִּי כָל-מִצְוֹתֶיךָ צֶּֽדֶק׃
My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness.
תָּעִיתִי כְּשֶׂה אֹבֵד בַּקֵּשׁ עַבְדֶּךָ כִּי מִצְוֹתֶיךָ לֹא שָׁכָֽחְתִּי׃
I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments.
בְּנִי אִם-תִּקַּח אֲמָרָי וּמִצְוֹתַי תִּצְפֹּן אִתָּֽךְ׃
My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
בְּנִי תּוֹרָתִי אַל-תִּשְׁכָּח וּמִצְוֹתַי יִצֹּר לִבֶּֽךָ׃
My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
וַיֹּרֵנִי וַיֹּאמֶר לִי יִֽתְמָךְ-דְּבָרַי לִבֶּךָ שְׁמֹר מִצְוֹתַי וֶֽחְיֵֽה׃
He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.
נְצֹר בְּנִי מִצְוַת אָבִיךָ וְאַל-תִּטֹּשׁ תּוֹרַת אִמֶּֽךָ׃
My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
כִּי נֵר מִצְוָה וְתוֹרָה אוֹר וְדֶרֶךְ חַיִּים תּוֹכְחוֹת מוּסָֽר׃
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
בְּנִי שְׁמֹר אֲמָרָי וּמִצְוֹתַי תִּצְפֹּן אִתָּֽךְ׃
My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
שְׁמֹר מִצְוֹתַי וֶחְיֵה וְתוֹרָתִי כְּאִישׁוֹן עֵינֶֽיךָ׃
Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.
חֲכַם-לֵב יִקַּח מִצְוֹת וֶאֱוִיל שְׂפָתַיִם יִלָּבֵֽט׃
The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.
בָּז לְדָבָר יֵחָבֶל לוֹ וִירֵא מִצְוָה הוּא יְשֻׁלָּֽם׃
Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
שֹׁמֵר מִצְוָה שֹׁמֵר נַפְשׁוֹ בּוֹזֵה דְרָכָיו (יומת) יָמֽוּת׃
He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.
שׁוֹמֵר מִצְוָה לֹא יֵדַע דָּבָר רָע וְעֵת וּמִשְׁפָּט יֵדַע לֵב חָכָֽם׃
Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment.
סוֹף דָּבָר הַכֹּל נִשְׁמָע אֶת-הָאֱלֹהִים יְרָא וְאֶת-מִצְוֹתָיו שְׁמוֹר כִּי-זֶה כָּל-הָאָדָֽם׃
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֲדֹנָי יַעַן כִּי נִגַּשׁ הָעָם הַזֶּה בְּפִיו וּבִשְׂפָתָיו כִּבְּדוּנִי וְלִבּוֹ רִחַק מִמֶּנִּי וַתְּהִי יִרְאָתָם אֹתִי מִצְוַת אֲנָשִׁים מְלֻמָּדָֽה׃
Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
וַֽיַּחֲרִישׁוּ וְלֹֽא-עָנוּ אֹתוֹ דָּבָר כִּֽי-מִצְוַת הַמֶּלֶךְ הִיא לֵאמֹר לֹא תַעֲנֻֽהוּ׃
But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king's commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
לוּא הִקְשַׁבְתָּ לְמִצְוֹתָי וַיְהִי כַנָּהָר שְׁלוֹמֶךָ וְצִדְקָתְךָ כְּגַלֵּי הַיָּֽם׃
O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:
וָאֶקַּח אֶת-סֵפֶר הַמִּקְנָה אֶת-הֶֽחָתוּם הַמִּצְוָה וְהַחֻקִּים וְאֶת-הַגָּלֽוּי׃
So I took the evidence of the purchase, both that which was sealed according to the law and custom, and that which was open:
הוּקַם אֶת-דִּבְרֵי יְהוֹנָדָב בֶּן-רֵכָב אֲשֶׁר-צִוָּה אֶת-בָּנָיו לְבִלְתִּי שְׁתֽוֹת-יַיִן וְלֹא שָׁתוּ עַד-הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה כִּי שָֽׁמְעוּ אֵת מִצְוַת אֲבִיהֶם וְאָנֹכִי דִּבַּרְתִּי אֲלֵיכֶם הַשְׁכֵּם וְדַבֵּר וְלֹא שְׁמַעְתֶּם אֵלָֽי׃
The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed; for unto this day they drink none, but obey their father's commandment: notwithstanding I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye hearkened not unto me.
כִּי הֵקִימוּ בְּנֵי יְהוֹנָדָב בֶּן-רֵכָב אֶת-מִצְוַת אֲבִיהֶם אֲשֶׁר צִוָּם וְהָעָם הַזֶּה לֹא שָׁמְעוּ אֵלָֽי׃
Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father, which he commanded them; but this people hath not hearkened unto me:
וּלְבֵית הָרֵכָבִים אָמַר יִרְמְיָהוּ כֹּֽה-אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל יַעַן אֲשֶׁר שְׁמַעְתֶּם עַל-מִצְוַת יְהוֹנָדָב אֲבִיכֶם וַֽתִּשְׁמְרוּ אֶת-כָּל-מִצְוֹתָיו וַֽתַּעֲשׂוּ כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר-צִוָּה אֶתְכֶֽם׃
And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he hath commanded you:
וָֽאֶתְפַּֽלְלָה לַיהוָה אֱלֹהַי וָאֶתְוַדֶּה וָאֹֽמְרָה אָנָּא אֲדֹנָי הָאֵל הַגָּדוֹל וְהַנּוֹרָא שֹׁמֵר הַבְּרִית וְֽהַחֶסֶד לְאֹהֲבָיו וּלְשֹׁמְרֵי מִצְוֹתָֽיו׃
And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;
חָטָאנוּ וְעָוִינוּ (והרשענו) הִרְשַׁעְנוּ וּמָרָדְנוּ וְסוֹר מִמִּצְוֹתֶךָ וּמִמִּשְׁפָּטֶֽיךָ׃
We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:
וְעַתָּה אֲלֵיכֶם הַמִּצְוָה הַזֹּאת הַכֹּהֲנִֽים׃
And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you.
וִֽידַעְתֶּם כִּי שִׁלַּחְתִּי אֲלֵיכֶם אֵת הַמִּצְוָה הַזֹּאת לִֽהְיוֹת בְּרִיתִי אֶת-לֵוִי אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאֽוֹת׃
And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.
ὃς ἐὰν οὖν λύσῃ μίαν τῶν ἐντολῶν τούτων τῶν ἐλαχίστων καὶ διδάξῃ οὕτως τοὺς ἀνθρώπους ἐλάχιστος κληθήσεται ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τῶν οὐρανῶν· ὃς δ' ἂν ποιήσῃ καὶ διδάξῃ οὗτος μέγας κληθήσεται ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τῶν οὐρανῶν
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Διατί καὶ ὑμεῖς παραβαίνετε τὴν ἐντολὴν τοῦ θεοῦ Διὰ τὴν παράδοσιν ὑμῶν
he But the answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress commandment of God by your tradition?
καὶ οὐ μὴ τιμήσῃ τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ· ἢ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἠκυρώσατε τὴν ἐντολὴν τοῦ θεοῦ διὰ τὴν παράδοσιν ὑμῶν
And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made of none effect the commandment of God by your tradition.
ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Τί με λέγεις ἀγαθόν οὐδεὶς ἀγαθός· εἰ μὴ εἷς ὁ Θεός. εἰ δὲ θέλεις εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν ζωὴν τήρησον τὰς ἐντολάς
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
ἐν ταύταις ταῖς δυσὶν ἐντολαῖς ὅλος ὁ νόμος καὶ οἱ προφῆται κρέμανται
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
ἀφέντες γὰρ τὴν ἐντολὴν τοῦ θεοῦ κρατεῖτε τὴν παράδοσιν τῶν ἀνθρώπων βαπτισμοὺς ξεστῶν καὶ ποτηρίων· καὶ ἀλλὰ παρόμοια τοιαῦτα πολλὰ ποιεῖτε
For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
Καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς Καλῶς ἀθετεῖτε τὴν ἐντολὴν τοῦ θεοῦ ἵνα τὴν παράδοσιν ὑμῶν τηρήσητε
And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Πρὸς τὴν σκληροκαρδίαν ὑμῶν ἔγραψεν ὑμῖν τὴν ἐντολὴν ταύτην
And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.
τὰς ἐντολὰς οἶδας· Μὴ μοιχεύσῃς Μὴ φονεύσῃς Μὴ κλέψῃς Μὴ ψευδομαρτυρήσῃς Μὴ ἀποστερήσῃς Τίμα τὸν πατέρα σου καὶ τὴν μητέρα
Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
Καὶ προσελθὼν εἷς τῶν γραμματέων ἀκούσας αὐτῶν συζητούντων εἰδὼς ὅτι καλῶς αὐτοῖς ἀπεκρίθη ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτόν Ποία ἐστὶν πρώτη πασῶν ἐντολὴ
And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ ὅτι Πρώτη πασῶν τῶν ἐντολῶν Ἄκουε Ἰσραήλ κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν κύριος εἷς ἐστίν
And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
καὶ ἀγαπήσεις κύριον τὸν θεόν σου ἐξ ὅλης τῆς καρδίας σου καὶ ἐξ ὅλης τῆς ψυχῆς σου καὶ ἐξ ὅλης τῆς διανοίας σου καὶ ἐξ ὅλης τῆς ἰσχύος σου αὕτη πρώτη ἐντολή
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
καὶ δευτέρα ὁμοία αὕτη Ἀγαπήσεις τὸν πλησίον σου ὡς σεαυτόν μείζων τούτων ἄλλη ἐντολὴ οὐκ ἔστιν
And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
ἦσαν δὲ δίκαιοι ἀμφότεροι ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ πορευόμενοι ἐν πάσαις ταῖς ἐντολαῖς καὶ δικαιώμασιν τοῦ κυρίου ἄμεμπτοι
And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν τῷ πατρὶ Ἰδού τοσαῦτα ἔτη δουλεύω σοι καὶ οὐδέποτε ἐντολήν σου παρῆλθον καὶ ἐμοὶ οὐδέποτε ἔδωκας ἔριφον ἵνα μετὰ τῶν φίλων μου εὐφρανθῶ·
And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
τὰς ἐντολὰς οἶδας· Μὴ μοιχεύσῃς Μὴ φονεύσῃς Μὴ κλέψῃς Μὴ ψευδομαρτυρήσῃς Τίμα τὸν πατέρα σου καὶ τὴν μητέρα σου

ὑποστρέψασαι δὲ ἡτοίμασαν ἀρώματα καὶ μύρα. Καὶ τὸ μὲν σάββατον ἡσύχασαν κατὰ τὴν ἐντολήν
And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the day sabbath according to the commandment.
οὐδεὶς αἴρει αὐτὴν ἀπ' ἐμοῦ ἀλλ' ἐγὼ τίθημι αὐτὴν ἀπ' ἐμαυτοῦ ἐξουσίαν ἔχω θεῖναι αὐτήν καὶ ἐξουσίαν ἔχω πάλιν λαβεῖν αὐτήν· ταύτην τὴν ἐντολὴν ἔλαβον παρὰ τοῦ πατρός μου
No man taketh it from me, but I lay down it of myself. I have power to lay down, it and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
δεδώκεισαν δὲ καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι ἐντολὴν ἵνα ἐάν τις γνῷ ποῦ ἐστιν μηνύσῃ ὅπως πιάσωσιν αὐτόν
Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.
ὅτι ἐγὼ ἐξ ἐμαυτοῦ οὐκ ἐλάλησα ἀλλ' ὁ πέμψας με πατὴρ αὐτός μοι ἐντολὴν ἔδωκεν τί εἴπω καὶ τί λαλήσω
For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
καὶ οἶδα ὅτι ἡ ἐντολὴ αὐτοῦ ζωὴ αἰώνιός ἐστιν ἃ οὖν λαλῶ ἐγὼ καθὼς εἴρηκέν μοι ὁ πατήρ οὕτως λαλῶ
And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
